  • Hey guys, here's a story on my recent experience with my very upsetting death of my anemone. Please learn from my stupid mistake. Unfortunately it cost me the life of my anemone....
    I know better for next time and I do plan on getting another given my clown hosted fairly quickly with no encouragement from me. Very cool symbiotic relationship these animals have. Please subscribe! Comment with tips or questions or just to say howdy! Thanks for watching.
    Also, I did not document the repercussions of the death of my anemone due to me being very upset.

    You just saved me about 70 bucks man. I just purchased 2 bubble tips. A green and a red. I'm putting them in a biocube....with an additional powerhead...I didn't even think about the powerhead issue. I will definitely take care of covering it immediately. Good thing they dont arrive until Tuesday. Sorry for your loss,but know you've saved my r/gbta's. Thanks again

    Do you cover the back half of the pump... Were the water gets sucked up and in to the power head? Or do you have to cover the entire thing...except for the front of course.

    • @NanoJoe
      @NanoJoe  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah just cover wherever you feel water is being taken in. That’s really the only danger area to the nem.

    Joe - thanks for sharing your not so great experience. You convinced me to get the as-of-yet unused foam sleeves for my MP10 pumps out of the boxes and slip them on today, just before adding my first RBTA. The decision to add one to my reef tank took much deliberation, so I'm hoping that my ocellaris clowns are hosted by it.

      That maroon clown is gonna kill the other clown too, that light doesn't look strong enough for an anemone, and is that tank an all in one with an overflow? if so, you dont need a power filter

    when adding an anemone cut the top half of a soda bottle off, drill some holes in it and take the cap off. fit that over your powerhead. if the anemone should then choose to sit on it, you can just remove it from the bottle and theres no danger of it getting blitz in your powerhead.

    A maroon clown can get 5" and is very territorial and can get very aggressive. Guarantee that your naked clown will be dead in a few months. I'd get rid of the maroon clown. Your tank is too small for a BTA, in my opinion. Your water volume is small and the quality will be making huge swings. That's why they say bigger tanks are easier with saltwater, smaller water quality changes. Also, that BTA was bleached out to begin with, and likely would have been dead soon anyways.

    The key is finding a healthy anemone. Lot of times you buy one from a store they are already dieing. Find an ebay store or fish store that is small to medium that specialise in the hobby. I ordered an rbta from live aquarium it's foot was damaged you can tell they probably just ripped it off the rock and put in a bag sent it.

    That anemone looked really bleached. I wouldn't have bought one that white to begin with since it means they've expelled all their zooxanthelle and would likely slowly waste away no matter how good the tank.

  • @Red-uf4hr
    @Red-uf4hr 7 років тому

    Also man. I don't think you realize how big they actually get. That thing would take up that whole tank full grown and they grow pretty fast. Even then it would kill all the corals in that little tank from exploring. Get the anemone first and wait til it finds its spot. After that I would consider putting in corals once you know your anemone is settled. Even then it's still going to do all kinds of weird things you might not want it to do.

  • @AquariumSavvy
    @AquariumSavvy 4 місяці тому

    I don't mean to put you down by saying this. In my opinion your rookie mistake was to not read enough about anemones to realize that your tank isn't suitable for them. First of all anemones can reach 6.5 feet which means that sooner or later you´d have to upgrade your tank or give away. It pisses me off to see how many ppl buy them out of a whimsical impulse at the market. I guess the one to blame is the seller for not asking the right questions. They just want your money.
    On the other hand, when you add an anemone into the tank you are exposed to several reasons why that anemone will never be happy in your tank but that's another story and a responsibility of the owner.

    🙄 your right this is a rookie mistake and if u been in the saltwater hobby dealing with anemones and still don't know to do then ur still a rookie as well lol if u do any kind of research on keeping them its always one of the main things is to cover powerheads and open intakes before adding a nem they will try all sorts of spots out and almost seem to be curious at times. Its a sad thing and can be avoided if you research enough but with that being said its also still a common mistake new nem owners make. Hopefully even though it was the hard way u still learned its just to bad u didn't learn before hand but hey it happens on the plus side u wasn't to ashamed to admit ur mistake and are trying to spread the word. So for that respect....just prep for the next 1 a little better lol No more nem smoothies 😅

      Well I'm a French-speaking guy and in French it's quite easier to get the sound right because the "e" at the end is mute. Son we say aneMon. But every time I watch an English speaking saltwater tank youtube they say AneNome even when in the title it is written aneMone I wonder why xD

    Dood I've been keeping them for years. Your up against shippers and transitions before it got to you. I've gone through hundreds until some lived. They are crazy hard to find a good one. But when it does they go crazy. You will go through many.
