    Good stuff! I have carried the 40 ounce Klean Kanteen and the 32 ounce Stainless Nalgene for years. I got my first Grayl Geopress about 8 years ago and have been to India and South America and have had great success using it. Yes, its filter is only good for about 65 gallons before needing replacement, so I had to carry a replacement for every 5 weeks.
    Long term I would still use the stainless water bottle and a Sawyer filter for the budget, but imho, the Grayl is the best option for the best water when away from home.

    I have the original grayl. I've used it for years. I have always pushed the filter down on a dry cylinder. It flushes water out of the filter when not being used for a few days. I have a million bag made to fit over the grayl. That is how I carry the filter system. Less likely to leave the carry bag.😊

    My EDC is the titanium Grayl so I have the metal container built in and still get the benefits of the filter system but that is an even bigger price tag. All of my get home, bug out and hiking bags have a Grayl and the pathfinder nesting cup they have.

    What are your thoughts on a Grayl vs. Sawyer Mini vs. Bush pot in sub freezing temps. I think I'd rather sleep with the mini under my coat than a big ole Grayl. Or May just carry a canteen cup to melt snow and not worry about frozen filters.

    • @offthecouch1999
      @offthecouch1999  Місяць тому +1

      It depends on if there's actually any.Snow on the ground depending on the weather. I've been out in wyoming where it's negative thirty eight, but there's not a single drop of snow on the ground. I will say that the colder it gets, the more a fire becomes useful.Therefore you might as well take advantage of warm water in your body to keep your core temperature up I would regulate with some lukewarm water, so you can stay hydrated at a decent pace. That to be said, my sawyer, has frozen on me in woyoming. Depending on the water source, it may be best to still use it. And then keep your filter close. Enough to the fire where it can't reach freezing temperature but also not melt

    I carry nearly a gallon of water. After that, I'm slow. Then I gotta boil with just a 28oz steel bottle. My alternative is iodine drops or my mini Sawyer.
    To make this system work I carry:
    1 qt nalgene on my belt.
    1 qt nalgene in my pack.
    2 PET thread bottles in my pack.
    1 steel bottle in my pack.
    Mini Sawyer in my pocket.
    Small vial of iodine on my belt. It's 10% so 1 drop per qt, wait half hour.
    Actually that's more than a gallon total. But that's a full kit assuming I will be dropping the pack. Then I'm left with just one water container.
    I'm about to buy the little Grayl... Not for storage, but for the purification. Mini Sawyer will be removed.
