But that consiquence will lead to his regeneration into the legendary doctor we knew and love. Surely the Third Doctor is a James Bond type of Doctor and an action hero who saves not only Earth but also some other planets but his later incarnation would become synonymous as one of the kind and legendary Doctor.
Jo Grant was one of the few companions that left the TARDIS for a very interesting reason. She wasn't dropped off somewhere because the Doctor had to go, or was left behind, and certainly didn't die. No, she left the TARDIS because she found something worth staying for. She married a man who was passionate about the Earth, protecting the life living on it, and she wanted to join a worthwhile cause. All of time and space is wonderful, but sometimes the most important adventures are on Earth, working to keep it safe from those who don't look after it.
Some footage from the episode was absent here. After scaling the cliff to escape the serpent, the Doctor reaches the top, only to then be menaced by a huge shadow suddenly looming over him. That turn out to be a huge pair of talons that he narrowly avoids.
I visited Metebelis III myself a few weeks ago. Nice place, friendly people. Scenery's great, the food is lovely, and you always feel at home. Not a bad place at all.
When I was 12 or 13 years old I got up early one Sunday morning and turned on the TV. I stumbled across a science fiction show I had never seen before on channel 9 in New York. This was when Doctor Who was still in syndication in the U.S., circa 1973, before it went to PBS. This is from the first few minutes of the first episode I ever watched when it was brand new and first run here in the States.
Caitlyn Martin I first found Doctor Who on channel 9 in New York in 1977. Funny enough the first story I ever saw was Robot. Tom Baker’s first story. I was 5 years old and have been a fan ever since.
For me it was Channel 7 in Arlington, VA across the river from DC, and the episode was with the Silurians. They were only 30-minute episodes with cliffhangers at the end of every 30-minute episode. I miss those so much now, I am 67 and those were great shows back then.
Ah, I'm Scottish. I saw the very first episode, An Unearthly Child, November 23rd 1963. I was 4 years old and William Hartnell was the Doctor. The first episode was delayed for some minutes due to news from Dallas. 🤔 The show celebrates it's 60th anniversary this year.👍
Pertwee era at it's finest. In just a few minutes you got character conflict, well written and delivered exposition, poignancy, sadness, adventure, suspense and comedy. Long live King Jon!
There's also plenty of grey between Jo and the Brig's opinions on the mining operation. It's nice to see the show showing the arguments without telling you which one to believe.
The green death was filmed in deri, south wales and on the old colliery .I watched them film the episode 50 yrs ago.after filming we got to speak to Jon Pertwee and the cast. I will never forget it,so amazing and awesome
They caricatured right wing politicians, Daleks are Nazi analogues and this very scene has Jo and the Brigadier acting out opposed political views on Green Energy. Hmmmmmmmmmm >.>
@@markfox1545 And I wish they still don't either, but that's the bloody world we live in, where beloved age-old TV shows get chopped up and served as lunch to the F*CKING SJW SNOWFLAKES!
Jo and Jones interacting with each other and the Brigadier trying to contact the Doctor, intercut with the Doctor's Metebelis III shenanigans is very funny
Love this, 2 different sides to the argument: Jo's vs the Brigadier's, and yet they're both characters we are to root for, rather than the black-and-white shite we've had in Who of recent years. Regarding the Brig's words "cheap petrol and lots of it, exactly what the world needs", this episode pre-dated the oil crisis by a few months.
The Brigadier is often just outright in the wrong, and this story once again shows him to have been wrong. (He also even himself in this very clip shows that he's open to Jo's opinion; more than most would today). It's quite a black-and-white story, more than many we've had recently (e.g. Kerblam!)

I love how the very moment the Doctor gets to Metebelis III, literally everything starts trying to kill him.
Only on his 2nd visit would one succeed…Too soon ?
The only thing that was missing was Liz Shaw with him
When the holiday destination doesn't match the brochure...
This little trip would later prove to have devastating consequences to The Doctor.
Yeah. One thing I like about Planet of the Spiders is that it shows off how the nonchalant things the Doctor does can sometimes come back to bite him.
Pretty much.

She's one of quite a few who left through their own choice.
He looks so sad when Jo leaves :'(
Jo Grant was wise not to go with the Doctor to Metebelis 3 or she would‘ve been scared out of her wits seeing how hostile that planet is.
Good old Metebelis 3. Just watch out for the spiders.
@@raksh9 There weren't any giant spiders there when the Doctor first visited Metebelis 3.

I reckon he would avoid getting into its caves after what happened last time...
Favourite Third Doctor costume right here.
I personally liked his outfit in "Invasion of the Dinosaurs". Loved the blue jacket.
Yeah I like the green one.
My favourite Third Doctor costumes are the Planet of the Daleks, The Three Doctors, Invasion of the Dinosaurs & Death to the Daleks. :)

I like the Dracula cape from his first Season.
