On the up side. I bought one on Black Friday and thought your review was awesome. I feel like I'm ready for it when it arrives now ! Very excited to open it up and already know a little bit about it. Thanks!
great video! I've seen like a dozen now and this is the first one that really shows me how to move around the D3100. I wasn't sure between the Canon T3 and the Nikon D3100 (mainly cause of prize vs tech) but now I know I want this one. Please upload more videos like this. PS, I'm from Chile, I hope it does't come with any glitches since I'm shipping it from the US.
We're just about to buy a D3100. We were lookin at the Cannon EOS1100D, But having tried em in the shop we prefer the feel of the nikon. We found ur review very helpful. Thank you.
@ThoughtsMedia Thank you Jason. My hubby bought D5100 instead before out trip to SG. We just got back from Singapore. Took pics at Night Safari and Universal Studios. Love the camera. He upgraded the SD card to 36GB. But I think I'd need to buy a spare battery and I'm all set for my next adventure. Thanks
thanks for upload the video mr jason, after search for the best quality and price, today I buy this amazing camera ,and finally i get it , just now i have to learn and practice more , but for be my first slr iam really happy, i feel like have a new baby in my hands!!!
quite a good review, at first I thought it was very long (having 2 very long videos) but you quite covered all the basics, so, nice job, I also want this camera.
Great review, waiting for an extensive video and image quality review.. Wish this camera had a side hinged full swiveling LCD screen like the new 60D :(
These pair of videos were pretty helpful :), thanks to you. I hope I had come across this earlier and used your bio link, but I had already purchased the camera ..
Jason, thank you for responding. More than likely, today is the day I'll be making my first DSLR purchase and I'm still conflicted on which camera to get. Granted, I'll probably end up the proud owner of a D3100. Let me ask you one more question if I may: What do you think of the Pentax K-R compared to the D3100? Thank you!
Jason, ... so when can we expect a full review? I'm thinking seriously about picking up this camera but would love to hear your thoughts after several months of use. Your recommendation of the GF1 was spot on and I'm glad I bought it but I'd also like to have a full on DSLR for added versatility. Your thoughts on this camera will go a long way in helping with my decision. :-)
Hey jason... This was the best camera review i have ever watched ( i mean it). Your explanation, presentation was awesome. Thanx dude. Wanted to ask you a simple question about what to choose.. Canon eos 450d or nikon d3100??? (similar price in india)
@ThoughtsMedia Very nice job, I am in the market for a new camera and trying to decide if I should get a high end point and shoot or a low end DSLR. I'm going to mainly use it for landscape photos, and day to day things like sports and people. What do you think would be good?
@ThoughtsMedia ohh I just used the wrong term (i.e review instead of unboxing). anyways thanks for responding.. i am waiting eagerly for a review of Nikon d3100. - Kunal Das
@ThoughtsMedia - Thanks Jason for the info, one more query, with the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 DX lens, will I be able to take blurred background photos of only the nearby objects/people or will I be able to take photos of distant objects with blurred background, for eg: in sports when we see a photo of a sportsperson, we normally see only the sportsman being highlighted and the background of the spectators very blurred, so with the above lens will I be able to get such photos?
Hi Jason; Thanks for the video. It's really helping me to make the decision to choose my first DSLR. I'm a beginner and I'm on a tight budget in choosing the first DSLR for me. Should I wait for D7000 instead of D3100? Does this camera has stop motion function and how about the sound, is it mono or stereo? Sorry for asking too much. Thanks.
hey! thanks for your reply on my previous comment! i actually bought this! and took some pretty good pictures and video with it! certainly im very pleased with the quality for the amount i put for.. it definitely produce way better pics than my d40, especially in low light conditions.. in your previous comment, you told me to get some lenses, i heard that d3100 couldnt use much lense variety, so can you recommend to me some lenses that would be useful, im a student, so with lower price as well
Bought this DSLR about a year ago, I swapped from a Sony a200 because the Sony became too heavy for me, and that was before a lens was attached. The D3100 is a breeze to use. I just wish I had bought the package that included the 70- 300 Tamron but tried to get the Sigma lens instead.
Jason, What's your opinion on the low resolution rear LCD screen? I'm going to be buying my first DSLR this Friday. I love the Nikon's price but I'm really leaning toward spending the extra cash on the Canon T2i, specifically for the million plus dot LED. Would you recommend spending the extra money? Any opinion you could give would be great, thank you. Great reviews!!
Hey there Jason, really helpful videos! I'm looking at purchasing this camera after the great reviews it seems to be getting! What is the small wheel type thing just above the thumb grip? And would you recommend this camera to someone who is a fast learner, and ambitious with taking good pictures? Nothing in particular as of yet, just exploration more than anything. Any response is great! Thanks, Josh.
@ThoughtsMedia Thanks for the info... This camera model has a 18-55m vr lens...so for each photography shot we need to rotate it manually to take a shot? is it so? to focus manually by rotating it isn't it? Will it be a time waste to judge when doing a photography? and by the way i got the price of this camera in india... and another doubt may be its silly but dn't mind i dont know anything about camera... u said about extreme memory cards which is faster... is that available only in canada?
U said there is no usb inside the box is that risk to buy it then? and moreover... i dream of this camera in my life... to buy first camera in my life... what is the price for india...??? can u tell me the rate? and too thanks for such a nice video... it looks so cool...
Great video but question: Did the camera come with a USB connector? I mean how am I supposed to upload the photos to the computer and to facebook etc, if it doesnt come with the USB charger..or could you just put the USB card into the computer? sorry, not very experienced person here.
hey jason! thanks again! i will be saving money for the 35mm f/1.8 DX lens but then, this weekend, there is a function going on, and i was appointed as photographer.. any advice on shooting dim lighted place with this camera(its in a hotel), i dont have external flash, and my only lens is kit lens.. and btw, whats the function of 3d focus, is it better than the other focus, when should i use it?
Some questions: What happens at the end of that 10min video limit? No more videos saved on that memory card? Finally, about how many pictures and/or videos can be saved on a 16gb memory card?
@ThoughtsMedia - How do you find the screen on the back? I have heard a lot complaining about it being low pixels compared to the canons. Is it noticeable? Is the screen ratio 3:2 to match the picture?
Jason, I am planning to buy D3100 without lens. Which is the best lens you will suggest me to use with this cam. I am purely an amateur photographer and completely new to DSLR. My understanding is 18-55 lense is good only to shoot closer objects or can I get a zoom equavalent to 5X in digital cam using this lens??
Gd review - looking to getting this to start videography hdslr - just wondering, i've been looking at the patriot card as an alternative, how does it perform against the sandisk in regards to video recording? cheers
So CCD sensor is good or CMOS , and also i heard that larger the sensor better the quality of a photo so what does that imply . Pls review the Sony NEX 5 , with this !!!
hey jason, thanks for the review, im a little uncertain, in getting a new dslr, my previous is a d40 which served me very well, for 3 years.. and im looking for an upgrade.. considering d5000 or d3100, d7000 seems phenomenal, but way above budget, so for say 800$, what would you recommend..?

Hi, I just recently a D3100, I have a 18-55 MM lens, I have no knowledge whatsoever regarding photography, however I would like to know if we will be able to take photographs with a blurred background, like we see in professional photographs, if not what lens do I need to buy to take get photographs like those.
Hi Jason! May I know what's the battery life of this camera is like? I'm not a pro or anything but I hate running out of batt when I'm traveling. Thank you. :)
I have a question for u! I just bought this camera and I do motocross so I bought this camera to Take some sick pics of my friends! I've seen amazing pics online! I heard this camera will work great but what settings and iso and all should I use for outdoor motocross and I should add that I'm a beginner and im using default lens!
im hoping to do a photography a level (i think it contains alt of black and white work) and i really love this camera, would you recommend it for this? if so what kind of lens would be best? im sorry for all the questions but i do find so much of this confusing xD thank you :) xx

Hi, thanks for the review, i was wondering can you turn the auto focus off, or not? and do you think this is a good camera to shoot sport on?? thanks in advance
@ThoughtsMedia thank you jason...so does it mean that shouting object who is in motion comes blurry or not...for example, some man whos is runing or horse...or something?sorry my english is not very well :)

Hi ! Thanks for doing such an amazing video ! I decided to go for my first DSRL cam and i j got the Nikon D3100..But since im new on Photografhy i a have a doubt, if a have a 4gb SD Card (and since i will be shooting on RAW) and a i want to save space, but keep image quality. ¿do i get a lower quality of the picture if i decided to shoot on 8-10 Mpx instead of the 14.2 ? .... of course i good solution is buying another card, but i have this doubt. Thanks a Lot (sorry about my english jeje)
Hey! Great reviews bro! I recently started out in buying cameras, and i came across nikon d3100 which is the reason why im here. When i wanted to buy it from the retail store, the salesman introduced me samsung nx10 and samsung nx100. Which are also pretty good cameras and price. Im stuck in which one should i get. I can see that you are a Nikon fan but I was wondering if you could give your views on other canon cameras, it would be easier for me and some others? Thanks!
Hey is this a good DSLR for real beginners? Like I really dont know that much about dslrs yet and I'm looking for my first one. ( I will be using it mostly for film making btw but I'll do photography too. )
I don't understand the 10 min video thing. Will it only record 10 min of video (which seems worthless) or will it only record in 10 minute sections. Would have liked to see the photo spurt setting--3 pics in 1 sec.

@gooberxbeans Since D3100 doesn't have stop motion capability, I'm also would like to know which is better in term of still picture quality (since D3100 have higher MP)....
Auto-focus isn't an option for me when im shooting videos and I don't know why. I've tried shooting a video and focusing at the same time but then it either stops the video completely and takes a photo or when i play back the video, theres this sound that goes on (from the focusing) and it's really fustrating. I have no idea what to do!
when we talk about bridge cams with the optical zoom we say its 5x.10x,20x ... but in a world of dsrl and lens...how would l know how much optical zoom have some lens...for example 18-105 how much optical zoom has? thanks...
Thanks Jason! I'm sure I can speak for more than just myself when I say I really appreciate you taking the time to do these videos.
On the up side. I bought one on Black Friday and thought your review was awesome. I feel like I'm ready for it when it arrives now ! Very excited to open it up and already know a little bit about it. Thanks!
Unboxing is a bit of an understatement... This looks like a great camera! great review!
It is actually good to close the flash everytime when not in use, it saves power and also keeps it safe n clean like you've mentioned.

thanks for upload the video mr jason, after search for the best quality and price, today I buy this amazing camera ,and finally i get it , just now i have to learn and practice more , but for be my first slr iam really happy, i feel like have a new baby in my hands!!!
@ThoughtsMedia I haven't checked anything so this is just from memory but the feature isn't auto focus during video but auto focus during live mode.
@Darnellsolo dslr's have a 1080p video quality like no other video camera, for example canon 5d mark 2, that camera is used in movies and ads.
quite a good review, at first I thought it was very long (having 2 very long videos) but you quite covered all the basics, so, nice job, I also want this camera.
Awsome review man, I really want this camera for grade 11 camera class.
Very well done video.
Perfect lighting for this purpose. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for reviewing it for us. You're doing an awsome job!
Great review, waiting for an extensive video and image quality review.. Wish this camera had a side hinged full swiveling LCD screen like the new 60D :(

On another note, great review of the camera, the best i have found anywhere on the internet. Thanks!
can you take a picture without flash and without selecting the no flash mode? please reply
One suggestion is that in one of ur videos u can give a brief description of what each button does ...
the D3100 is a good camera the image is clean and also the video i highly recommend this.. thanks Jason for the review!
Hey jason... This was the best camera review i have ever watched ( i mean it). Your explanation, presentation was awesome. Thanx dude. Wanted to ask you a simple question about what to choose.. Canon eos 450d or nikon d3100??? (similar price in india)

Thank you Jason! I wanted to buy this camera, but now D5100 is newer than D3100,and also more expensive. Do you sell this cameras to Kazakhstan?
Does it have an input for an external mic?

Some questions: What happens at the end of that 10min video limit? No more videos saved on that memory card? Finally, about how many pictures and/or videos can be saved on a 16gb memory card?
Where can you buy a bag for this type of camera? Like a padded one that fits this specific type?

im a little uncertain, in getting a new dslr,
my previous is a d40 which served me very well, for 3 years..
and im looking for an upgrade..
considering d5000 or d3100,

To your answer about max file length no matter what resolution setting? 10 min is max
I'm going to buy this camera tomorrow, and I was just wondering, is there a way to override so everything is manual?
I have a question for u! I just bought this camera and I do motocross so I bought this camera to Take some sick pics of my friends! I've seen amazing pics online! Hi Jason!!! This vid made me get one yesterday!!! :) Question: Does it make a sound when it's locked on in the focus in the M,S,A,P modes?? Thanks!!!! :)
How come you close the flash everytime after you take a picture? Is it just to keep it clean and safe?
How is the battery life on this camera? Looks really nice, hoping Santa puts one under the tree for me this year! :)

I can see that you are a Nikon fan but I was wondering if you could give your views on other canon cameras, it would be easier for me and some others? Thanks!

Do you think it's a good idea to buy this camera used on amazon?
Hey is this a good DSLR for real beginners? Like I really dont know that much about dslrs yet and I'm looking for my first one. ( I will be using it mostly for film making btw but I'll do photography too. )
@ThoughtsMedia Thanks a lot!! :)
great review. Is the body made of metal or plastic?

Very good unboxing and hands on Subscribed :)
this camera looks awsome!!
I don't understand the 10 min video thing. Will it only record 10 min of video (which seems worthless) or will it only record in 10 minute sections.
Would have liked to see the photo spurt setting--3 pics in 1 sec.

what settings you suggest to me,
iso 1600? with largest aperture, in aperture priority mode, 3d focus,.. will be taking decent picture.. how bout if i used the inbuilt flash?
sorry for asking many questions.. im a beginner, and i would really love to learn a lot...^^
Thanks for the great Vid Jason (: Santa just gave me one Nikon D3100 and i needed some help.
can u manually focus the camera and adjust it by itself like the old days or is it all auto" "
hi i just want to know if you know about screen proteccion for this camara =) is hard to find it? or is just no exist
