      That motley at the end of the video… that was an amazing moment for me! It was my last spot after a looong day of coming up empty handed. I was leaving the next day to go out of town for 10 days and I was super bummed to leave without finding something before I left. It was my birthday… that was the best gift I’ve ever received! Haha

Haha It’s by far my best Motley, and probably ever will be. It crazy that they would spend such time making something like that and turn around and misplace it! I bet that guy had some choice words! Haha

    • @Points365
      @Points365  2 роки тому

      Haha it’s all good man! Everyone interprets point types differently. I don’t bother to correct people most of the time, mainly because I’m not that good at identifying them myself! I always wonder why or how they would lose a piece like that?! They obviously put a lot of time into making it. It’s like they laid it down and lost it before ever getting to use it! Bet he was pissed! Haha

    Ole fella that knapped that last one knew how to setup a platform. He also had good muscle memory, struck each time at the same angle and same speed to get the flakes to terminate exactly at mid-ridge. Thats a nicin!

      Thanks man! What I find odd about that piece was where it was found. Most sites I frequent get a reputation.. one site will be known for its abundance of pine trees, another will be known for almost nothing but buck creeks, some known for well made pieces, and some known for almost always being lesser quality pieces. The Motley in this video was found at one of those sites known for its abundance is lesser quality pieces. It about blew me away when that piece came out of the dirt! Haha

That blows my mind! There are places I wish I could dig… like you said though, illegal. Holy moly, ya, umm... So been noticing that some of the finer, aged? Peices seem to be made out of same material. Is this washdown from a earlier place,or a different layered deposit? Basically is this a stratigraphically stable deposit?. Be nice to take a core sample in close proximity!

    • @Points365
      @Points365  3 роки тому

      The majority of the stuff I find comes from across quite a few counties. I don’t have any particular spots that produce a ton. Also, I’d say about 99% of the stuff I find has already been washed out or has been exposed by a landslide. With the exception of a nice grinding stone that will be in my next video coming out tomorrow. I plucked that baby right out of a dirt wall at an early archaic site! But sometimes I can see the layer of dirt from which the artifacts have come. It usually has a well defined and different color to it. What amazes me is that sometimes the layer of ash, flakes, etc is a solid 20’ below surface level. That’s some major deposits going on there! I wish I knew a thing or 2 about taking core samples, and what I’d do after taking them. The more I can learn the better!

      @@Points365 I am on an excellent site no doubt. And I do find a shit ton of stuff. But I walk my ass off and about 70 % of what I find is broke or badly chewed up. But that 30% sure puts a smile on my face. Most people dont realize what we go through to make these videos. They just sit there and watch the show. Then they say there's no way he found that stuff that quickly. I gotta surface hunt for probably around 10 to 14 hrs usually to get enough footage for a 10 minute video. And I walked about 15 miles. I got a pedometer app on my phone.

    Man on your last video I left a comment and you said you found one for the year that was a understatement that thing is killer that flaking ain’t no joke . But all them points are nice . That drill was a smoker I’ve got two long drills with that kind of bottoms and I was at a show last year and a guy a Native American told me he did not believe they were drills he thought they were hair pins or to keep there coats closed up and that made sense. But anyway another great video can’t wait for the next.show your old dog sometimes lol be safe man find a banner stone g/l

      Haha I told ya it was a good’n! Thanks though man. They are all my little pride and joys! That’s an interesting theory on the drills though. Seems like a stick or bone would be lighter and more efficient, but I’m sure they wanted a little flair! Haha I’ve been on a run with the drills lately. I’ve found quite a few of them in the past few weeks, including one that is my longest yet! It’ll be in one of the next 2 videos! I’m still working on finding a complete banner stone. One of these days! Haha and the old dog Rosey.. I don’t know why she insists on hacking every time I start recording!! She’s a trip!😂

      I’m typically the wknd warrior type due to having a job, unlike some people that can somehow hunt all week long!😒 I can only dream of that life! I bet they clean up while I’m slaving away at work, meanwhile im left with these scraps you see here!😂

      Thanks man! I know I’m lucky to live in such a hotspot for artifacts. I try not to take it for granted. We have out fair share of rocky areas, but I just have so much better luck finding the complete pieces where it is nice and silty/sandy as you can imagine! That is one of the neater little drills I’ve found. Kinda looks like a fighter jet! Haha I found a drill about a week ago that’s about 3x longer than this one... I couldn’t believe it was whole! Even in the sandy soil, it’s unusual to find complete drills! But thanks man, that motley at the end is definitely gonna be a contender as my find of the year this year!

      @@Points365 I was going to mention that. Not only the drill but all well made points have that jet profile I'm 60 but I think like a kid and some people are just so serious we have our share of sandy areas our situation is thus where I live in canon city colo was a winter campground for thousands of years this sounds good because if you drop somthing in the snow its lost but a lot of it gets stomped into the mud and then in the spring the grass covers it it still hunts good between the grass the summer camps are about 60 miles north in the high plains near south park everything is volcanic lots of materials but lots of rocks and also lots of buffalo grass so it's still the same hunting gulches runouts and between the grass but we do alright love to see the other drill I'm hoping to put out a video of colo stuff soon not hunting just showing some collections the best thing about where your at is thousands of years of forest and so many levels of occupation good luck to you and thanks for the reply
