As an Aussie, its awesome to see you featuring not just an iconic band, but such an absolutely amazing hard rock guitarist. Instantly recognisable by image and sound, but such an entertainer. Only a few guitarists can play like him, yet none can do what he’s done and continues to do. For those who are unsure, check out any AC/DC song where they are playing live. Watch, listen and learn from one of the very very best. cheers David
Nice! Love the opening with "D.T." I have always liked that instrumental from the "Maximum Overdrive" movie soundtrack. Yeah, I agree. It's not such a great movie, but it has a really good soundtrack. I have been playing guitar for 45+ years and Angus Young has always been a great influence on me. I prefer the "simple" clean (minimal effects) playing of guitar players like Angus. My favorite guitar player is Dave Meniketti (Y&T). Dave is a big reason I started playing guitar and still play today. I used to have a band and we played a lot of Y&T songs, as they are (still) very popular where I live. Dave is another great "simple" blues scale guitar player, like Angus. Hopefully, you can do a breakdown of Dave's playing someday. Keep up the great work!😊
D.T. That's one of my favorites tunes. Maximum Overdrive came out, and it was the first time, I believe, that a band had ever produced an album as a soundtrack. Who Made Who. D.T. is also the track I request whenever I'm made to do karaoke.
Yeah, I didn't realize until watching the entire video that you gave it away later. Anyway, I mean did Queen did a little for the movie Flash Gordon, but Maximum Overdrive I clearly remember being a turning point. It was in all the mags at the time and everything. Also, I still think it's a great movie! Thanks for all of the lessons brother. I appreciate what you do so much, and please keep them coming.
Definitely R.I.P. Malcolm he was that driving force behind Angus. I was always really attracted to the live album If You Want Blood You've Got It. I don't know something about that album and listening to it got me into a mood like I was at that show jamming and clapping for the band. AC/DC classics like The Jack and Whole Lotta Rosie are on there. Great episode Dave thanks brother!
Still remember going to the Back In Black tour, '81 maybe? Mid size hockey rink in Calgary. Loudest thing I have heard to this day, my ears are still ringing ha. Only one Angus, all while running around like a madman.
God please don't forget Bon Scott but for a first album after a line up change, "Back in Black" has got to be one of the best to ever come after a line up change. 🤘🤘✌️🖖. R.I.P. Mr. Bon Scott
What? I haven't even watched it yet and I'm excited for my next lesson tonight! I just made a fresh pot of French press coffee and I'm rolling a fatty getting ready for this one tonight! Thank you Dave for making my night great!
Hands down my favorite guitarist some people like Page, Beck, Clapton & Hendrix. I think Angus has more fuel then any of them and good Lord what a vibrato. You got the vibrato down too sounds very close
I've always noticed that Angus leans on the second and the sixth a lot more than most other "pentatonic" players, like he's playing in major and minor at the same time. One of my earliest guitar heroes. 🤩
Guys like Clapton especially in his early days and with cream did yhe seamless weaving between maj and min pentatonic, and 2 and 6 would be Dorian which was especially utilized by Peter Green in early Mac etc at least that's what I've read.
Awesome lesson David!!!! just remember, RIFF RAFF, ALWAYS GOOD FOR A LAUGH!!!!!! I ain't never shot nobody, never owned me a gun. Angus rocks and Bon could write. Keep up the great work 🤘 AC/DC RULES🤘🤘🤘
@@tallpaul1020 I totally agree. Back and Black had some of their most iconic, popular songs (they managed to cross over) but Bon’s personality and songwriting were another level. I think of him as something like an Australian version of Steven Tyler with his winking, bawdy sense of humor and sly lyrics. I think Bon is an underrated lyricist!
Great breakdown Mr. Brewster. It’s funny how it was not just AC/DC as being characterized as metal in the ‘70s. So was Zeppelin and Aerosmith. But AC/DC set the hard rock table for what was to come with Van Halen, Motörhead, etc. Good stuff as always!
Angus Young is a masterclass of tasteful, ballsy, melodic fluid playing between the minor and major pentatonic scale. Sure, Clapton and Page do that in all their solos but Angus has an immediately recognizable unique style, incredible vibrato and very clean. I love the way he bends a note a full or 1.5 step and milks the note with full vibrato at the top of the bend. As an intermediate player like me you have to learn his solos
Another super lesson, David! Would you mind sharing your signal chain? A lot of it is that wonderful vibrato you have, but also curious about your pickups, amp as well as any pedals. Cheers!
Angus' vibrato is totally inherited from Paul Kossoff. VERY few players can nail that bend-and-vibrato technique. Hell, almost 3 decades of playing and I'm STILL trying to get it "just right". That, his tone and the "attitude" you hear in his playing will always make him my biggest hero and influence.
Thanks Dave! I was in high school when AC/DC came out and mourned the passing of Bon Scott like so many others. What I most liked about AC/DC was the 'swing' they had live and the guitar synergy of Angus and Malcolm - not many bands played true rhythm and lead they way they did IMHO. They were the leaders of the Aussie invasion (though they were transplanted Brits) in the 80s.
all I've ever heard in my 35 years of playing is how "weird" & "quirky" guys like Vai & Van Halen play. Angus is just as weird & quirky but somehow seems cooler & especially without a whammy bar & crazy effects.
Your comment is blissfully ignorant. Music is music, it’s an art form no matter if you use a whammy bar or not. It’s another form of vibrato, but you overlook that and think that Angus Young is cooler because he doesn’t use this or that. The guitar is a tool of expression, no matter what’s on the guitar pick up strings fret, whammy bars, you just kind of show your ignorance Steve Vai, and Satriani and Eddie Van Halen are far more advanced than Angus Young will never be and that’s a fact. Angus Young is gifted with his craft and he brought us some of the greatest solos in his music that are memorable. They’re the best rock band of all time AC/DC, but he is not the best guitar player. He’s not even close to being the best guitar player, but he’s an amazing guitar player and performer. I started listening to AC/DC at a young age, then moved on the Mötley Crüe and much better stuff. Tesla is like AC/DC, too bad they’re not around anymore. Keep writing great music.
Hell yeah man. One of the greatest lead players from one of the greatest hard Rock bands. Been loving the metal month. Always a good time. Oh yeah I just picked up a 5150 combo amp, that thing howls. Can't wait for the next video
He talks himself down, Very humble guy. His bends and finger roll riffs are absolutely insane. He is responsible for the Rock guitar sound. Undeniable. Look at Record sales. 😎
Awesome episode David I've probably seen AC/DC more than any other band live just worked out that way that first jam from Maximum Overdrive did not sound like AC/DC another great Metal Month episode 🤘
I agree with them being metal. You know I remember the radio stations in Alberta, Canada wouldn't even play AC DC for a long time in the 80's because it was considered too heavy. So think about that. Headbangers were a different breed back then, before metal became mainstream. Soooo many posers nowadays. Kids today have no idea how much we were on the fringe from all those "normals". Turns out we were right the whole time. Our music was, and is better than any other crap that was out there. Metal til Death 🤘
I would even say some vocals will contribute to what the other members are doing. I think Bon did that to a degree... first riff reminded me of VH a bit then that melody reminded me of Vic tor i a but slowed down
@@steveinmidtown ha he definitely blatantly admits to heavy ⚪️usage. I seen an interview where he spoke a lot on this movie. Idc I still love that corny film
I'm serious, could you please tell me if it is a modeling amp or what? I sent this video to my friend who has six different Marshall heads I myself have 2 early 70s 50 Watt heads & we both can achieve the sound but only at blistering volume levels. How did you do it?
Night Prowler is one of my all time favorite ACDC SONGS, it is a very cool and intense song. The whole Highway to Hell album is pure magic. And Powerage too as you and Eddie say 😊
Good lesson, but it's too bad you can't get more of a marshall sound out of that squishy compressed 25 year old berringer modeler. If you are doing an Angus lesson, you have to have a good marshall tone. Can't you upgrade to a Line6 HX Stomp and get some updated tones? And instead of getting your sound from a littel laptop mic, you could go direct from the HX Stomp. That way, you would hear your actual guitar signal more than the strings buzzing from the mic picking that up.
Anytime I see Dave featuring Angus or Billy Gibbons, I know I'm in for a extra special treat....U out did yourself Dave...
As an Aussie, its awesome to see you featuring not just an iconic band, but such an absolutely amazing hard rock guitarist. Instantly recognisable by image and sound, but such an entertainer. Only a few guitarists can play like him, yet none can do what he’s done and continues to do.

Angus and Malcom did indeed shape the sounds of things back 50 years ago . Agree 100 % David . Thanks for this one today . Sounded great BTW…😎👍
Angus & those SGs were the first rock star visuals I remember. An icon bigger than life.

Yep, with Angus it's as much how he plays as what he plays. For just shear feel there is no equal.
I've always noticed that Angus leans on the second and the sixth a lot more than most other "pentatonic" players, like he's playing in major and minor at the same time. One of my earliest guitar heroes. 🤩

Angus is a favorite. Making a guitar cry and scream with no effects. No mind numbing forgetful shredding.
Angus & Malcom riffs are the best ! So simple yet so badass !🔥🔥✌️
Another great Episode, Brewster. Angus' vibrato always stood out to me, heads above anyone else. I try and model mine after him and Randy Rhoads.
Maximum Overdrive is an all time favorite for me

Straight into the amp. Just cranked em up. You gotta be able to play well with that set up, which Angus perfected.

2:59 you forgot Paul Kossof. AC/DC used to cover Alright Now and other Free songs in their club days.
Another super lesson, David! Would you mind sharing your signal chain? A lot of it is that wonderful vibrato you have, but also curious about your pickups, amp as well as any pedals. Cheers!
Beautiful stuff. Great to hear D.T too, not something that gets a lot of airtime but what a great piece of music.

Cool. I’ve always loved those licks
Thanks for the nuggets Dave!

The reason I play guitar and the reason my first electric was an SG I got in 1982! Paired well with my ‘84 JCM800…

Great points mentioned.💯

Angus' vibrato is, as well.
Good point!
Night prowler is what Richard Ramirez- the night stalker listened to. An AC/DC ball cap was found at one of the crime scenes.

I would even say some vocals will contribute to what the other members are doing. I think Bon did that to a degree... first riff reminded me of VH a bit then that melody reminded me of Vic tor i a but slowed down
The Fender cap dude. Gotta have one. Where can I get one?
Any band that I turn up to 10 is metal to me AC DC ROCKS!!
Angus’s secret to soloing - get Malcom to write it 😂
vaguely remember King saying he was out of mind on drugs during the filming of Maximum Overdrive

Can you tell me which studio monitors you have on the desk behind you?
Appreciate the love my comment gesture but really would be useful if you could mention the name of the monitors
Very few guitarists can achieve every solo being memorable! Angus does this along with Rhoad’s, EVH, & Holdsworth Imo! TY 🍺’ski
What are you using? A Kemper, sounds like you have a plexi in there with you just Rippin'

Love how you explain each song. I always learn a lot from your videos. Your tone is off.
