This was shot in the Winter of 2003 on a Hi-8 camera using Nightshot, hence the lack of color. I cannot remember the venue, but I want to say it was called the "School House" or something. Norma Jean was the headlining band, but mewithoutyou were running late so Norma Jean went on early.
It was my first time seeing Norma Jean live and at the time I wasn't very familiar with them, but this show was impressive. The sound quality isn't so great, as I'm standing near the drummer, but nonetheless this is a good watch. Scottie falls and damages his guitar during the last song and breaks it on one of the rafters as the song comes to a close.
I managed to record mewithoutyou's opening song, "Nice and Blue" before I had to go.

It would've been much more incredible had it been with their original singer, Josh Scogin, and not this guy. I saw them twice with this guy and his voice was god awful. I saw then 4 times with Josh and it was epic. Even saw them before they were called Norma Jean, back when they were Luti Kriss and dude...they were insane live.

I don't even think of NJ as a band anymore so much as it is a collective if musicians lol. Corey has been consistent but he's still not the OG vocalist. Either way. I was fortunate enough to see Norma Jean with Josh at the helm and it was one of the most intense moments of my whole life. Next to Converge, or maybe Drain nowadays, there was no live performance quite like it. Just a full on fucking sonic assault of phenomenal lyrics/vocals, brilliant music, and the energy i cant even really quite describe. What a time to be alive.

While I admittedly don’t know much about these guys aside from “Memphis Will be Laid to Waste” (which is an awesome song btw), I’ve heard great things about the rest of _Bless the Martyr_ and I’ve seen a couple of their live performances here on UA-cam. Love the energy they all have here and the overall Hi-8 look, very nostalgic.
