Josh Scogin = one of the best hardcore vocalist in history. He sounds really tired in this video but go listen to Norma Jean's first album. One of the greatest hardcore albums ever. It flipped the scene when it came out. Not to mention how much Josh has done for the scene in general. Constantly pushing the boundaries and pushing forward. I remember when the breakdown at 2:35 first hit. People couldn't believe it. Even now people lose it over this song. Oh and the top comment is spot on.
you realize norma jean just ripped off botch and coalesce by now, 9 yrs later, right? they didn't push any boundaries at all. sound familiar? ua-cam.com/video/brqZ6jZiOFE/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/E947SrMfza0/v-deo.html
@@brettpanzer What? They sound quite different. Norma Is much heavier. They were definitely influenced, but I wouldn't say copycats. I'd say more, but I haven't listened to too much Botch and Coalesce. However, what I'm guessing based off of what I have heard and what you sent. Norma leaned more into a ""more relaxed"" sound, (in heavy quotations), in their later albums, except for maybe their second (?) to last album. If they don't do enough for you to be different, then that's one thing, but I would *STRONGLY* disagree.
I couldn't find the album anywhere in my town. so i got it at Amazon, finally listened to the whole thing. Holy shit, best album I've purchased in a long time. and from such a long time ago. I remember being very young passing through a music video like this on MTV or something and not getting it. Growing up has opened my eyes to this.
I've watched this video like a million times over the years and only just realised they are on a stage. With that backdrop I always thought it looked like they were playing on the floor in the middle of a warehouse :-/
Can't believe this is 13 years old. I remember listening to them in 2005' and I didnt appreciate how great it was. They were right there with Killswitch when the metalcore scene was blossuming in the early 2000s
We just posted a live video of this song from their most recent tour. Check it out if you'd like. On a side note, I haven't watched this video in years and it's pretty amazing.
Very good :) I still really like it, maybe more even though his voice is 'blown out' ^ and sometimes he sounded like Daniel Johnston lol who is amazing also and is the guy at the end, is that Scogin? He completes it much
Yep. It was rough before that, but he just killed it. In fairness, this was a fairly new song for them and it was *not* a cool day (outside in Birmingham, AL in August 😂).
Nah man, Norma Jean is still making great music. I'd contend that they're far better now than on BTMKTC, however I also feel like scrogs leaving was for the best, because I absolutely love the chariot.
This is one of my FAVORITE songs of all time, but this was a terrible rendition of it. If this was my first time hearing Norma Jean, I would have never listened to this garbage again. It pains me to say this because I love Norma Jean (and The Chariot) but Josh Scogan ruined this. He matured (live) with The Chariot and KILLED later on. But this is awful. The guy at the end saved it. He gave it his all.
James Moore I remember hearing this performance was right before josh left the Norma jean and he was supposedly drunk. Idk if true. There's many factors to why this isn't a great performance lol
They are terrible live :D I love their recordings, such complex arrangements but their performance is not even tight and the vocalist fucks up his whole vocal line :D
This was so early on! I've seen far bigger more successful bands sound far worse! They were so broke when they recorded BTMKTC they only had money to record it one time throw ! And to this date it still holds the distinction of being the only album recorded produced and composed One time through! To put that into perspective in the Digital Recording age! These are damn good! Professionals from early on! And it speaks volumes in terms of there careers!
+sambetr what sort of made up fucking fact was that? You think BTMKTC is was recorded and produced in a single run? Hahahahaha OMFG. And you think it is the only one to have ever been done that way?!?!? The delusion is real. You cant "produce" an album in a single pass, it doesnt work like that. This was mix and mastered, dont be a fucking idiot.

I couldn't find the album anywhere in my town. so i got it at Amazon, finally listened to the whole thing. Holy shit, best album I've purchased in a long time. and from such a long time ago. Still one of the best hardcore albums I've heard
Listen to the album under the name Luda-Kriss same group of guys. It really put the times and influence these guys had in the mid 90s into perspective
Hands down, one of the best songs I have ever heard
I love how Josh has to walk around doing hardcore-y moves with his hands while he's just talking to the audience. I miss this era dearly.
2:12 - "My dog, yeah!"
fightfairfightfair 😂😂😂
they nailed the ending
4:45 if this doesn’t do anything for you, check your pulse. Legendary.
Bruh this still one of my favorite bands for breakdowns and aaron Weiss kills the poem at the end
What an amazing festival. So glad my friends and I made the trip from IL. By far my fav old NJ song. So privileged that I could be there for this.

Never liked mewithoutyou but damn this verse always gave me chills still to this day.
All those fuckers sitting on the stage I guarantee they were sweating just from the energy these guys put out in this! So much energy
How can you just stand there like that?! That was fucking intense omg

Read your comment before I saw it, then as it was happening in the video I started crying because I was laughing so hard lol.
They are the best

GODDAMN THEY TORE THAT SHIT UP AT THE END!
i like how the guy at 5:02 is walking away from the show if i was there id be going crazy NORMA JEAN RULES
I've watched this video like a million times over the years and only just realised they are on a stage. With that backdrop I always thought it looked like they were playing on the floor in the middle of a warehouse :-/

You gonna be there in 2021??

Can't believe this is 13 years old. I remember listening to them in 2005' and I didnt appreciate how great it was. They were right there with Killswitch when the metalcore scene was blossuming in the early 2000s

A seminal moment in Hardcore history, and they didn’t even know it
Damn was this really 2002? I was hella into this song like 2006/7
4:30
First live performance i saw of Norma jean josh scogin is so beast on stage
Holy fuck this was almost 20 years ago
It sounds like they only recorded the left guitar, josh, and the drums
is that wolf from the chariot for the guest vocals?
We just posted a live video of this song from their most recent tour. Check it out if you'd like.
On a side note, I haven't watched this video in years and it's pretty amazing.

2:14 My dog, yeah!
Man! Josh Gained weight when he made the chariot

CHRIST IS NOT A FASHION FLEETING AWAY!!!
Very good :) I still really like it, maybe more even though his voice is 'blown out' ^ and sometimes he sounded like Daniel Johnston lol who is amazing also and is the guy at the end, is that Scogin? He completes it much
Its the guy from mewithoutyou
Pretty cool to see live. But this album is so much better on a cd.
@Drebin34678 No. That's Aaron Weiss from mewithoutYou.
Is that Tobias from "The Arrested Development"? Really looks like Tobias!

Aaron saved this performance tbh
Yep. It was rough before that, but he just killed it. In fairness, this was a fairly new song for them and it was *not* a cool day (outside in Birmingham, AL in August 😂).
these guys are sick and weird. But still AWESOME
Fuck..
for some reason the cringe of waifish christians waltzing around stage hits me some 20 years later
sometimes when i think about it, i feel like norma jean kicked josh out of it.
They've kicked each other out haha.
two chords, one song.
Christ is NOT a fashion fleeting away!

James Moore this just looks like a bad day. I've seen other videos of this same year and he kills it.
James Moore I remember hearing this performance was right before josh left the Norma jean and he was supposedly drunk. Idk if true. There's many factors to why this isn't a great performance lol
Mediocrity is the killer
Now imagine GG Allin and his band playing this kind of music.
They are terrible live :D I love their recordings, such complex arrangements but their performance is not even tight and the vocalist fucks up his whole vocal line :D

To be fair, The Chariot's first album was recorded in one take with no mastering
Vocals are terrible.
That performace sucked.
lol....this sucks
