I have lost count of how many 4010 and 4020’s that I rebuilt in the late 60’s and early 70’s.. I worked for a John Deere dealership in the UK and loved working on the Deere’s. Lovely tractors. Watching this video has brought back some great memories.

Just awesome! As this was my first video, I'm not sure of your son's age. But I will tell you this, he puts to shame most of my friends boys hands down. Great job young man! Reminds me of the days before the internet, cell phones and video games. We all worked with our hands and our minds. A simpler time but to me, a better time.
Gr8 4010 video !!!!!! I have two 4010,s an have served me well an both are still working in hay an winter feeding .Great to see these older models of JD still putting in a day’s work. You all did great bringing the 4010 back to working condition . Really appreciate your hard work an skills .Good camera work as well !!!
I've been doing that type of work around my county for a 35 years and couple observations when you're doing this kind of work it seems like 75% of it is cleaning. The other other notable thing is when you first started up you realize you did a lot of things are right that are not seen by most, which means there's a lot of things that can be wrong. Thumbs up.
Master mechanics at work...good job guys and you too Rhonda...you managed to coax a few words out of em...my experiences around a shortline rr locomotive shop (as here...merely observing)were that when heavy intensive work was ongoing...very little was said....except on occasion when clanging of metal unexpectedly occurred...an expletive or two...and then sometimes a "redo" of long hours of work would be redone...all part of the fun!
Pretty cool watching your boy being so meticulous. What a great skill he possesses! I grew up on a 100 head dairy farm in north west NJ till I was 15 and boy do I miss it, especially working with family and friends. Thanks for the videos.
Great job Ethan at somebody that used to rebuild a lot of engines back in the seventies eighties and nineties you did a great job I like your detail how you do it you do a great job and would make somebody a great mechanic but I'm glad you're staying on the farm and I'm glad you up your neighbor's thank you very much great video as always God bless the whole family stay safe
Quick tip.... Take you 2 bolts the same size as the bell housing bolts, cut the heads off of them and thread them into the block. Then when you are trying to line up the block with the bell housing it will slide on with ease.....
Always such a treat when you show Kevin and the boys, successfully repair a tractor, truck, piece of equipment, I enjoy watching Sydney working so carefully, such a knowledgeable family, thanks for sharing this
I find these jobs rewarding. One thing I did with the head gasket on my 4020 was put a high heat, high pressure sealent around the oil port on the back right corner because they are notorious for leaking oil.
That was great. It takes time but the reward is when it starts and runs. I have a 3010 that needs similar work. Always love these tractor repair videos.
Nice to see the guy’s working together. Not a surprise to see the mechanical they have, without those skills it would almost be impossible to start farming. Kudos to the whole family including MacKenzie.
Im a machinist and I have few recommendations. I hope you replaced the rod that had the spun the bearing and also you should have all the rods resized at a machine shop. They would grind off a little off the rod and cap where the cap fits on the rod and then open the bore to the proper size. This would help to keep the bearings from spinning again. They would also install a new bushing in the small end and open it up to proper size.
I have been watching your videos for a couple months now and this is my favorite so far. Family working on various projects in a shop that isn't immaculate with basic tools and still doing high quality work.
Looks like that tractor is again ready and plenty able to go to the field. If we could somehow just get a re~paint we could get that tractor in the field with a smile on it’s face. Good job guy’s, and know the owner will be happy.
Nice job on this one guys! Those 4010s can be little bit of a bear to work on. Between all those lines that run across the top of the engine splitting the tractor is kind of a pain. Then there’s the 24 V system… It starts on 24 V but everything else is 12 so that can be a little tricky. Then it has that synchro range transmission where the linkage gets a little worn out and it’s hard to shift.. then there’s the steering when it gets air in it and the front wheels don’t line up with the steering motor and you have to bleed it out lol. They are really cool tractors though. Nice job men
Good job 👍 Don’t put lube on the back side of the bearings. You want the back side clean and dry. Safety glasses when cleaning. That’s a mom thing you need to remind him.😉
True that, no lube on back of bearings. It can give you a false reading on plastiguage and make it easier to spin a bearings. Looks like you did a great job cleaning it up.
Good job! I find slings around the engine, attached to a properly sized chain fall and again to the front loader forks provides for a more accurate "landing". Forks up high and minor adjustments with the falls. Very pretty girl.
Nice job by all. Great work Ethan, Master Engine Rebuilder. At the start thought it was Kevin. They sound alike. Thanks for doing the video Ronda. Wonderful film making as always!
Big project. I noticed he oiled the back side of a bearing. I only do gas engines but I don't think you want to do that. Normally only oil the surface going to the crank
New subscriber! Have seen some of your past videos, liked all of them. The most interesting aspect of your videos is that your family members are “ hands dirty, knuckles scraped” involved in the various farm operations. And I really enjoy the fact that you seem to know every tool, piece of equipment, repairs, etc. down to the nearest dollar. Some of the other channels give the impression that money is just free-flowing and there are no concerns. Not very realistic, as most Americans have money concerns. Thank you for that realism in YOUR videos. Do you all do these outside repair jobs as a side business ? Very interesting, if that is the case, of utilizing available resources( tools, shop, manpower, skills) during otherwise slow-season times. Thanks again for some great videos !
