I got mine delivered yesterday. Coming from a w204 c63 the difference is tremendous.
Also agree with you. The performance seats don't worth the extra money. Too uncomfortable despite looking amazing. I'm glad I followed your opinion, Thomas.

Lovely car, It's such a pity the estate versions don't sell as well in the US as they do here in Europe, they are so practical and you can also get super sports versions like the one here. Great review guys, if only I had the cash!

Great review - as always Thomas. A very good performance/practicality estate. Loving the new inline 6 engines. I’m 63 now and remember my Dad having an 3.0ltr inline 6 cylinder back in the late 1950’s - they were popular then too. However it only had 105 BHP!

I like how with the comfort mode you can turn any amg to a normal mercedes as well. No need to use all the power all the time. I also like the animosity these cars bring. Hard to differentiate a E53 with a normal E200 with led lights and amg line when he is in your rear window.

Great Review. Many thanks. Loved the driving part as usual; and excellent driving, Thomas. At 20:20 acoustic warning 'too-keen' and in a quiet cabin when the driver is driving calmly, that can give passengers a sudden fright - not relaxing! "That looked like real fur!" Glad the manufacturer offers a choice, and this full-spec E53 T-Modell would make a good second or third car for the very rich, but agree, too expensive; and comfort is the name for an E-Class - instead perhaps a normal engine and seats, and spend money on air suspension and extras? 41:26 you got a brief steering alarm for some reason!

Wow you realy made me fall in love with this car. I was looking forward to buy the new 2020 E450 with the same engine. But in terms of price i think i will buy the E53 from 2019. Yes i know it has no MBUX and its cool functions, but i think it gives me more value for the price. Most of the new stuff from the MOPF E-Class is not that interesting for me, because i would rarely use it.

My next automobile. It's sad that estates (wagons) are so unpopular in the United States. I hope the inline-6 mild hybrid m256 engine proves durable and trouble-free.
Great review as always. The E estate is my favorite wagon of all time and in my top 5 of vehicles to own. But I have to say, I do really miss the jump seats. That was a very appealing and cool feature.

This is an amazing review, it is fair and balanced, which is hard to find for a Mercedes product. If you are considering buying a W213 (E Klass) watch this review, then buy one of your own. I have seen SO many Mercedes reviews from people who do not understand the brand, it is clear the reviewer understands the brand and what the customers of the car are wanting. I got a chuckle out of the “Diamond Pin” grill. In 1958 Buick had a similar design. They called it their “Fashionair Diamond Star” grill.

I really like the looks of the Mercedes E estate....I think I like it as much as the new BMW 5 Touring (while I'm a BMW man)....
Stanley makes nice tape measures ... and not all that expensive really. Calculators have also come a long way since the abacus if you are still using one.

I dont understand why car manufacturers have such a hard time on giving real exhaust pipes? All they have to do is add 4 centimeters of steel and it would be done.
Depends. It does have a negative impact on fuel consumption and engine performance if the pipes are either too narrow or too wide. Too narrow could lead to back pressure levels that are too high and thus put more (unnecessary) stress on the engine, as the pressure coming from the manifold would need to be higher. If the pipes are too wide there could be issues with packaging, airflow(underbody) and the disposal of exhaust gases. The issue is more that the designers and customers want big pipes, as these sizes would be too inefficient the engineers and designers would rather have the exhaust blends. A solution like the one that the R35 has is about the best you could do imo, have the pipes exposed and use the blends more like a mantle around it. But yeah, it's actually more of an issue than you may think.
It’s mainly to reduce repair costs in a rear end crash. Damage to exhaust pipes can easily double or triple repair costs for a minor fender bender.
If you release throttle on eco mode the engine completly goes off and the electric generator holds your speed until you press the throttle again. I think it's a cool thing for fuel saving. Because like you said the car is very expensive and during the first years you'll pay a lot if you pay it monthly. That's why you may not have so much money left for fuel. This is a cool really cool option.
Please don't switch to the imperial system. I'm American and really wish we would switch to metric; it's sooo much more efficient! LET'S GO!!!!!

I would say most people using United States customary units think in terms of feet and inches. A foot is more relatable than some great number of inches, as a foot is not as readily divisible into inches as the metre is into CM. It may be that those in the U.S. automotive industry speak in terms of inches, but I can pretty much guarantee that the majority of your U.S. and American audience will relate more readily to a feet-and-inches format than to an inches-only format. Remember, you Europeans learn maths in school, but we only get the one math.
Also, I don't know why, but it's funny to me when you bust out an old-school folding rule in the middle of a video. It's just such a German thing to do. As long as Germans are concerned about accuracy, everything is alright with the world. :)

I agree. While 36 inches sounds longer, 3 feet makes for easier understanding so feet + inches and metric are a great coupling.
i tried to build this in canada, and there isn't a e53. only a e400 biturbo and a e63s. and the e63s is over 100K CDN. these cars are beautiful and would be a dream to drive, but the cost is prohibitive. also, the sport seats do not look comfortable. thank you again thomas. great youtubes always.

Not a fan of the wraparound fake taillights in the rear door . Hopefully there is a matte or matte wood option for the dash to reduce glare in the windows.

Isn't that called Rack and Pinion Steering...when its tight and precise? Which is my favorite. That steering wheel really has like an over steer..I call that loose steering.

I’ve never seen the attraction of coloured ambient lighting. Not sure I’d want my expensive car lit up like a Kebab shop. Subtle white lighting maybe but not coloured.
You can have whatever colour you want. Combined with the multibeam leds, the glow ( not glare) of thr ambient lighting reduces night time eye strain to zero for me.

I thought mercedes dropped the smaller 8 inch screen late last year. Even base models come with duel screen displays as of December 2018.

Americans use inches to measure the length of a car. We also use cubic feet for trunk/cargo capacity. No need to convert to feet.

Mercedes have always had tacky elements. Lame fonts, cheap silver plastic etc. The new jelly cars aren't better.
The Germans used to have a great love for large white plastic knobs and switches also. Even on very expensive cars.
AMG used to be so special 15+ years ago. Something for the connoisseur. Nowadays, Mercedes is milking those three letters like there is no tomorrow 👎🏻
I think design wise its a step backwards. Design reminds me more of old mercs, previous version looked more modern.
Impressive car but I agree with you, too expensive. I would rather go for the Estate 450 4 matic and use the difference in price for options :-)

What is that sound change under full acceleration right before redline? Is it a resonance with the camera microphone? If not, sounds quite annoying. It is as if you suddenly increase the (fake) engine volume for half a second and reduce it again to normal levels right after shifting. Who likes that?!
Well its strange, when accelerating, the microphone automatically reduced the volume to very silent, so i had to level it up

It's so daft that MB UK don't offer the bucket seat option, on anything below the 63. Very unfair.

As an American, I prefer the inches measurement. Going past 7 feet really loses perspective for me.
A random question, but do you know why Mercedes do not produce the E43 AMG anymore? And does that mean, if you already have the car that it would be much harder to get it fixed and get your hands on specific parts?

Thomas, can you solve many argues about front brakes between e43 (53) and e400. What is the real difference (technically) between those two?

Thomas: I think Americans would find it most comfortable to have dimensions reported in inches only. That's how our car magazines report them (e.g. 194.5 inches length, 117.4 inches wheelbase, etc.).
