He was extremely lazy, to the point he refused to play for his own country national team, he was entitled and pretentious. He was an as*... This overshadows everything positive about him, football is a way of life for the players and the fans, he wasn't part of it.

    • @rosendyakov533

@@evgenitantikov5865 refusing to play for the national team has nothing to do with being lazy. It's not like he said "naah, I prefer to lay on the couch instead playing for the national team". The reason was that ppl were shitting on him, national football clubs were shitting on him and many of the fans too although he was the best BG player at the time. So as every man that respect himself, he said fine, I won't be joining the national team then. I would say he is many things but not lazy,

    • @Galloglaoch
      @Galloglaoch 2 місяці тому +8

100% correct! He was NOT lazy, he didn't press. Those are different things. Occasionaly he'd track back and win a ball but that was not what he does and when surrounded by players like Rooney, Tevez (workhorses) you'd stick out as lazy. He most definately wasn't, he just didn't want to track or play physicaly. He was an artist with the ball not a workhorse that will go all out to win a ball or to pass a player. Incredible player nonetheless!
Fergie didn't like that he didn't press and work hard for the team (he was notorious for having players give their all for the team. Berba was just not that, although I'm not questioning his loyalty and commitment to his teams). He was objectively wrong to leave him out of the CL final. Sometimes this just happens.
And he most definately didn't stop playing for the national team because he was lazy. That's bullshit. He was blamed for every misshap in that corruption riddent team so he just called it quits (probably under guidence from Fergie who was also notorious for asking his players to quit their national sides as they were growing older so they can focus on Manchester United).

I'll never forgive Ferguson for what he did to that man's career.
Imagine right now Atletico Madrid wants to sign Cole Palmer and as he lands in Madrid, Ancelotti comes out and tells him "You're going to be a star at Real Madrid, come play for us instead". Palmer takes the offer, only to get benched for 2 years, and when he finally gets his spot in the team, Ancelotti says "You've been amazing this season, Cole. So I won't bench you for the final of the UCL. Because you'll be watching it from your couch", only to then ship him off to Real Betis.
Sounds unthinkable, but it's exactly what Fergie did to Berba.

Lack of sprint and less aggressive moves than the strikers he was playing along like Rooney, Tevez, etc. makes him look lazy but the fact that he always run for 10-11 kilometers each match, seeking space and creating chances. He wasn't lazy, football has changed for the worse. When he came up football was more about skill and flair. There is more focus on athletics now, thats why you have players who run around but cant beat a man one on one. Zidane did not sprint around the pitch, neither did Riquelme, Bergkamp etc.

He wasn’t lazy, it just looked it because he had a languid style. Sure he didn’t press like crazy as Tevez or Rooney did, but he always made himself available for the ball and ran into the channels when needed. You can’t be lazy if your game was like Berbatov - sometimes he dropped team to be a 10, sometimes he pinned the centre-back as a target man, sometimes he played on the shoulder to get on the end of through balls, sometimes he’d get on the end of crosses and other times he waited outside the box for a cut-back. Just because he made it look easy it doesn’t mean he’s lazy. Technically gifted guys like Pogba and Pirlo always get this accusation too. It seems like they’re not trying because it’s easy for them.

It's not true that Berbatov left his Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia because of the kidnapping.
One of the reasons was that his club had financial problems and needed money.
The other reason was a terrible game for him vs Levski Sofia, the rivals of CSKA Sofia. He missed few very good chances to score, CSKA lost the game, and the fans attacked him after the end of the match, blaming him for the defeat. He was just 18 years old at that time. The fans didn't love him, and he had to leave the club.
What is interesting, after few years when he became famous and a big star, the same fans wanted autographs from him, hoping that he forgot how they treated him...
And another thing: he was never close to sign for Manchester City, he didn't want to hear about them. He had only Manchester United in his mind, everything else were rumors.

  • @PredatorSoulfly
    @PredatorSoulfly 2 місяці тому +5

A few errors in this vid.
United were in the bidding war for Berbatov and he was heading to OT when City made a last minute bid.
Berba's agent informed him about this but he had already set his mind on United.
Fergie meeting him at the airport was just a bonus.
SAF made the comparison to Cantona on his signing.
Also Berbatov was never really seen as lazy outside of playing for United because he was compared to Rooney & Tevez who had the habit of running around aimlessly.

OMG This guy sound like (in the NHL) Patrick Kane and Alex Oveckin. Unbelievable goal scorers but often you would see them just standing and waiting for the puck.

Imagine thinking Berbatov was lazy and he was one of the best in the best team in word then....
If he was lazy you wasnt going to speak for him now. One of the greatest football geniuses in the world no doubt.

Great Video! I didn't expect that, judgging by the title.. I'm Bulgarian and I know a lot about him. Here is my take. Might be interesting for his fans who aren't Bulgarians or just anyone who loves the sport. :)
    1. The historical bit is 100% correct. And one thing that perhaps wasn't clear enough - Georgi Iliev was "the" boss at the time. One of many, but considered to be the "strongest" one with the furthest reach both in political sphere and on the streets.
    - Including everything said about the mafia bosses and this particular story. Berba has told this story many times and as far as I know no one has denied that this happened. And to put things in perspective - this is not an unusual thing, by the 90s "standards" for a post-communist country on its path to fixing what's broken and hoping to build a democrasy, while dealing with the anarchy on the streets.
    2. The title is somewhat misleading and unbefitting Berbatov's achievements, even if we all know the reason for "shocker titles" nowadays...
    - I understand the need of an attention-grabbing title, but lazy and Berbatov simply do not make sense, being put in the same universe. The game is not played solely on the pitch. It's played in players' heads too. And he was brilliant precisely, because he was one of the smartest people to step foot on the football pitch. And if you remember the attack that he started, help progress, send a world-class pass forward and finally finished by scoring a crazy goal was something, that even to this day, we have only seen half a dozen people do IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY of modern football. So his lower pace at times, didn't mean laziness, it meant waiting for the right moment and picking the times when you put in 110% and those that you need to wait and remain calm and collected and patiently wait for your moment. With strikers your usefulness is not measured by the times you sprinted, the times you touched the ball in the opposite box, nor anything else like that. It is measured by your output of goals and assists. And he was king there! :)
    - Additionally, there is a huge oxymoron between the truth and the title... Berba's magical touch, incredible vision and understanding of the game are not a product of laziness or just talent, but a result of years and years of him honing his craft, while his peers were playing games, partying, enjoying a true lazy lifestyle... He didn't get to have much of that, because he was working hard consistently, even after he became a professional, even after he got out of Bulgaria and joined Bayer, even after he moved to the UK and even after joining Man United (at the time in top3 teams in the world)!!! So I understand trying to craft the retention-magnet-title, but the word lazy is insulting in association with Berbatov.
    3. That champion's league match...
    - Try to imagine being on top of the world after having a mesmerizing season to be left out of the team, not even being left as a substitute... Which btw would've also been very disrespectful and plainly absurd... No one can explain why sir Alex did this. As you heard (Berba confirmed) later on sir Alex did apologize, but I mean... He cut one of the top players of the season 's wings and deprived him of his dream trophy and made the dreamy retirement a mirage! That's heartbreaking... Not to mention the fact, that probably was not considered enough, but being Berbatov in this match he would have done everything possible and would've played out of his mind, having a much greater motivation than everyone else, as he was on the verge of ending his career (at least on that super high level) and also this was his absolute dream! This was really heartbreaking and everyone home were so pissed at sir Alex for doing. Also very shocked and in awe when the news that he has been left out of the team aired on live tv..
An amazing story nonetheless. About an incredible man who started from nothing and became a legend! Not just for Bulgarians, but for all football fans who had the priviledge to watch him during these times. I was a kid (10ish) when he moved to United. I am telling you every kid back home had his jersey on! Every single kid!!! For my generation and people after he is the greatest as we weren't born when Stoichkov did his Barcelona run prior and was part of the dream team in '94.
A huge applause for Berbatov and may we have some at least 50% as great as him in the upcoming years!
    Respect!
Thanks for reading this, if you made it this far.

Well only an idiot can call Berba lazy. And he proved I'm right scoring a goal passing the whole length of the stadium having the major role in the defense, passing for the Nani assistance and scoring the goal. Yes he was smart and he didn't go for the ball if he didn't see the opportunity. There is no point just to run on the field, you should be smart find a proper position, see the opportunity and take it with finesse. And the finesse he has (because he still has it) requires a lot of work, so calling him lazy is just simple stupidity.
