I cooked this dish today and it was one of the best fried rice dishes I've ever had. I believe the sugar in the dish helped take it another knotch and then the fish sauce and lime just enhanced the dish to yet another level. I made enough for 2-3 servings, but I ate it all within the hour. Great dish!

Great tip on adding a little bit of rice first to soak up the juice of the shrimp and the garlic. By the way, I love the rustic look and feel of your cooking videos with the birds chirping in the background and the natural sounds of being outside, reminds me so much of Colombia.
Made this today for Iftar. I added some basil flakes and a few fresh basil leaves. My whole kitchen smells like a Thai restaurant and everyone loved the fried rice as well. Thanks Mark!
I made this today for dinner just substituted Chinese broccoli with beans and it was so good. Definitely satisfied my thai food cravings. The measurement for seasonings were so perfect
I made this recipe today. I have to tell you, I’ve tried to make this over 2 years. And could never get it right, until now. Very very grateful for your video!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
Thank you! For specifying how Asian cooks, it not the measurements but the taste behind the roots that was taught and never forgotten! Keep up your blogs, love it and bless your family!
I made this today and my family loves this fried rice. I couldnt find limes in the local supermarket so I replaced them with lemons but still a success. Another change I made was to add about a teaspoon of sugar into the fish sauce.
Very well done. I made a vegetarian version of this. Instead of the Shrimp I used peppers and tomato. Instead of the broccoli I used spinach. Delicious.
This is a wonderful and delicious recipe. Never made Thai fried rice like this before. I always mixed chilies and fish sauce in to the rice while cooking. Love the idea of topping off with black pepper, lime and chilies with fish sauce, just amazing. This is also a great recipe for people with kids because you can make the fried rice separate and then just use the chilies with fish sauce for heat on top. Thank you!
I love your VDOs! Your dish looks so authentic! Like, not just homemade Thai authentic, but the exact street food style that I won't find outside Thailand. And the way you talk about the food! Only the people who know how to think both like a non-Thai AND like a Thai describe it so well like that! -- Really, well done!
Hey, Mark! I just want to let you know that I've done this a few times, following your khao pad goong recipe (except for the fish sauce which is hard to find here), and it's just AMAZING!!! 😃 Greetings from Brazil!
i have been brought up in spicy Sri lanka. Ventured this dish today and was one of the best fried rice I've ever had ,Works adding a little bit of rice at first to soak up the juice of the shrimp and the garlic,My two teenager kids went head over heels of the taste.Added few more vegetables as well.Amazing
Love this simple recipe as so many complicate and use so many ingredients not needed. I have been to Thailand many times and this is true Thai style fried rice. Thanks again Mark as you nailed it.
Hi. having shrimps, cooked rice from 2 days ago, and all the veggies and spices ==> going to do tonight this version of fried rice (i also checked: chinese, malaysian... but this thai recipe convinced me). by the way, the chilies + fish sauce + bit of lemon dip (i do it all the time, i love it, i can eat it by the spoon...) i put a bit of sugar in it. THANK YOU and best regards from Brussels!
I absolutely love this guy, his videos are absolutely amazing. He constantly reminds me of my travels to Thailand and all the PHENOMENAL street food! They have some of the best food I've ever had in my life, but he forgot to remover the sand track (shrimp intestines) from the shrimp: yucky! Lol. But he's still amazing :-)
I LOVE this guy. I just happened upon him because I was looking for a thai fried rice recipe on Pinterest. Wow, what a find. Just watched him at Pakistan. Fascinating and fun to watch him eat. He's adorable and adventuresome and just a total delight. I'm now subscribed and watch everything he does. Thank you, Mark!
I made this dish the other night and it was the best fried rice I’ve ever had. Very tasty, even without the spicy fish sauce (for those who shy away from this ingredient, and if your new to this type topping sauce add one teaspoon of sugar). I used day old jasmine rice and baby bok choy (so much better than green peas and diced carrot). This dish is sometimes made with pineapple chunks, which I think would be a fantastic addition. All the ingredients can be easily found at the Asian market. Strongly recommend. Thanks MarK!
thai or not but i have been brought up in India and ever since i started cooking this is my go to dish! i make it all the time, sometimes with chicken, prawns or just eggs. A dish i know can never go wrong :)
I did it with chicken.. takes a little longer at the begin because the chicken has to cook more than the shrimp.. so you need to be very careful to dont let the garlic get burned (just keep stiring).. after that is pretty much the same.. really good and easy.
Your recipe is amazing...I really love Thai Prawn or Seafood fried rice...I often have this dish in a Thai restaurant near my house, but it's quite expensive nearly 20 AUD/dish. Today I made it at home for lunch following your recipe and it tastes more than terrific, especially lime & chilli fish sauce. Thank you so much (Y)
Hey Mark Wiens thank you so much for this dedicated delicious recipe. I just made it and my wife & i really enjoyed it alot. The prik nam pla plays a major part in this dish. Thumbs up. Khop khun khrap. 👍
Really tasty recipe. I live in California, there's not too many good Thai restaurants out here so this curbs my cravings. I did notice that using shrimp with heads or without (hard to find whole shrimp) it really doesn't taste any different. Otherwise, really delicious rice.
My family and I love this recipy. This is our second favorite recipe. The Japanase Steak House recipe is our favorite and this is a close second. I will make it occasionally for viriaty.
You're welcome, thank you for watching. Honestly, that's sort of what I was thinking... especially if my wife and I have a child... we may not be able to travel as much, so might do more cooking!
Gonna make this, but substituting a few things since I don't have it at the moment...pork instead of shrimp and nappa cabbage instead of Chinese broccoli. No onion, but won't make a difference since I'm not a huge fan. No fish sauce for the extra bite on the side, but I think I got everything else including day old rice. Thanks for the recipe. 😁👍
Honestly speaking,I find this video of yours to be the best video among all. You cook really well and thats evident from the end result.. So ecstatic. :)
We just got back from Thailand 2 weeks ago. Had some "Thai" food here at a restaurant. It was good, but it wasn't Thai. We got to hold out until 2015, February when we return! :) Thank you for sharing. It's just fun to "be" in Thailand with your videos. P.S. We re-watched Bangkok Traffic Love Story (be sure to pick the one with "Traffic" - the other one is very naughty and we don't watch it - eeeekkk!) and it was so fun. We were there to visit family and ended up celebrating Songkran in Bangkok - blessing friends and strangers with tons of water (and Hong Thog Thai Whiskey). LOL

Karen Cas once I had Thai I never touched Chinese take out again.

Great recipe instructions and I love how simple this was to make-- the tip of adding some rice to the shrimp oils was so key. SO DELICIOUS!
