      Thanks for breaking it down for the viewers. Believe it or not I have perfected this recipe. I make the rice and let sit overnight first. Obviously I use Jasmin and or Basmatti, washed in cold water, then cooked (no oil/salt/butter etc). I make this up to 4 times a week sometimes. It's quick, easy and oh so tasty.

    I've looked into why MSG is added to food, and they say it boost flavor, but it gets a bad rap because that type is manufactured and not the natural form it was discovered from, and so many people have adverse reactions. But overall the stir fry looked delicious

    Thanks for the video. I'm not a Thai but I love Thai fried rice. We do fried rice at home but I admit Thai fried rice is great. To those who hate MSG, just don't put msg. That simple. (MSG is unfairly maligned). I think this food will taste excellent (even without msg). Thanks.

      marshal rodriguez I agree with you about MSG. Most people who claim to get stomach upsets from MSG ("Chinese Restaurant Syndrome") are not getting ill from the MSG, but the grease that they are consuming eating Chinese-American foods that are loaded with grease. You cannot confuse those foods with authentic Chinese food. Very few people have issues with MSG, and people who do also cannot eat most snack foods, frozen and canned foods as well. I had a dear friend who hallucinated from MSG (it interferes with the blood brain barrier in a very small group of people), but she could eat nothing that contained it. . It got to the point that eating out was impossible. Despite talking to the chef at a fancy restaurant about this problem, and after assuring us that MSG was not to be found in any of the products in the entree Lee ordered, (steak and baked potato) we ended up in the emergency room because of commercial steak seasoning with Lee Trippin' Ballz. I on the other hand have no issues with MSG, it's much better than pesticides and GMOs that we have no choices over.

      marshal rodriguez People who say bad things about msg are not educated on the subject. A simple google search of msg will reveal a tremendous amount of information. Like how MSG is in everything we eat naturally EVERYTHING. So when people go off about msg making them sick or messed up they are lying. Samidella Idella is correct they get sick off the greasy crap that comes out of fake chinese food eateries. However he did make me more curious by that story.

    • @samidellaidella532
      @samidellaidella532 9 років тому +2

      dubsity280 You are correct most people are uneducated on the subject and go with what they've heard or pseudo-science.
      The handful of people who have issues, have reactions to "free glutimates" that cross the blood brain barrier. It is a very uncommon and rare reaction.They essentially get poisoned from glutamic acid. Glutamic acids are found in all foods, but when they are added in large amounts (like chips, snacks, bad Chinese/American) they cannot balance it as it goes directly to the brain and causes toxicity. IF one had that condition one would be unable to eat most processed foods and snack foods (like my friend). Again, it is very uncommon. Most people are reacting to the 90 grams of fat, salt and sugar in the crappy Chinese-American dishes that they indulge in then claim that they are sweating, have a stomach ache and are having chest pains...and that it MUST be from the MSG. There has been a lot of pseudo science, but in small quantities MSG has not been proven to be any more harmful than salt.
      I on the other hand, cannot eat anything with the fake sweetener Aspartame. Within 10 minutes of ingesting Aspartame I get dizzy, a headache and get a rash. I actually participated in a study about 25 years ago and I was the only one that consistently reacted to the spiked sample rather than the placebo. I guess everyone is unique, but let's face it there are always those who need to be "allergic to peanuts" or cant eat MSG or Gluten because they think it adds some mystique to their generic lives. They also don't realize how bad it sucks to have to monitor all the food that you eat and how often you have to decline because of uncertainty or actual ingredients.

      I do agree for those who don't put MSG on their food. MSG is a food enhancer. Even Maggi Seasoning is also a food enhancer and this makes this fried rice so tasty, delicious and addicting!

    People can argue, but when you come back from Thailand and try to cook fried rice and it don't taste like it does in the street restaurant, this is why; because no Thai fried rice I've ever seen written out has all those ingredients listed. Thanks for getting the real deal on this street level version of fried rice, Mr Vee! Great video.

    There is a program on a US television channel called Veria titled Chasing The Yum where the food is prepared by a Thai-American chef by the name of Jet Tila who is extremely health conscious and yet he prepares some of the most delicious dishes to come out of Thailand China, India and other Asian countries. It is every bit as delicious as the exact same dishes prepared but WITHOUT MSG or overdoing it with the salt and sugar. Again, moderation and restraint are the order of the day and the diet.

    The first thick sauce at 1:53 was probably OYSTER SAUCE not SOY SAUCE. Then FISH SAUCE and lastly SOY SAUCE. Thai's will use oyster sauce and soy sauce together in their fried rice.

      Thais use different kinds of soy sauces with different flavor profiles. First soy sauce is Healthy Boy brand "dark" soy sauce. Second soy sauce is the "light" soy sauce.

    • @Pepehza
      @Pepehza 8 років тому

      Yes, I can confirmed that because I'm Thai people. There's a lot of seasoning such as
      Dark soy sauce (the first one that you saw) to make the taste bitter salty and darken colour.
      Fish sauce (the second ones) makes a good smell from fish and also salty.
      Maggi Soy sauce (the third ones) makes a unique smell and very good taste.
      but not at all in our kitchen.
      Sweet soy sauce makes bitter sweet taste and darken colour.
      Light soy sauce makes a good smell and a little bit salty.
      Oyster sauce makes a smooth taste of sweetness saltiness.
      Blah blah...

      Well you're very off on describing the ingredients! It IS in fact pork powder, which you can flavour a soup with if you like, but it is used alot like you saw in the video. Never heard of BURNT garlic as an ingredient in Thai dishes eather. Have heard of fried garlic, which you fry in oil so you get fried garlic and garlic oil, both of which you can use as condements in Thai dishes.

    • @Errol246
      @Errol246 9 років тому +4

      What you are talking about is free glutamate, not MSG. MSG stands for mono sodium glutamate and is different from glutamate in that it has been added a sodium molecule, thereby making it into a salt and allowing you to sprinkle it onto your food, whilst glutamate, which correctly, as you yourself have stated, is found in most foods and acts as an important amino acid as an excitatory neurotransmitter vital to humans and all other mammals in various aspects of the nervous system. However, according to an article I've read the concentration of glutamate found inside the body needs to be kept at a constant equilibrium, as both too little and too much glutamate is toxic to the body, thus explaining why a scientist experienced numbness and heart palpitations after having eaten a meal of Chinese food containing MSG, or at least that's the theory. MSG is unnatural to eat since it is artificially made in a lab and it will cause brain damage over time because the concentration of MSG goes out of balance. I suspect naturally occuring glutamates, which are the ones you refer to, don't have this problem because they react differently with glutamate receptor proteins that prevents glutamate toxicity. That being said, your statement is technically both right and wrong since your reply suggests that MSG, or glutamate with one sodium molecule, is present in all foods in that form. If you go to America it most certainly will be present in most if not all processed foods, but it doesn't occur naturally in real food in that state. Please think twice before you call some random person on the internet stupid and try to get your facts straight first. Remember that I'm a human being just like you that could have been hurt by such an insult. Notice how I'm not calling you stupid.
      Have a great day.

B*tch please, have you read the back of that can of Campbell's soup you love so much...or that beef jerky you always get from the food mart? Yeah, that's right...MSG!!!!!!!!! How do you think they stay on the shelf so long without spoiling??? MSG!!!!!! Haha. Lol.

    • @4RedDwarf3
      @4RedDwarf3 8 років тому

      +lovely white I have to laugh at your comment that MSG is a preservative LOL.
      Canned goods, such as soups or w/e, have a long shelf life because they are canned. Jerky is dried meat which is why it has a long shelf life, just to mention the ones you mentioned. There are many other examples, and many do not use MSG.
      MSG is a flavour enhancer, not a preservative. I'm not saying its good or bad, because its naturally occurring in some foods, BUT... the MSG used in powder form to enhance these dishes is probably chemically made.

      +4RedDwarf3 Where in my comment did I declare that MSG is a preservative? MSG IS used in canned goods to disguise that "metallic tin can" taste, and therefore make the "fresh flavor" last longer. It's smarty-pants like you who think the food labels tell you everything used. At least here I get see the food made before m eyes. I'll take this teaspoon of MSG flavored fried rice over your canned soup any day. Stick with your cheese burgers and butter, bruh. God knows USA has a healthy and low obesity rate. Think I'll stay in Thailand and eat my veggies and rice stir fry, msg and all. Good luck, and God bless you.

      MSG doesn't prevent spoiling. It enhances the umami flavor in food. It's a naturally occurring ingredient in savory foods like parmesan cheese, tomato paste, soy sauce, dried kelp, etc. It's already been proven that it does nothing to people who eat food with pure msg in it. If they did, you'd fall sick for having parmesan cheese on your spaghetti. You're just as uninformed as the MSG haters.

    It may delicious, but it isn't the same, it isn't the same...As a long-time expatriate in Chiangmai, I can't really put my finger on any changes that I want to see in Thai people, or the way they do things, especially cooking!......If you don't like MSG, don't use it MSG....besides, the problems associated with MSG have much to do with behavior, and little to do with the substance itself......It's pure Umami...when desired, to be used in moderation.

      "Pork powder" is basically bouillon powder. They're sold under various brands and comes in different flavors (e.g. pork, beef, chicken, vegetable, fish). At western markets they're sold under the brand labels: Knorr, Maszola, Lee Kum Kee and Goya just to name a few.

    The dish looks great Mr. Vee, but I agree with Mackrand66 above. Stay away from that MSG. It will KILL YOU! It is the cause of headaches and heart palpitations among several additional negative attributes. I was quite surprised to find out just how many everyday American food products contain this stuff, so it adds up to an overload on the system very quickly. Avoid consuming it if and when possible. Both you and your health will be better off as a result. A GREAT dish otherwise Mr. Vee!

    Yikes, tell 'em no MSG. Causes heart palpitations. Bad stuff. The rest is just fine.
    If you like it, say: "Korp Kuhn Mahk Kap". Don't forget! Listen for it and say it like the Thai say it. The ladies will say "Korp Kuhn Mahk Ka!" back.
    Good video.
