- The Mercedes AMG E 53 falls perfectly in the sweet spot of the the E-class lineup. Under the hood is a 3.0L inline-6 with electric assist pumps out 429 HP & mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. It's exterior is very purposeful without being over done. On the inside you will find sport and luxury all around you. Is the 2020 Mercedes AMG E 53 the BEST of both worlds?

Took delivery of my 2020 fully loaded E53 in late March. Quickly completed the 1000 miles run-in. So far I love my E53 in Senenite Gray Metalic, and most importantly its performance, smooth and fast acceleration.
Did you look at any other cars? I currently debating
that color is LOW key af! silent killer tho. I got the same one with my loaded E43 AMG

@@unfortunatechild So far after clocked in over 14,000 miles and slightly over 3 years, I have no issues with my E53. Real reliable. Over last 13 years, I bought 2 E350, 1 ML350, 1 GLE400, a GLE53AMG, and the E53AMG. Each was driven less than 5500 miles a year. I like best is my E53AMG followed by my newest GLE53AMG. A good balance between luxury and performance
One thing I learned recently with Mercedes-Benz sedans/coupes is : A and C class had 1 line in the headlights, E class has 2 and S class has 3!

Sounds so much better than the E400 convertible that I had. Very nice. Great review. I'm 5'9" & I had someone else that was 5'9" sitting behind me & fit just great. This is one of those convertibles where 4 people can actually fit in it & not get crunched.

Putting mine in sport+ seems to help a lot with tightening the suspension up.

Been thinking about buying one - but even after all of my research, I couldn’t pull the trigger until I got your opinion!
I feel like back then BMW had the performance down and Mercedes had the luxury down but now I think they both might be on par with both luxury and performance.

When I had my w205 c300 I was surprised to find out that I had a regular automatic transmission. The way the transmission shifts in sport+ is like a dual clutch! Mercedes left me feeling very impressed!

Thanks for the thorough review. It would be great if you could also do the E-450 for comparison. Your experience confirms what others have said in calling this an AMG-lite vehicle, which leads to disappointment.

The E63 is a lot more expensive then the E53. If you can afford the E63 then go for it. If not the E53 is a great car.

I like not seeing a console shift lever. I love the paddle shift double clutch.
It is super tiny!
Exterior styling just isn't aggressive enough to me for an AMG... wheels, interior and dash i love though. The body colored roof panel looks so awful i can't believe someone is letting these leave the factory with that, so black is a must for this car.
I totally agree with your points!
The front “enclosed” grills on either side of the splitter are functional. They act aerodynamically to push airflow past the wheels. There’s a gap there at “the black curtains” as you called them. I think it’s important to do some research before making videos and giving “expert” opinion. I don’t like the look either, they perhaps could have used black or carbon smooth ducts rather than the fake grills.
Beautiful car seems like it performs really well but what is that RR logo doing over the speedometer LOL as if I didn’t know!

I was pretty shocked how expensive this was, $90k ? Dang yo! I got my 2018 AMG-GLC43 wagon for @ $30k less. Sharp car nonetheless.
It depends on the options you get. You can get a E53 for less than $90,000.
Do the ridiculous new suv mustang lol if they’re available 😄.... I think early next year is when they’ll be up for sale in America

The vents in front of the front wheels are NOT fake. You said the car did not have a double clutch - Mercedes calls it a "Multi-Clutch". Go figure. Cheers
