Thanks for the video. Very simple and concise approach to going about the troubleshooting. Had my bike lose power while riding today so need to do a little testing tonight and you gave me a great place to start.

On the starter relay, the black cable opposite the red cable coming from the battery is not a ground. It is a continuation of the power supplied from the red cable (positive +) to the starter, not negative as you twice express...

Hi there. I have a bike which has been off the road for about a year. Got a new battery and checked its charge. But have ZERO when the key is turned. NO electrics,no nothing. I just checked the main fuses and the fuse on the starter and all appear ok. Any ideas would greatly be appreciated. if not, thanks anyways.

Hi, sorry for delay, just seen this. If the live and negative cables are all intact and connected then I'd look at the ignition switch, try putting carbon on the ignition key and into the switch (carbon from a soft pencil which you sandpaper). You don't want to spray anything in there as it will gum up. You need 13v plus ideally on the battery so check that. Double check everything I go through on the video and if still dead then I'd be looking at the connections on the back of the ignition switch. Double check those grounding points and wire brush if you suspect a poor contact.

@@darrenrichards4840 Hiya Darren and thanks for the reply. Good news? I took the ignition switch off, checked the supply to it etc and all appeared fine. I went to start going through the things you suggested but I went and turned the key 1st(why God knows). Anyways, the bloody lights lit up and everything seemed good. Got her started and all was well. But then later, I went to start it again and it struggled to make connection again but it did finally switch on. So it seems my ignition switch IS a bit dicky so I'm gonna do the pencil thing and hopefully it'll sort the problem out. Many thanks anyways mate for your advice. Tc now

Mine cranks, starts and runs but nothing else works but the headlights. No fuel priming, no speedometer everything on the dash board is dead. It’s a 2005 Yamaha 1700 roadstar. What could be the issue.

This is such a pain I don’t want to spend another £300 on my bike to get it fixed but if I want to fix it myself I’m going to have to walk like 5 miles to look at it as it broke down a while away
