  • Tteokbokki is the most popular Korean street food. There are tteokbokki stands everywhere in Korea. The rice cake is chewy and coat with spicy and sweet sauce. People make tteokbokki at home but they don’t taste like from the tteokbokki stands. In this video, I give you three reasons why homemade tteokbokki doesn’t taste like from the stands.
If you used rice cake to make tteokbokki and feel like your rice cake is not as chewy as you had in Korea, it’s because what you actually ate was flour cake, not rice cake. Flour cake is thiner, softer and chweyer. Most of tteokbokki stands in Korea use flour cake. I like flour cake tteokbokki more than rice cakw tteokbbokki but my husband and son like rice cake so I use half and half.
I also share my recipe of crispy seaweed roll, gimmari. Gimmari is like the soul mate of tteokbokki. Deep seaweed roll in tteokbokki sauce and enjoy it.
My easy and fast tteokbokki recipe will make you feel like you are in Korea.

Very informative and interesting to watch video, thank you! ☺️ I tried making it once with gochujang, however it tasted quite strange - so I will try this.

they prefer the wheat type. that's likely what is served in street eateries in korea.

Yes. Many of street carts use wheat rice cake but some of them use rice type too. Thank you for watching my video!

I once made it from a recipe with just peppers, but it tasted terrible. I used two different brands 😢

I’m sorry to hear that. Did you grind your Korean pepper power? It’s very important to use finely ground Korean pepper power. Corse pepper powder doesn’t work. Also use good Korean brands pepper powder from Korea. It’s also important to add the two things I’ve shown and mentioned in the video. Hope my recipe can help you.
