  • A tutorial on some basic and easy tasks in SewWhat Pro (SWP). Included are: 1) Printing a template of a design, 2) saving an image file from a stitch file, 3) saving merged designs as separate patterns for later editing and 4) using the stitch simulator. **Additional helpful tip below, click "Show More"**
    ***Since this video was made, the EXP format now allows for saving merged designs as separate patterns as well as PES and VP3.
    Here's an additional tip that I neglected to include in the video: When printing templates, if you set your printer to draft mode when you print templates, you'll save a lot of ink. All you need is to be able to visualize the design. You can also print in black and white to save your color ink if you have a separate black ink cartridge. To set to draft mode and/or black and white only, click the "properties" button on the window that pops up after you click "print", at the top of the resulting window, click the "paper/quality" tab at the top. Both of those settings are in that window.

    Thank you!!! I have been using SWP for months and follow very closely on FB and never knew about the "save as a single pattern" box! I HATE that little box! lol I always tried to finished editing designs in one session because if I saved them it was torture to re-edit. I can't believe I never saw the box. You've made my day and the box will remain unchecked!

      +Gillian Todd Yeah, it's easy to overlook something like that, isn't it? That's why I wanted to share some of these "little things" that often get overlooked when learning the software. That little check box has totally changed the way I use SWP, and it sounds like it has for you as well! :-)

    Great vid Mya. If you plan to make more, I recommend using Camtasia by Tech Smith. It is a screen capture movie naking software that will allow you to do cleaner software movies, zoom in on parts of the screen etc.
    this vid was helpful

      If you watch videos I have made more recently, you will see that I am using a screen capture method. What I am doing for those didn't cost me a penny and I didn't have to download/install any software. I am glad you found the video helpful.

    Is there a way to add density on this program??? or is that in sew art??? I'm new to both and my designs turn out good I just wish the letters would have more filling

    • @myatwesten
      @myatwesten  7 років тому

      Actually there are adjustments for density in each program. In SewArt, it's the Separation setting for fill, and the Length setting for linear stitches. In SewWhat Pro, this video will help you, it explains what density and pull compensation are and how to adjust them both: ua-cam.com/video/52ze1udvog0/v-deo.html&feature=share

      That's ok, I am glad to help where I can! If you are on Facebook, you might be interested in joining a group that is just for SewWhat Pro and its sister programs. You'll be able to read previous posts as well as ask questions there. There are a couple of groups, but I recommend this one. It stays on topic (just questions about SWP, not general embroidery questions). facebook.com/groups/300970506906155/ If you need help with general embroidery questions, there are also many groups, some of them geared toward your particular embroidery machine. Hope this helps!

    Thank you for this video it's very informative. Where can I purchase sew what pro? I just subscribed and am looking forward to watching more of your videos.

    • @myatwesten
      @myatwesten  7 років тому

      Hi Maris. SewWhat Pro can be purchased directly from the developer. The price is $65, and that includes lifetime updates (you don't have to pay more later when the program has new features added or enhanced). The website to purchase is: www.sandscomputing.com click on the shop button at the top, and click on SewWhat Pro.

    Thank you very informative. I just got my SE400 today and need all the help I can get. Do I need to get embroidery software? If so, Any recommendations?

      +isabellabellisima This video is showing how to do some basics in an embroidery program called SewWhat Pro. You do not NEED to have embroidery software in order to stitch on your machine, but if you want to do anything personalized, change the way a purchased design is, etc. then yes, you need to have software. Having a good editing program will open up a whole new world of creativity for you. For the money ($65, one time fee, includes lifetime software updates), it's a very powerful, yet easy to learn program. There are many tutorial videos like the one I've made, and a fantastic user group on Facebook, here's a link to it. There are many experienced users as well as people who have just gotten into embroidery. Everyone is helpful and friendly! There is a free trial of the program. It is the full program, not a "watered down" version. You can use it for 30 days or 60 clicks of the "save" or "save as" button, so download when you'll have time to play with it and learn, and use your saves wisely. Hi Fab video. ~Only one thing , when I save as , my option for checking box or not is greyed out. Have you any solutions i am using Version 2.37

    • @myatwesten
      @myatwesten  8 років тому

      Thank you Bev! I'm glad you find the video useful. In order for that box not to be grayed out, you must have at least two files merged in the hoop. If you just open a single pattern and do things like resize, rotate, or change colors, you will not have the option as there are not multiple patterns in the hoop. I would really suggest updating the program (which is free). They've added a lot of new features. Current version is 4.1.6.

    • @bev2951
      @bev2951 8 років тому

      Hiya Mya, I've just tried what you said and its not working ? Ive also tried to upgrade and its telling me there isnt an upgrade available. Do you think its cos its so out of date? lol

    • @myatwesten
      @myatwesten  8 років тому

      For updating, sometimes the "autoupdate" doesn't work. In this case, you can uninstall the program, download the newest version from the website (don't add to cart, just download using IE, Edge or Firefox and install. Your registration info *should* stay in your computer's registry, but it's not a bad idea to write down the info anyway just to be safe. Go to the Help menu and click "about sewwhat pro". Your registration number and the name it's registered to (exactly as it appears) is what you would need. Without being able to see what you're seeing or doing, it's hard to help further. I would suggest trying to update and see if that takes care of the problem. Also, only VP3 and PES have this option available. Let me know what happens and I can try to help you further.

      @myatwesten  8 років тому

      +Eileen Eck If it's not understandable to you, you either are not a user of the program the video was made for, or you are needing more help than this video provides. I would be happy to try to assist you further, just tell me what portion of this video you are having difficulty with. There is also a fabulous Facebook group where you can look up answers to questions and ask a question if you don't find the answer in the posts.

    • @eileeneck3696

      +Mya Twesten By not understandable I meant the voice was not clear, and spoken too quickly.

    • @myatwesten
      @myatwesten  8 років тому

      +Eileen Eck Well, I'm sorry you're not understanding the material covered in the video. Perhaps you don't have very good speakers on your computer, which can affect sound quality. The beauty of tutorial videos, is that there is a pause button so you can play just a little of it at a time and you can watch them as many times as you wish. I have had several comments from people in a Facebook group I belong to that this video was very helpful to them and they had no issues understanding. I've offered to help you with points you aren't understanding, that's about all I can do.

    Can someone show me how to rotate the hoop in sew what pro

    • @myatwesten
      @myatwesten  7 років тому

      Hi Deborah. You just choose the other orientation of the hoop from the hoop selection box. Open a design in SWP. Click the green hoop icon on the toolbar. Where you might have say 5x7 selected, select 7x5 instead. This gives you vertical vs horizontal. Obviously, for 4x4 or other square sizes, there will only be one selection since it's the same dimensions both directions.

    checking to see if this is a good program, SUPER NEWBIE HERE, does anyone recommend, for a nice expensive program. Thanks

    • @myatwesten
      @myatwesten  8 років тому +1

      +Saundra Houston I have had SWP for a couple years now, and I absolutely love it. There are many videos to teach you how to use the program, their customer service is outstanding and there's a couple Facebook groups where you can ask questions as well. The program does everything I've ever needed to do to an existing embroidery file. Download the free trial and give it a try. Yes, there is a learning curve, as there would be for any program. For the price, you can't go wrong. Your purchase allows you to have the program installed on up to 2 computers simultaneously, and you also get lifetime free updates to the program. The trial gives you 30 days or 60 saves (clicks of the save button or using "save as"). Be careful you don't use up all your saves too quickly!

      Thank you, I think I'm going to purchase it in a few weeks.
