Knowing what their former analytics director said, shot stopping is still the most important part for them in a GK. That's why they had Oblak as the other option 6 years ago but Alisson was the perfect GK for the style of football they wanted. Mamardashvili is the alternative universe if Oblak had signed for Liverpool and if he could've developed into a sweeper keeper.

    • @zPvQi

Developing a below average distributor into a sweeper keeper might not be as straight forward as that to be fair. It’s like how some players come out at 18 with pausa and others play their whole career without ever getting it.

I don't entirely disagree but a ball-playing GK is essential in a Slot team and I feel like Slot will prioritise his ideas rather than adapt to Liverpool's game model.

And he becomes better it will be in 5 years. Do you want an average keeper for 5 years? I guess with the same logic they bought Nunez. He was good at some things but poor in some important one. His finishing is bad lets be honest and his link up play is also average. But he can improve in following years, the queation is do we have a time to wait. These are really risky transfers imo

@@teovukelic5046 Did the teams he played for or started his youth career with even asked him to play the ball in his feet more? If he started in a team like Barca, then maybe he could've developed those skills earlier. Just because he's not asked to do those things doesn't mean they're bad. His shot stopping skills are already elite. There's still no timetable for when Alisson is gonna leave but there's a good chance GM's gonna be the backup next year with Kelleher likely gone and he'll get the time to develop what the coaches want from him. This is an early succession plan-style.

According to transfermarkt he is the most valuable goalkeeper in the world right now. According to fbref last season his PSXG +/- was 10+ and that meant top3 goalkeeper in the top5 leagues. This video makes me think Kelleher is a better fit for Liverpool. Signing a keeper who isn't suited to a possession-based team is concerning. If the plan is to sell him for a profit after 2 solid seasons on loan then fine. I don't see him suddenly adding slick short passing and sweeping to his game at the age of 23-25. He should already be able to short pass a ball under pressure by now after spending his whole life training and playing football.

    Hi Pythag. Love your work.
I have one criticism, however, not of your UA-cam work, but your website.
I've been reading through your player ratings to gauge how you compare and rate former players and legends with the younger/modern ones.
But when I checked your ratings of Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore, and Jimmy Johnstone, they are all filled with the profile and bio of Denis Law (for some reason) e.g. Law's picture, date of birth, place of birth, and his nicknames.
The ratings appear to be correct. You gave 84 for Charlton and Moore, 81 for Johnstone and when I checked Law's rating, you gave him 79. You think Johnstone was better than Law, by the way?
It would be great if you could sort these pages out because you make some great work with evidence to validate your claims.
    Keep up the good work.
    Thanks.

Also, what do you think of Conor Gallagher's move to Atletico Madrid?
He's been given the number 4 shirt, which would suggest a defensive midfield role, but you've questioned his defensive intelligence in your video about him, and I agree with your assessment.
He is a very capable box-to-box with goals in him and pressing energy for days, but not a DM.
Do you think Simeone's coaching could change that about Gallagher and turn him into DM for club and (possibly) country?

@@FuerstMykisch yes and he’s been quite poor for a while. If you could find a video of all goals conceded by barca last season you’d notice just how many he should have saved, and even some that he didn’t even try to save. He is far from his best nowadays and even his ability to play the ball has regressed greatly and it feels like he’s responsible for a turnover almost every game nowadays.

Liverpool should be fighting Kelleher. This goalkeeper has too much error in his game.

@@edison0462 6'3😂😂 David Raya of Arsenal is the shortest keeper in the league at 6'1 and he is up there with the best modern ball playing keepers.
Gone are the days of judging keeper's height. Football evolved.
You can even see every stats David Raya is number 1 or 2.

@@edison0462yes let's compare a kelleher that on average plays 5 games per season with someone who plays regularly for years. Kelleher played lot of games last year and improved compared to the previous seasons. So that's a promising sign. But buying mamardashvili who is awful with the ball and stays on the line most of the time is ridiculous. It's like buying a winger like adama traore who can go past players but has no end product
