Hey Michael, you have a really nice presentation style - very relaxed and I love the overlay footage quality - you obviously use the camera and use it well. I'm looking at this camera to replace my EOSR too! But slightly conflicted as I love the look from the new C80 / C400 - I can only choose 1 - we shall see!
ah yes that makes a lot of sense. I think in that case it mostly comes down to portability. I would go C80/C400 if you don't need to have a lightweight setup or R5C if you need to travel lighter. C80 and C400 definitely have the better image over the R5C but R5C is king for portability!
spent years using canon. Great for ecom. They last. But for travel its always Fuji. They make such an amazing range. And teh size makes it ideal for running around the dessert.
oh yeah Fuji seems great, always been intrigued to try them out. Do they have a travel friendly sized camera that shoots 10 bit 4k log footage up to 60fps? thats pretty much what i wouldn’t be willing to compromise on i think
I have been a BMPCC4K user for the last 6 years and currently torn between this and the FX3. As other people have said, the battery life doesn't sound too bad coming from the BM but the main thing I care about is image quality and usability. I don't know if I could deal with the FX3 menus and lack of false colour. I'd mainly be using the camera on a gimbal.
It's always a struggle carrying a photo and cinema body around. Unfortunately in the Sony realm (unless you pay millions for the A1) I've just accepted the A7IV is the best hybrid. Was always intrigued by the R5C though. looks amazing!
yeah i guess the funny thing is i always felt jealous that sony had better hybrid cameras for years, and then finally canon came out w this one and now i think it’s sony that has to respond to that now. i’m sure the a1 is amazing though like you said haha
Love my R5c and don’t think I could replace it with anything for years to come. Used to use the 1dxii when that was the king and felt it was a great option as a hybrid camera back in those days. Sure it was only 8 bit 4k and lacked log and some other features that are more cinema camera like but it offered great versatility, speed, ruggedness and a great image. I then moved to the Xt3 which was amazing and small compared to the 1dx but it lacked photo resolution and the 4k was just not my vibe. I debated lee[ing the xt3 and getting a c70 but out came the r5c and I had to have it. 45mp still images are really nice to have that resolution and the ability to shoot super easy to edit 4k XFAVC in log is perfect for my needs. 8k is cool cool but don’t use it that often. I can edit footage on my iPad Pro m4 in DR no issues. I have an external V-mount battery that uses a simple small rig under camera bracket for all day video shooting. And if traveling or driving I can charge it in the car. I would LOVE canon to give us clog 2 in this camera via firmware but doubt they ever will. If they can give face AF IN 4K120P TOO THAT be welcomed as well.
Couldn’t agree more! I feel like the R5C doesn’t get the love it deserves because of the battery ( which is almost fixed now with the battery from the r5ii ) and not having clog2. If Canon drops the R5cii with clog2 I think there will be a ton of people jumping ship.
The R5C is probably the only true hybrid camera from Canon. All the others have some major flaws in either photography or video. At this price point, the Nikon Z8 is probably the only good competitor. The battery life is much better than the R5C but it can overheat since it hs no active cooling. At a lower price bracket like $2000, the S5iix is probably the best value hybrid at the moment
yeah i think i agree w you on that! i’ve been a long time canon shooter so i think im pretty happy currently, but it is interesting to keep an eye on what else is out there and have an open mind
The Lumix cameras have always tempted me. The GH6 looks like a beast too. The only issue with the s5II/X is the added sharpness and detail loss compared to the s5. Most people won't notice and you can desharpen in post, but I guess it's just preference. The assist tools and opengate are something special.
Awesome video, I prefer the Canon R6 MKII as a travel camera and b-cam to my C70. Mainly because of the battery situation. I come from using the BMPCC6K and 6K G2 and those always needed external power and I just don’t want that life anymore. I wish the R6 MKII had XFAVC and 4K 120fps like the R5C. I do think that the R5C is the better camera but the battery life situation is just a massive con for me but I do like the R5C a lot.
I only have 2 V-mount Smallrig VB50 🔋This means almost 9 hours 4K/25 🎥more thn 4 hours 4K/50 or 🎥2.5 hours 4K/100 🎥+ all day photography 📸 (with SmallRig Mini V-Lock Battery Plate with Belt Clip... no + weight) super comfy : don't look for different solutions... Also💡you don't need to turn off the camera when you don't use it, just press the ▶"media playback button", cos when you press the "media playback" button, all sensors and the fan stop, so you're always ready for action to no power consumption...
I am shooting for Business the 8K raw 12 bit for some reason haha, not once i tasted it I cant get below that, I am using that setting as the camera Negative it just gives me more, the quality of colors I get after Davinci Resolve Studio are just amazing, I am just using it for that and then master all in 4K to edit or for clients, I get rid of the huge 8K files after the color process and is amazing
Batteries, I carry just 4 every day (Canon LP-E6NH) I shoot Stock video for Getty, 4 are enough maybe 5 one day I was almost out of the 4th, but 4 are ok, just remember to turn off the camera every time you are not using it and the life is perfectly fine
Battery life is not that bad to me at least because I use the bmpcc4k the battery in camera last around 20-30min shooting in 4k 24fps 65min is a breath of fresh air. I don’t use higher frame rates that much.
Hey Khale, if you shoot at 4k or 6k a little loose, you simply crop in the sides and Vola! 9:16 vertical 1080px wide and 1920px high. Premiere Pro reframing makes it easy to shoot once and edit for multiple outputs.

@@michaeldbliss ye the XH2s can do that! But its a bit bigger than the rest of the Fuji lineup
No Fuji has that kind of ergonomics, features and the image as this. It's a good option, but it not in the same class.
The cinema menu was the deciding factor for me. Coming from a C500ii and owning a C70 the R5C was a no brainer. Amazing stills too.

!!ALERT!!! Josh Satin proved the R5c runs 50% longer with the new canon R5ii battery. Yall better go grab a lot of them if you own an R5c.

Is the Sony A1 a solid contender for video though? It seems like it’s not that great/just ok

It kinda gets clog2, but we have to record in raw and apply clog2 in post

As someone who once owned a Blackmagic Pocket 4K, the R5C battery life looks absolutely fine to me :) That Pocket 4K sucked so hard. In so many ways.
Great job! Was thinking of picking up an R5 until viewing this…do wish it had built in ND filter…
Get the drop in adapter.
I see my guy Santiago! Love this video! I wish I picked this up instead of the R5
Well explained. Happy for you brother 😊
thanks bro! Appreciate you supporting

This is cool video Michael
thanks Jasmine!

I remember you jam packing camera bodies into your backpack for travel shoots 😂
ahahaha dude yep 😂

Hey dude just a quick question. How is the rolling shutter on the videos compared to other high megapixel hybrid cameras
The new R5 Mark II batteries last 50% longer with the R5C!
yes I've heard this! definitely want to check that out
are you shooting in power saving mode? it was part of a firmware update that came out awhile ago (I hadn't been until recently)
Great explanation here man! Love the R5C. Battery life is wack though haha
thanks Jonah! yeah the battery is bad 😂
Amazing shots in the video. Thanks for sharing. 👍17
thanks so much for watching and for the kind comment!
Are all the videos on your channel shot with this ? It would be helpful to know in the video title at a glance
What do you think would be the Sony or Nikon equivalent to this? Considering buying this or something else in another brand
Nikon z6iii seems to be a close equivalent.
Use the new LP-E6P battery and you will get 50% more use time
is the canon r5c good for shooting vertically?
Hey Khale, if you shoot at 4k or 6k a little loose, you simply crop in the sides and Vola! 9:16 vertical 1080px wide and 1920px high. Premiere Pro reframing makes it easy to shoot once and edit for multiple outputs.
can you shoot in 120fps with settings and upload it, its worst camera for me, in 60-120 fps its giving black shade lines like old black and white TV
Make sure you have it set to 50mhz if you're in the UK or 59 in the US (it conflicts with lighting otherwise - hence your flicker)
Or use power saving mode.
