    Every time I watch your videos I appreciate your channel more and more. As someone who has done both WW and calorie counting and has succeeded with both.....I find myself back on WW bc I also need the mental break of tracking the zero point foods. I love that it pushes me to chose healthier options and that's my number one goal over weight loss....health....since I hit my 40's last year. I find more satisfaction knowing I'm putting more whole foods into my body! Also the Healthi app is what I use and they also have the zero point food lists in the database so still don't have to track the zero point foods. I love it. Love love love your channel!

      I think once you hit over 30 your priorities really change. You see the older generation you love struggle with diabetes or heart disease or immobility and all you can think is… I don’t want to be like that. Yes I want to be thinner but I also want a healthy heart and to be able to go up the stairs. lol. Slow and steady for me.

    Wow! Great video, Ams! One thing I struggle with is CONSISTENCY! I’ve done WW and calories, doing a calorie deficit right now…I was eating only 900 calories on WW, but NO DOUBT not eating enough zero foods! You touched on some really important posts! Thanks!!

    I think people are talking about the artifical sugars and artificial butter spray and light butters are low points. These products have been researched and are NOT part of a healthy diet. Thats rewarding for the poison, loll. But each Pearson certainly has the RIGHT TO CHOOSE what is right fir them, just like you choose your coffee creamer, it's low points but is it a healthy option? Everyone has to choose what they are willing to trade off! I agree with you, NOT GIVING UP MY COFFEE! A CUP OF COFFEE DID NOT CAUSE OBESITY! LOLLL. I GAVE UP TWINKIES AND DING DONGS. 😅😅

    • @amsinprogress
      @amsinprogress  3 місяці тому +1

      I think we throw around the word poison too often. I understand where people are coming from but I am not going to eat any kind of sugar for health benefits. If it’s white sugar or maple syrup, my body still will react to it the same and spike my insulin levels. The sugar free doesn’t spike my insulin levels the same way and therefore for me, is a better option. But like I said, no sugar is going to give me health benefits. Same with butter. Do I think fake butter is healthier than real butter? No. Do I think eating real butter is a great way to keep my calories down and give me health benefits? Also no. And we definitely have the freedom to use more zero point foods and use the points for real butter. That’s where I think the education piece could be helpful. It not perfect and your right, my coffee definitely isn’t what made me gain weight. lol. But it did give me plenty of joy 😝 I appreciate you. Thanks for being here.

    As a fairly new subbie, I've commented that you and I share a lot of similarities in our weightless journey....and we do. This includes that both of us are doing the program again, and that the first time "failure" was not WW fault. When I did it the last time I had such a destructive mindset- in short- kind of like you said, I bought the hammer and just wanted it to do it's job and then blamed WW when it didn't work like I wanted it to. What I am liking about WW this time, is that I am taking the time to really try to grasp 'the why' of things as I am learning, not only about foods, calories, points, substitutions, etc, but also about me and how I got here. I have moderate mobility issues now compared to the last time I tried WW 5 years ago...and I even use a wheelchair. This means the fitness portion is almost non existent for me right now. BUT taking my thyroid medications consistently, and switching to 100% honest tracking of my foods means I am now slowly losing the weight! My 18 pounds in three months may not seem like much to many people BUT for me...I am winning the battle! Again, I appreciate you and your channel- you are one more "hammer" in my tool box! lol

    This video was so relatable, thank you!❤ I've done weight watchers twice in the past, 3 months both times, and was successful. When it comes to calories, I'm exactly the same...I over complicate it and switch up the calorie limit every other day because I always feel like it's not working. At least with WW, it's structured so that I don't have to count 0 pount foods so it's less stressful.

    “At the end of the day out of calories but still hungry…” The 0’s stump me every time. Because I don’t know what caloric number I’m at for the day with points. And I know calories in calories out is the only way to lose weight. Don’t get me wrong, I lost 110 pounds on weight watchers and have kept it off over 3 years. I love the simplified tracking with WW. I left WW for about 10 months once I realized I couldn’t shake that 0’s have calories. Tried macros, but it was too complex for me. So I’ve come back to WW, and while there is a level of comfort being back, I’m at a point where I am trying to lose 10 pounds that I’ve gained back but still can’t shake that 0’s have calories. The whole concept can be really overwhelming.

    Great video! As a long time Weight Watcher who has been in and out over many years, I agree with everything you said! If you work the program, the program works. Sometimes it’s easier to blame the program instead of being honest with ourselves, but I do think it can be a very healthy lifestyle, like you said, you are encouraged to eat more whole foods, fruits, vegetables, high protein and better options. Great video! I tried calories and macros for a while. It was tough, but I felt like I have a really good depiction of my overall nutrition and where I stood. That being said, I couldn’t keep up with it for the long-term. I like the simplicity of WW. I don’t track my zero point foods neither do I measure them. My WW past failures have looked similar to this: mon- fri “good” on plan. Sat -we would eat out at restaurants have drinks, etc. I would go over my daily points and into my weekly points if not over them. I’d mentally say “forget it” eat like trash on Sunday and “start over fresh” on Monday. That was not a failure of the program. That was a failure of me, not being honest with myself. My commitment to myself this year has been to track 100% good/ bad/ or ugly. If am negative for the day or for the week, so be it but I track it. Its made me more conscious and careful about what I’m choosing because I will see it on my tracker. I’m down 8.5 lbs since 1/1 so not very fast, but I’m hoping that this will be my last time having to lose this weight! Good luck on your journey!

    Glad you mentioned Healthi. Better Balance is the most like the current WW program. I do Conquer Cravings which gives me a little more freedom in the sugar and fat category but vegetables are the only zero foods. The bites (points) are based on total fats and fiber. A video idea: My goal weight is not in the healthy BMI zone. I'm not sure I can ever get to healthy BMI and maintain it without being in a calorie deficit forever (I'm a calorie person but did WW for years so i have WW mentality, too 😊). I want to thrive in maintenance at some point. I am a newbie to strength training and I have a goal of 10,000 steps for this summer but probably three days a week during the school year. I am also developing a success attitude outside of a number on a scale. My doctor is not concerned because I'm always working on my health. Thoughts on BMI? After all this I i want to be healthy. I've been at this since 2019.

    Respectfully, thru most of April, I would lose a pound then gain a pound. I was frustrated and had a meeting with a ww coach. She asked me to look at the portions of 0 point foods. I did this and realized my eyes were bigger than the portion sizes I was allowing. I also counted the calories and macros I was eating and realized I was eating 1800 to 2000 calories per day!! I eat extremely healthy foods. Steel cut oats w fruit for breakfast. 99 percent lean ground turkey 4 oz surrounding that w ww recipies for lunch. A large healthy salad w black beans and bolthouse dressing for dinner. For me, watching the scale not move is so frustrating that it will push me to quit my program. I also cut my fat down in half. For example 19 g walnuts in my oatmeal instead of 28g. 1/2 oz cheese (full fat) instead of an oz and half a small avacado instead of a whole small avacado. I checked this decrease gives me quite enough fat for the day. I am quite active and get between 7 to 12 activity points a day. I also stopped eating at 6pm and start eating 12 hours later. I sleep much better and wake up rested and ready to go. For me, this is working and I feel like I am achieving my goals. Also, I don't use many of my weeklies or use my activity points. The only thing I wonder about with the slow weight loss on ww is that they are a company who ants to make money so they promote this slow, slow weight loss. I appreciate your videos and the way you use your ww program. I just wanted to offer my perspective.

      I think within the program and even using different programs, we will all have differences in what works for us. I’m happy you have found the combo that works. I would love to be a little stricter or track even more but it always flairs up my eating disorder. For now, keeping it low key is helping me not binge eat.

      You would need to look in your area. There are physical ones. Most people go once a week. They have closed down a good amount of these so research if there is one near you. They also do online workshops which you can tune into and I believe there is no limit at how many you participate in a week. I think they are kind of like a zoom meeting but I’ve never done one so I can say for sure. These options do cost more.

    Hi Amber. Great explanation. Nice job. I have done ww switched to calorie counting. Back to ww to lose a few pounds. It’s very easy to count points I get too focused when I calorie count and focus too much. On every calorie. The question I I have is how do you handle tracking a recipe. Do you enter the ingredients and create the recipe on the WW app. Or calculate the points by the nutrition given on the recipe. Or print out the recipe figure the point value first each ingredient and calculate by the number of servings for the point value. Which do you do and which option is most accurate. I would rather not have to create the recipe on ww. I have recipes that have the nutrition facts. I have recipes on another app which. I use. I just find it too much to have to create those again on ww. Which in your opinion is the best way to handle a recipe for points. Thank you.

    • @amsinprogress
      @amsinprogress  3 місяці тому +1

      I don’t like creating recipes either but that’s what I do most of the time because it is most accurate in my opinion. There are also food blogs like Emily Bites that will give you a recipe and a recipe link so you can use their hard work. lol. That’s my favorite way to do it. 🤭 I try to include WW links on my videos to help out too. I try to look at it as do it once and enjoy it over and over again.

    For me WW is a healthier and mentally safer option. I have a history of disordered eating and even though it's been almost 20 years it's always there in the back of my head. If I'm counting macros and calories I quickly become obsessed and overwhelmed and either quit completely or WAY under eat because food becomes scary and shameful if I'm not "perfect". WW for me is gentle and easy because the only thing i have to think about is points and I have the weekly points that give me a cushion and take that fear and shame away. With thyroid issues and PCOS weight loss is going to be slower for me anyway so I need something I can mentally and physically stick to and even enjoy long term.

    Great talk! I'm enjoying being on WW and it's working, but I think the "chemicals" comment comes from examples such as velveeta processed cheese food thing = 1pt but a regular natural slice of real cheese is 4pts which is unfortunate, and you sort of addressed in the full fat vs non-fat observation. I hope WW takes that into consideration in any future updates 👍

    • @amsinprogress
      @amsinprogress  3 місяці тому +1

      I hope they do too. I agree about the cheese, but there is a large calorie difference for those two things too which goes into it. I don’t know if there is a perfect answer other than use enough zero point foods that you have room to use your points for real cheese. lol.

      I would recommend stop skipping dinner and have a low point dinner instead. You can have grilled chicken, a veggie and corn for no points and be better off. 10lbs is drastic and will prob take your body a bit to figure it out. I also have much slower weight loss if I drink every week. It sucks but it’s true. Best of luck.

    Hardest for me is its more low fat

    • @amsinprogress
      @amsinprogress  3 місяці тому

      I think it depends on what you are spending your points on. There is a long list of zero point proteins, fruits and veggies that you can use and then you have points for those higher fat items. Typically if you are low carb you eat higher fat. Some ideas: Avocado 36gm-1 point, 1 tbsp chia seeds-1 point, using olive or avocado oil is going to be a healthy less point option over something like butter. Choose a full fat milk like fairlife that has less sugar and more protein. 6 large olives-1 point. I might do a video to showcase.
      I have a Fitbit I use to track too but I don’t trust it to be accurate on the calories. I use it to be mindful of my steps. I eat my weeklies every week and I let my hunger decide if I need my activity points. I normally use at least half of them. Hope this helped.

    • @amsinprogress

    • @amsinprogress
      @amsinprogress  3 місяці тому

      Is anyone eating sour cream for its health benefits? I think there is definitely room for improvement like i said but even when counting calories, full fat things are higher in calories. They also do NOT distinguish between healthy fats and "bad" fats. They dont. They have a formula and you are hit hard for fats. Its as simple as that. They wont acknowledge the need for a lower carb plan to accomodate for fats. You are correct that their Diabetic plan is worthless. @@alexrenee7813 I am not saying they use a different formula to calculate points for butter vs avocado oil. The variable is not the formula, it’s the amount of fat and saturated fat in the food item.

      1 tbsp avocado oil is 124 calories, 14 grams of fat, 1.6 grams of saturated fat. This is 4 points and 31 calories per point.
