    This video was very helpful. Could you do a video on "freestanding lace" in sew art? I love freestanding lace designs but I can't find any videos that show you how to create your own in sew art.

      Hello mytae: Per S & S Computing, the creator's of SewArt, you cannot do FreeStanding Lace designs in SewArt.

    I have a question on the stitch mode. How can I make an edit on the angel so when I embroid my design when I add the foam on stitching it won’t come out flat. Meaning I want my design 3D pop out

    • @myatwesten
      @myatwesten 6 років тому

      Hi Raul. Changing the angle of stitching is very simple, it's right there in the settings when you go into stitch creation mode for a fill stitch. The default is 0, but you can change it to whatever angle you want. I don't believe that this is what you are looking for in order to do 3D style stitching over foam. The angle is not what does this. I am not a professional digitizer, and I have not studied designs that are meant for foam underneath. From what I understand though, these are done with satin stitch, not a fill stitch. Fill stitch is going to stitch in the middle of the design through the foam, which is going to cause the design to be flattened. You would really need to study and research how those designs are made in order to recreate them.

    Thanks for the video. What does "join threads" actually do? What threads are being joined?

    • @myatwesten
      @myatwesten 7 років тому

      Hi Michael. The check box in the save embroidery file dialog box, when checked will join all of the adjacent same color stops when the embroidery file is saved. So if you are working on a one color design and there are 5 different sections that you've digitized separately, when you save it with that box checked and then open it in an editor, there will be only one color stop. They will all be joined together as one color stop. To see this first-hand, digitize a simple design that is all one color, and has 2 or more sections. You would need to use manual stitch creation, rather than auto-sew, I believe. When you save it, leave that box checked. Keep SewArt open, and then open the design in SWP and see that you have only 1 color stop. Go back to SewArt, and save it again with a different file name and uncheck the box. Open it in SWP. You should see the same number of color stops there were when it was digitized. Having them separate is useful for being able to change colors of different sections of a design, changing the stitch order later (in SWP) or being able to highlight one small element of a design for editing or for adjusting its placement. Once you are satisfied with the design, you can join threads in SWP for stitching if you wish.

      Hi Susan, without being able to see your screen, it would be very difficult for me to try to troubleshoot your issue. Are you a member of the Facebook group listed in the description (may have to click the "more" link to see it)? If you can post a screen shot of your program there along with your question, I will be able to help you further. You can leave the group afterward if you wish.

    At last, I’m understanding the process. Very helpful and informative. However, when I bought my machine (Janome) I received a free editor CD. Would it be possible to transfer the SewArt image into another editor or do I need Sew What Pro? Many thanks.

      I am glad that you found the video helpful in learning how to use the program Vanda. You are welcome to use any editing program you wish, but I think you mean to open the stitch file in another editing program, not the image file. An embroidery editing program cannot open an image file.

    Do we have the keys to the serial number? Can you give me?

    • @myatwesten
      @myatwesten 7 років тому +8

      You have to purchase the program to get a serial number. It would be illegal and immoral for anyone to share theirs with you, and just might make their own program not work. If you want to use the program beyond the trial period, buy the program and you'll get one.

    What's the difference between SewArt and SewWhat Pro please?

  • @iggyreilly2463
    @iggyreilly2463 5 років тому

    Hello and thank you for your series of excellent tutorials. I am debating whether to purchase SewArt or EmbroideryWare. Which do you prefer and/or which do you recommend to someone brand new to embroidery?

    • @myatwesten
      @myatwesten 5 років тому +1

      Hi Iggy. What program I prefer really isn't important, what program YOU prefer is! Both programs have a full-featured trial. I would suggest using the trials of each, one at a time, at a time when you can give each program your full attention and a fair chance to learn what they can do. The biggest difference between the programs is that SewArt is auto-digitizing software and EmbroideryWare is manual. With manual digitizing, you will have greater flexibility and control. View tutorial videos on both to see what the capabilities of the programs are. If you are really interested in satin stitch, EW will probably be your best option, as SewArt does not do satin well and at last check with the developer, there were no plans to change the program to improve that function. As with any new task, start out simple and work up. Don't try to do a really complicated design with either program right off, or you will become frustrated and confused. Both programs have Facebook groups where you can ask questions.

      @@myatwesten Thank you, Mya. I really appreciate your thoughtful and thorough reply, especially re. satin stitch, something I intend to use frequently. I have also learned that manual digitizing often (though not always) has better results but can be quite time-consuming. I have followed your advice and have downloaded the trial versions. It's likely I will be choosing EW but I want to give them both a try. Thanks again, you've once again been very helpful.

    After buying a pretty good embroidery machine for my wife I got exited when I read about SewArt. I have spend the last two days with SewArt 1.9.4 and I can't believe they actually sell it as a viable package. It is buggy, it is useless as an editor, not even the copy and past functionality works properly, no object property editing and even throws away your designs after spending hours editing it pixel by pixel and that is just to start off with. It has potential so lets hope version 2 is actually usable but for now, stay away and don't waist your money!
