  • The Femme Fatale is one of the most popular tropes for women in works of fiction. These characters have defied social norms and have fascinated viewers for centuries. Femme fatale characters were created as cautionary tales. But ever since cinema became a popular form of entertainment, dangerous women on screen would be prevalent, all inspired by real life events of changing gender norms. I look into the history and evolution of the femme fatale, and whether or not this trope is empowering, or sexist.

    My favorite femme fatale line is from "Body Heat," in which Kathleen Turner says to William Hurt: "You're not too smart, are you? I like that in a man."
