I try to be realistic about what I am capable to fit into my life NOW. And I am working more towards waiting for my life to tell me I need an object. I have a new hobby which involves new clothes, craft supplies and some other gear, so I am trying to approach it in a minimalist fashion - what is the minimum amount of gear that will take care of what is needed.
I'd get another vinyl player! 😁 I have been a minimalist for over 20 years and one of the things I like most about it is how much more I enjoy the few things I keep!
Definitely get a new vinyl player. The point of minimalism is to have the things that bring you joy and serve you. You said it yourself that you love music! ❤
I live in the U.S. and I quit buying breakfast cereals. They were expensive and loaded with additives and empty calories. I seldom buy any prepackaged foods at all and i've saved a lot of money!
Totally agree with fabric softener! Nobody needs something like that. For me, it's a completely superfluous product - bad for the environment, bad for the washing machine and bad for your clothes. Apart from that, there is nothing that smells better to me than laundry that has been dried in the sun.
How can you keep clothes and towels soft without using fabric softener, I use fragrance free one, I honestly wish I could skip this step but my clothes get static when I do so and my towels get rough, Please help : )
Massive one you don’t mention is alcohol. Another is, when you do need to replace an electrical item, such as a washing machine, go for a basic one without all the fancy additional features x
I also quit smoking this year. I also quit energy drinks and fast food like mcdonalds. It got too convenient when tired from work but wasnt helping with the fatigue long term.
Minimalism is about focusing on what is important to us. Music has been and still is a huge part of my life and I don't plan on letting go of my turntable and lp's. My vote is to replace the turntable. Also congratulations on quitting smoking. Best decision ever!
Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪 Firstly, very well done for giving up smoking (it's one of the best things I ever did, for both my health & my pocket) & secondly, without question, buy a new turntable!!!
For your hair get balayage less often. Twice a year is great, spring you get full balayage and fall you get face framing and bigger sections in between the spring ones. My take as a hairstylist.
Organic is not a marketing scam, it contains less pesticides and doesn't produce as much vegetables (for example) as non organic, which is why the price is higher. Buying organic is better for the environment and our health. That being said not everyone can afford to buy everything organic, including myself.
There are places where you can get organic products that taste so much better than their non-organic counterparts, such as farmer's markets or the producers themselves.
Hey, horticulturalist here. Organic containing less pesticides is actually a common misconception. Organic labelling has no regulation on pesticide amounts, just that only organic pesticides are used. Organic agriculture uses around the same amount of pesticides as conventional agriculture, and often organic pesticides are worse for the environment because they are not selective and will kill everything rather than only target species.
more than organic, I prefer to buy from my local farmers at the farmers market, i do believe this makes a huge difference. Farmers market produce tastes a trillion times better.
I am a musician. And although I tend to be quite minimal, I will never not collect my music scores and music books. They bring me joy. If you feel the same way about your vinyls. If they are not just for decor, and you actually listen to them and appreciate them, then I think I you should get a new one!
Great video. I'm on a no buy for clothes, shoes, handbags and jewelry. I gave up an expensive Starbucks habit years ago. I have a multi use old fashioned looking piece that pla6s radio, vinyl, cassettes and CD's. Don't use it much because Netflix is my new addiction.
If quitting a habit feels hard and you keep falling doing it again. Just don’t stop. For example I used to smoke a lot. I did try to quit many times, but couldn’t. Then I made a decision that I won’t ever quit it again. I just decide not to smoke this one occasion. So I can smoke if I want, but I just decide not to. So I’m still smoker, but I have decided not to smoke for over 14 years. First 5-10 years were harder, but I still managed to get through them without smoking. For me this goes with everything.
Yes, I very much agree with this! I'm just not successful when I tell myself I can't ever do something again. It's too restrictive and I will sabotage myself. I used to smoke all the time, and about 5 years back, I chose not to smoke this one time, and the next time, and so on. Gradually, the time since my last cigarette got longer and longer, but I still carried a pack and a lighter on me, should I decide to. The day I threw out a mostly-full pack, which had gotten crushed and stale from living in my purse for an entire year, was the day I knew I had taken back control. So yeah, I allow myself to smoke, I just rarely ever do it.
I don't buy clothes or shoes other than underwear. If you take care of your clothes and shoes and they are of good quality, they will last a very long time. I don’t buy new dishes, I have enough of them and I simply don’t need new ones (although sometimes I go to such stores and look at beautiful plates, but that’s where it all ends). Instead of a bunch of cosmetics, I now only buy good quality skincare products, because... I have rosacea. I haven't bought souvenirs for a very long time. And I stopped (almost) buying indoor flowers; if I want new ones, I exchange them with other flower girls. What I haven’t stopped buying yet are self-education courses, quality food and water, skincare products. If I were you, I'd buy a new record player. This is your passion. It brings you pleasure.
Hi Irina! I would say self-education courses, quality food and water isn't really a spent but a great investment. I'm with you and I would do the same 🧘♀️ Thank you for your insightful comment 🥰
As a mother of 4 I do most of these, apart from what I need as a parent. I need a car, a dryer when kids are sick and we need to wash and dry sheets and blankets. We have an iron and ironing board for my teenage sons and husband. I still have my hair straightener but won’t replace it. I cut my hair but my kids go to a barber. I try not to buy them junky toys. We do have Netflix and Disney for the kids. All the rest, I do in our home.
Fabric softener also decreases the lifespan of a lot of fabrics so it's a double whammy. I would say though unless a mattress is designed to sit on the floor (most western ones are not) a proper bedframe extends it's lifespan by several years. Apparently it causes it to sink more rapidly and keeping it on the floor will often void the warranty!
I stopped reading actual books, and that was the biggest mistake I’ve made. I’m going to invest in getting books again because there’s nothing like happening in your hand and stimulating your brain so that one for me was actually my mistake to give up
8:30 Get another vinyl player! The beauty of having physical media is that YOU have control on what you curate and own. I almost sold my turntables and records (former DJ) when I was decluttering. What stopped me in the end was the realisation that many of the records I currently own that are close to me are either not available on these music streaming platforms or they can be removed at anytime and you can't do anything about it. Yet you're paying a subscription to listen to it. Many people are realising its not worth paying monthly, so there has been a resurgence of buying physical media which is starting to drive the prices of this classic technology up. My turntables are worth more now second-hand than when I bought them new 20 years ago.
Congratulations on quitting smoking! My vote is to sell your vinyl. A really good upgrade for music to my ear is speakers with wooden housing. Hard to find, but the sound is warmer.

Thank you for video, I understand your struggle with vinyls. I myself torture between collecting new books for library (they might be sold out or get more expensive later.. so when I'll be old I'll just read them and give to my grandchildren 😅)... And being minimalist (books are bad for trees 🎄, I'll probably only read it once and then it will collect dust and occupie places, and they're hard and heavy for moving from one flat to other, I don't even have my own house 🏡...) So yeahh I'm torn appart and try to get some advices in minimalists videos 😅😊
I quit drinking alcohol 14 years ago, quit smoking 13 years ago and quit drinking coffee 2 years ago. I drink water or red tea (coffeinfree by nature) instead. I feel so free 🌿🌺 I have been a minimalist for 7 years. The sad thing is that my adult kids and my other relatives do not agree with me. They have turned their back on me.. think I am crazy. But I feel good anyway
It looks like you have been through quite the journey to intentionality. It's ok that not everyone sees things like we do. What matters is that we live a life that makes sense for us 🙏❤️
@@BeaMinimalista Yes. The attitude of my relatives/s k friends, made me buy ticket and book room in south Europe. Been out for 2 months, came back just to have a pointment with my doctor. Next month I travel south again - staying the winter season. All I ever own now, stays in 2 suitcases... Maybe getting rid of more stuff, before leaving
Great list. Enjoy your vinyls! You love it. Check buy nothing or used to see if you can get lp player. Most I do but loved cloth towels, things on sale, out to eat and drink unless it's a cultural or live music event. Smoking is a HUGE savings especially in the US
I’m getting rid of so much stuff right now and losing patience with marketplace waiting to get rid of it. Ut be piles up so it’s stalling my getting rid of stuff. So much stuff is from hubby bringing it from other places as it was given to him or his bad shopping habit. Great for you to have quit smoking. It’s been 10 years for me and it was death waiting to happen.
For the record player. Have you look to see if any store near you offers repair services? I find some tasks to be easier to do for me when I have the option of music. Like taking a bath or washing dishes. So If vinal music brings you joy, then get out an replace or repair your player so you can get back to enjoy the small things again :)
Definitely! But unfortunately because there aren't a lot of people specialised on it, especially in Portugal, the cost for fixing is much, much higher than replacing. There's of course the environmental impact to be considered here too but maybe a nice cozy cafe might use is for decor or someone for props. Loved the "for the record player" 😂 Thank you for the laugh!
@@BeaMinimalista I hope in the future that it will be easier and cheaper to repair our quality goods :) But until then, we can have a bit of fun (and a lot of frustration) trying to find the items that fit us the best. Good luck on your record player hunt
Great video- thankyou! I prefer ultrathin pads and period pants. I hate the feel of tampons! I only have 2 very small boxes and a bag of Christmas decorations. I love driving so car stays. 😊 You've given me food for thought though on how I can cut back.
Record player - since you are wondering about, maybe live without it for a month and see how that is for you. I do have a small iron as it can be important for sewing.
Hello Bea! I just loved this new video, it's never cliché and the part about quitting smoking is so valuable, not every minimalist on the web speaks about this (and I watch a lot of videos about decluttering). It would be amazing to know your cleaning product recipe ;) Can't wait for the next video!!!! Great job!!!
What I've discovered from this video is that Women live in a different world to men when it comes to stuff. I'm a 55 yo male and I'lve always lived like this.
I love this video. I also do not buy 99% stuff from your video. I really need tampons. I cannot live without them 🙈🙈. I have capsule wardrobe so I do not buy clothes very often. I have a problem with grocery shopping. I will buy food for 7 days but...after dwo days I want to buy some snacks or takeout. After that I am angry about myself becouse I spent money for food I do not needed. 🙈.
Another vinyl player. It’s possible to buy second hand and imusic is naturally a great way to lower stress, increase oxytocin, dopamine, serotonin. Whilst sat here listening, I cleaned up my social media. I rarely use, and only keep it for managing a volunteers group. I did turn off all notifications to everything so the desire to see anything isn’t there. I also removed the icon from my screen, now I’ll need to go searching for it. I’m very intentional with my tv, not watching any. However I play games at times and use Netflix more than I now plan too. I’m happy to say I live very minimal. Your video on lowering sensory intake seeded this comment. Oh, I also deleted all my UA-cam history, so the algorithms will not present temptations. I’d love to see how you manage your finances, as in structure. How many accounts, how you track, what ways you keep that minimalist, like credit cards etc too. When you have free time and the temptation is to do screen time, do you have a list on the fridge of preplanned things to do so there’s no thought, just pic and do it? Love your videos.
Thank you so much Ruby! Such a nice comment and tip on UA-cam history! Gonna start doing that as well. Those are very relevant questions and I will try to answer them in future videos ✨ thank you for your feedback. It means a lot 🥰🍀
First of all I loved your channel. +1 sub. Me and my wife are on the same vibe, when we moved to another country two years ago we packed everything in two bags each. Some things are harder and we tend to get attached, I used to have a 200 movies collection, it's kinda useless on those streaming days, so I got rid of it, it was like your vinyl's collection, at first I thought it would be harder but it wasn't. Almost forgot, congrats on quitting smoking 👏👏👏👏
If your vinyls give you pleasure, then buy a new player! Minimalism is not about depriving yourself of the things you love and that improve your life. Many congrats on giving up smoking, as you get older your body will thank you! (and your bank balance is thanking you now....). I am trying to give up impulse buys - I made a list not long ago and it added up to a fair amount. I was cross with myself. I gave up buying perfume some years ago. I am sensitive to smells and didn't like the idea of the chemicals sinking into my skin.
I think you should get a new vinyl player. You clearly love listening to music; and, vinyl records sound so different than music being played on a different device.
How often did you listen to your vinyl before your player broke? If it was at least a few times a month, I would say replace it. If not, I might declutter your vinyl (although even just typing that hurts!).
Get a new vinyl player- music is life. You said it all with your face when you said the player had broken; it must’ve broken you a little too- Enjoy the music that aids in your emotions daily.
I don’t buy any magazines and I don’t wear much make up so when I buy it it’s basic for if I need to wear make up. But I do buy way too many books and need to stop and read the books I have first. Maybe get yourself a portable record player, they’re not too expensive and can be stored away when not using x if it’s something you love and use regularly then u should replace it x
Right! If I would ever get a new one, it would be a small one. This one was quite big because it was quite old too. I loved it but it definitely took too much space. I also have the same problem with the books. This year, I'm not getting any and will try to finally finish the ones I have 🙈🙈
Your clip is on my feed randomly on the time I'm trying to declutter all my stuff.Your video makes inspiration! But only one thing I can't stop buying is Beer! hahaha :) .
Por favor, get the player! Vinyl is unique, it's special, & adds immeasurable value to your life! That's what frugality & minimalism are all about! Spending & owning what brings value to you! By the wat, irganic isn't a scam... here in the USA, especially produce is loaded with unsafe, harmful pesticide-covered, unhealthy ingredients... organic just means that it's unaltered from how God intended it to be! It's actually how people ate long ago & was the norm for all people who eat
Hey Bea! I just discovered your channel. It’s very interesting, thank you so much for posting this to the world, your tips are great. I have one tip for you! You can remove make up with coconut oil, and you can condition your hair with some water mixed with apple vinegar. It smells funky if you don’t wash it out properly so rinse wel. Also I also use oil for my hair but I add some essential oil for fresh smell and additional care. I live on a small sailboat, no fridge no computer, no shower even. And no storage space! I’m curious about the organic fruit and veg scam? Could you enlighten me or do you already have a video on that? Thanks for posting and sending good energy your way. XEva
Thank you so much for the tips! And congratulations on living so minimal! I think that that is a topic that falls a bit outside of my channel but there's this other channel that does an amazing job explaining this: ua-cam.com/video/8PmM6SUn7Es/v-deo.html Hope you like it and thank you for watching ☺
If you truly love listening to your vinyls, you should get a new player. The fact that you left so much behind but find this so hard only proves how much you value it. Don't fight it, just enjoy it.
Hmmm I would say buy another vinyl player since being a fellow music lover myself I do have some/a lot of DVD's but, if you do decide to get rid of your vinyl collection it might/would inspire me to ditch most of my DVD's. i probably should myself so that way when I move to another country I wont have to take it with me or have it sent to me. Congrats on 5 years of not smoking!
Plants are my weakness too 🤭 I'm doing a no buy year this year, so I'm not allowed to buy plants. Honestly it requires a little self control but I'm happy to take care of the ones I have atm and spending more time in nature. I quit drinking alcohol 14 years ago, quit smoking 13 years ago and quit drinking coffee 2 years ago. I drink water or red tea (coffeinfree by nature) instead. I feel so free 🌿🌺
I have been a minimalist for 7 years.
Smoking is a HUGE savings especially in the US
Do you have a video explaining how you make your own cleaners and what products you use to make them?
I’m getting rid of so much stuff right now and losing patience with marketplace waiting to get rid of it. Ut be piles up so it’s stalling my getting rid of stuff. So much stuff is from hubby bringing it from other places as it was given to him or his bad shopping habit. Great for you to have quit smoking. It’s been 10 years for me and it was death waiting to happen.
Congratulations on your 10 years smoke free! 🤍🤍🤍
Sometimes it's not worth it trying to sell items. If it's an expensive item, fine,if not donate it. It will be worth it for your peace of mind 😊.
Congratulations on giving up smoking 🎉🎉 I really enjoyed this video, I also sold my car and my expenses got almost cut in a half 🤯🤯
Thank you! 🤍
I know right? My gradma used to say that a car is just another mouth to feed and it sits with us at the table on every meal. It's crazy!
4 years 4 months smoke free too. 🎉 congratulations!
That's amazing 🤩💪 congratulations on letting go of smoking too!
Thank you for these inspirational thoughts, minimalism at its best.
That's great! We should always have what brings us joy the most.
Happy that it gave you inspiration 🥰🥰
congratulations on five year of smoke free!
Thank youuu 🤗
Record player - since you are wondering about, maybe live without it for a month and see how that is for you. I do have a small iron as it can be important for sewing.
That's great advise 😉
Thank you so much 🥰🥰
Uhh, that would be a cool idea for another video :)
Get another player. Or at least keep the vinyl for now. You'll regret it later if you're not 100% sure. I know !
Money isn't the main driver for me just like you but I enjoy almost every thing you said and do it too. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Sue 🤍
Can you share some grocery saving tips? I live in the US and my grocery bill is out of control. Thanks!
Great ideas on saving money. I am with you for a lot of these. Definitely get a new vinyl player!
Get another vinyl player! Music sounds so much better on the organic vinyl verses digital media. It’s worth it!
I agree ☺️
I quit smoking 20 years ago just do it❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ buy your player you will enjoy it
Congratulations 🎉👏💪
Congratulations on living a smoke free life. I quit over forty years ago. Horrible expensive addiction.
Oh wow! That's so inspiring! Congratulation 💪
Congratulations on 5 years. Well done.
😊 thank you 🙏
Hey! Would really love to hear why you don’t buy organic food..
There's a really nice video and channel explaining a bit of the why:
ua-cam.com/video/8PmM6SUn7Es/v-deo.html
Hope it helps!
Excellent list. I would love to see a home tour.
Uh, that's a great idea for a future video! Thank you 😊
Ooooohh.... I'd get another record player; no question. I could never live without music and the sound on vinyl is.... incomparable.
It sure is 🥲🥲🥲
Hello. I´m writing on a borrowed phone. Keep improving and you´ll get there.
wow watching this made me realize how frugal i am.. cause SAME!!! 😂
I think you should definitely keep the vinyls and get a new player. 😊
let's see 🥺
Get rid of them. If it’s not a hell yes, it’s a no!
Get another player or get it fixed. You enjoy the vinyls. Keep them.
Thx you you are imasing!❤ can you please tell me where your closet is from?
Vinyl player and my favourite albums are better than spotify subscription :)
I think you should get a new vinyl player. You clearly love listening to music; and, vinyl records sound so different than music being played on a different device.
🤭🙈 maybe after my no buy year. Let's see 🫣
Buy a new vinyl player!!! Music gives me life!!!!
🎶🎵
Just get a second hand vinyl player that works 😉👍
How often did you listen to your vinyl before your player broke? If it was at least a few times a month, I would say replace it. If not, I might declutter your vinyl (although even just typing that hurts!).
I think this is exactly the right question to make here ☺️
Where do you usually shop for clothes?
Get a new vinyl player- music is life. You said it all with your face when you said the player had broken; it must’ve broken you a little too- Enjoy the music that aids in your emotions daily.
Aww, that was sweet. It's really tempting to get one again. Let's see if I really miss it. Maybe a smaller one to it doesn't take that much space 🛸
Congrats on 5 years!!
Thank you Tasha 🥰
Get another vinyl player! If you love music, the value it brings to your life is worth the expense.
Hi, do you know if there is an app for a capsule wardrobe?
I don’t buy any magazines and I don’t wear much make up so when I buy it it’s basic for if I need to wear make up. But I do buy way too many books and need to stop and read the books I have first. Maybe get yourself a portable record player, they’re not too expensive and can be stored away when not using x if it’s something you love and use regularly then u should replace it x
Right! If I would ever get a new one, it would be a small one. This one was quite big because it was quite old too. I loved it but it definitely took too much space.
I also have the same problem with the books. This year, I'm not getting any and will try to finally finish the ones I have 🙈🙈
I didn’t know reusable pads were a thing!!!! I want those for sure bc I hate spending on pads and stuff.
😊 yey!
Please keep the vinyl... please!! Luv, Nige from South Wales x
🎷🎺
Your clip is on my feed randomly on the time I'm trying to declutter all my stuff.Your video makes inspiration! But only one thing I can't stop buying is Beer! hahaha :) .
Aww, thank you so much 🥰
Eheh, I also relate a bit when it comes to craft beer 🤭
Muito obrigado. Eu gostei. 👍😄
I think that that is a topic that falls a bit outside of my channel but there's this other channel that does an amazing job explaining this:
ua-cam.com/video/8PmM6SUn7Es/v-deo.html
Hope you like it and thank you for watching ☺
@@BeaMinimalista thanks I’ll have a look :)

Thank you!
Ufff... Why is this so hard? 🙈
What about your plants? I keep wanting to buy more plants then later difficult to care for or not much room in apartment.
Plants are my weakness too 🤭 I'm doing a no buy year this year, so I'm not allowed to buy plants. Honestly it requires a little self control but I'm happy to take care of the ones I have atm and spending more time in nature.
If you want to hear more about this, maybe you would like to watch this video too 😊:

Buy a second hand vinyl player. It will give you joy.
Tempting... 👀🫣🫢
I hope you get another vinyl player. There's no equivalent.
There sure isn't 🥲
