After hearing all the advice I’ve heard on when & where to apply fragrance-I’ve decided that everyone’s ‘best option’ is subjective . Do what works for you. I’m going to start spraying half my amount fresh out the shower on skin with open pores...2-3 sprays, then let that settle in and hit myself again once I’ve got dressed, or are abt 90% dressed (before I put my jacket or coat on) & am abt to head out the door. That way I’ve got the dry down from the shower spray, and it’s blending with fresh top notes of the 2nd spray. Follow if u want. Like I said, I’ve heard several different point of views & everyone says smthn different
But as he said in the video? Putting on fragrance fresh out of the shower, pores open, in theory sounds like a great idea. But then you immediately cover said open pores.. with clothes?
@@rgtunderworldrgt7773 that’s not how fragrance works-when you smell it, you smell everything. So when you spray it, the base notes are present, even in the opening-it’s just, they’re not in the forefront: the citrus notes are. So by layering the heart & base under fresh sprays, would just beef it up (in theory)
I'm guilty of getting out of the shower and spraying the cologne on my skin. Then when I would get dressed, the cloths would cover it up and suppress the scent. Since I've started spraying after getting dressed, I've had much better and longer performance. I wish I had figured this out earlier but live and learn! Ha ha.
Brilliant interview. Fragrance spraying on clothes is a practice I've used in a long time and it works for weaker fragrance lasts longer. Thanks Ashton, excellent knowledge

Nobody will smell you with 4 sprays only, and guys with 4 sprays complaining about the performance. You need 10 sprays minimum from most of the designers
2-3 sprays are enough if the fragrance is not extremely weak. I received countless amount of compliments wearing just 2 sprays. And even if you don't receive a compliment, it doesn't mean that you are not noticed. Nobody likes a guy who chokes everyone in the room with his 10 sprays of Ultramale. Remember, with fragrances the goal is to lure people in, not to fill the entire room.
I really like he talks about potential adverse effects by skin contact. It's important to be aware of it (even though I do like wear the perfume on my skin 😆)
Fragrance as a deodorant? That's one way to ruin your favourite fragrance by mixing it up with B.O. Like Ash said just use a minimally scented deodorant / anti-perspirant
Will I still be able to smell the fragrance that I spray on my chest/solar plexus and stomach through my clothing? ( I don’t usually wear button down dress shirts;) I usually spray behind each ear and the back of my neck, and frequently go anosmic since most of my fragrances are Eau De Parfum or Parfum concentrations? How can I enjoy the nuances and scent progression throughout the day without going noseblind?
Interesting opininons about how to apply fragances. Will apply more in cloth, back hair and arms. Just wanted the video to be longer, to me it doesn't matter how long a video is, if it interest me. So, waiting for part two. Also like the conversation between two friends.
Yeah the deodorant vs. no deodorant is kind of controversial in foreign countries. In places like Japan some people can be drenched in sweat and not smell at all. I think it has a lot do do with a healthy diet and toxins in your sweat that stink
I think wearing a non smell deodorant would be the best, or no deodorant is also ok. Don’t use deodorant that have a strong scent. I don’t have smelly sweat, at least every people around me say so. So I don’t wear deodorant.
The problems with fragrances is its often diluted with other fragrances that are all ready on skin , clothing, deodorant. We spend sometimes 100.. 125 .. 200 and sometimes over that price wise. Thats why I buy clothing detergent that is odorless..sometimes with the soaps and deodorants. As well . We are all doing ourselves a disservice and throwing money down the drain when we have all these other fragrances around .
I never put on my front as I can become nose blind but also get a headache or sore throat. Behind the ears and neck solves my previous issues but it is fantastic for constantly picking up my own scent trail and testing longevity. Bend drown, stand up or step backwards. Is it still in the air???
See spraying the arms or wrists in the winter is nearly impossible imo. Many of my coats go past my wrist down to the first joint of my thumb, and the fragrance still remains covered by the coat. I go with chest and neck in the winter, just past the elbow in the spring/summer/early fall
And then your scarf 🧣 covers your neck, because u are applying different scents during the week, your scarf will smell like a scent wonderbag in the end 😆 During winter times, fragrance applying is a big hassle 😆
You nention deodorant. What about shampoo, body wash, hair spray/gel, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, etc... We put so many scents on. Are these what affect skin chemistry or its that separate? Should you go scent free on all of that stuff and just rely on your fragrance alone?
If you plans to do more of these can I ask about perfume storage topic? I want to hear professional’s opinion on this. I live in Thailand where temps are 90F (30C) for all day whole year and a lot of people in FragComm(tm) here still said don’t put your cologne in the fridge. I personally detect top note evaporated in a lot of my freshies when stored in my closet cabinet vs. fridge door which keeps my fragrance relatively stable. I appreciated that you actually put your real name in the video. This is great touch from you side 👏👏👏.
It is recommended to keep fragrances housed between 55 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit (12 and 22 degrees Celsius), if possible. See what the highest temperature a mini refrigerator can be set (if they can be turned down so it's as close to 55/ 12*) is what I'd suggest.
Delighted to hear him recommend back of head/hair. Hair is all I ever spray on. Longevity is better. I catch nice wafts through the day without going anosmic. It works. Tried and tested by me. And to hear a perfumier back that up I feel vindicated (after umpteen others saying not to do that)
This video was great because I watched so many “experts” who claim the only correct way is to spray on skin. Hearing him recommend to spray on clothes was nice to hear.
Can you do a video on his Rose Blanche and Vanilla Orchid? I got his sample set and really enjoy those! Or maybe just cover all the ones in his discovery set!!!
I'm so glad he mentioned the number of sprays. Obviously, you should use how much you want to use but the people who stand aghast at the thought of double-digit sprays should shut up! lol
I don’t use deodorants and I apply the perfume as recommend JF plus on my shirt and depending the longevity more or less sprays, and for me works very well. On date same and not only the shirt, the jacket and works. Another thing is true that the fragrances change according to the skin that’s why I can’t wear some lovely fragrances because doesn’t work on my skin. Some people need deodorants and must use those that not have any fragrance.. My 2 cents
I absolutely LOVE Oud Wood but sadly the performance makes it soo hard to justify spending that much money. Usually with fragrances that don't last if I spray them on my clothes and then smell these maybe the next day or in the evening the fragrance will still be on them. Oud Wood and Zara Vibrant Leather have so far been the only fragrances where I've had a lot of trouble picking up anything after a few hours. Even on tester strips OW just doesn't last. Does anyone have any tips on how to change that? Or is there a clone out there with better performance?
