Simon's work on the walls is just amazing. Like doing a 5000 piece jigsaw puzzle with no image where every piece is a different shape. The house is looking beautiful already, even without half the roof being on yet.

The hole in the wall, leave it for you cat's to escape or enter, LOL!! Yes, I would have burned the wood too. Make sure the wood is not treated foe veggie garden. Or maybe since it's burned to ash, it's burnt all the treatment off! Sarah and Luke call it black gold, lol! Are yall going to get chickens eventually? Their 💩 makes great fertilizer 😂😂😂! What is ELF's real name? I tried catching it twice. I'll just call her Elf. I've been doing it so long now, it's her endearing nickname. Does she still sale property? Just curious. The property on Terceira is ridiculous what they're asking for compared to what you can get on the Mainland. OK, I'll shut up now. It's nice to see y'all with proper work pants to protect yourself s. So I'm sorry for saying that on the video. However, the ashes are most going to the compost bin instead of the garden as pure ashes isn't that great to be added directly onto the veggies.

I love watching your videos an missed you when you took a break.
I don’t normally hand out advice, But …
I would like to see you get a proper grass cutting lawn mower. Strimming (we call it a whipper snipper in Australia 🙃) it very tine consuming and energy sapping . It’s obvious that Omar is not a fan of the job.
I know it’s more expense, but a lawn mower would go over your yard completely in a couple of hours and probably use the same amount of fuel as the trimmer (not very much).
The only thing you need to do is go over the land and pick up and stray stones.
    I’m loving your progress,
    Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺💕

No problem! Thank you for your comment! I think one of the best things about YT is people giving us advice, so it is always welcomed! 🥰
To be honest, we are looking at getting a small tractor this year because we need to rotavate some of the land as well. A lot of the grass is in big lumps, we also have so much spiky brambles, a tractor will just cruise through it and will take so much less time. The grass is already high! Haha
You get this chains attachments to a tractor and cuts the grass as well.

    • @LorraineinAustralia

Why don't you guys use a mortar mix instead of cement who is the rocks

    • @TheIndigoEscape
      @TheIndigoEscape  Рік тому +3

I think you are referring to Hot Potty or lime mix as mortar is a general word for a binding component which may or not include portland cement. Sometimes people use a mixture of lime and cement which is generally what Portuguese builders use here and works. We have many friends with renovated ruins (going up 20 years) and they are in perfect state or you can just use lime mix, even with a bit of clay for a nice tint.
We are building a cladded wall which doesn't breath, specially if it's surrounded with cement, there is no way water will come through the wall. That's why you build French drains as well. Anything that requires moisture to evaporate through the walls will be pointed. In that room we have two walls like that.
When you have to build ring beams, or lintels then you need to add cement because you need your ring beam to get bonded onto something. You will find most proper stone ruin renovations are doing exactly that, building a ring beam to hold the new roof. If lime is used instead, it eventually gets powdery and will definitely jeoperdise the integrity of the wall.
Just want to add Simon has been in the trade, in Portugal for 12 years. We also have a local Portuguese civil engineer and a 35+ year of experience Portuguese architect involved. This is where we get our trusted information as we are building our home and are not into the " Fixing our mistake" videos because they come at a expense.
I thought we already answer this question to you 4 weeks ago?

  • @LiLBitsDK

    • @TheIndigoEscape
