Capcom is 100% at fault. We've done everything. We've bought MM11, we've bought the legacy collections, we've bought the Kotobukiya model kits, we've bought the art books, we've bought games that were made in the vein of Mega Man, we've developed fan games, we've bought and read the comics, we've done EVERYTHING. There's nothing left to do on our side. We have money to throw at it, but they won't give us money to throw at it. At this point I think Capcom needs to just let go of Mega Man and sell it to someone who will work with this IP.

Crazy as hell that we’re in a world where Sega is actually gonna give us new games for Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, and Golden Axe, to name a few, but Capcom just will not do anything with Mega Man despite the fact that there are clearly people out there that still love these games.

Not just Mega Man, I can't see Capcom making new games for some of their old games like Dino Crisis, Final Fight, Star Gladiator, Rival Schools, Commando, Gun.Smoke, Captain Commando, Strider, Cyberbots, etc.
They've focused mainly on their big franchises that have been huge hits worldwide, like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry and Street Fighter

@@pablocasas5906 Some of those, I get at least. Good as they are, games like Rival Schools and Captain Commando never got a lot of traction at the time of release and are only really remembered by people who played them back in the day-or in the case of Captain Commando, if you really liked MvC2.
But Mega Man was a Capcom mainstay and breadwinner for actual decades. I get they have other series that exploded in popularity, but that’s because they didn’t get like a row of games cancelled all at once. It’s insane to me that, outside of 11, the newest Mega Man game I can think of is a mobile spinoff.

@@SoggyHotDoggyI cited some obscure and old Capcom games because I think they have the potetntial to get revivals, in the vein of what SEGA recently announced. In fact, back in the early 2000s, Capcom tried to revive Gun.Smoke as a new game being developed by Angel Studios, the same studio that managed to port Resident Evil 2 to the Nintendo 64, they went so far as to sent one of Capcom's main artists, Akiman, to the U.S. to make concept art, but in the end Capcom cancelled the project but let Angel Studios to keep the IP, and they were later acquired by Rockstar and that Gun.Smoke revival became Read Dead Revolver, which its sequel became Red Dead Redemption, so that means that Capcom have plenty of old IPs that could become huge AAA franchises

I wouldnt say MM is dead, but rather CAPCOM isnt striking while the iron is hot. Tens of millions of people, myself included, bought that NT Warrior Legacy collection, so clearly people love the series and the franchise in general. A smart person wouldlve had a new game ready and waiting in the event that the number of units sold for the Legacy collection was positive. They couldlve had something ready to show in the Gaming Awards so the Idea of Megaman stayed in our minds in the New Year. Not to say that cant still happen, but why drag their feet.

I feel like they don't understand that Mega Man can still give them profit, so long as they stick to a reasonable budget. MM11 works because it was done in that manner and sold really well. Plus, when you tihink about it, Mega Man is like the Metroid of Capcom now. It can still ring profit based on the circumstances of that franchise.

That's backwards logic. Companies are not unhappy to miss out on cash, they're unhappy to pour in millions of dollars and only be treated with entitlement, that the investment should be a public service. As if "just having a game ready" is nothing.
They invested in the past to put all these creatives together, to create and HAVE these briliant IP's that they can now preserve and spread to NEW audiences. That's the whole point of owning something, that it keeps makng money. But the same West, that created this overbearing "intellectual" property economy of usury, now says that monetizing somthing you own is LAZY. That you should conjure up more and more investment money until the probablity of investments failing reaches 100%.
If you like the idea of a title being created ONCE, and then the company just keeps working steadily for ever and ever for a pipeline of new iterations, to have "a new game ready", that's been done. That's the basic economic model of USSR and China, and that's also how art and science grants by governments keep non-profit work going on.

The problem with companies is that they don't want to invest. They want guarantees which means a very narrow, formulaic system.. It's impossible for every game to be a banger. The problem isn’t if megaman makes money, it’s if it makes more money than capcoms other products
Capcom has a lot of franchises. Many of them have been dumped even though they were well liked or possibly made a profit.
At the end of the day, capcom will put more resources in monster hunter, resident evil, and street fighter because that makes the most money.
The other franchises they’ll throw a bone once in a while, or in the case of project justice about three decades.

    • @pablocasas5906

Don't forget about Devil May Cry. I think the main problem is that, in the last five or so years, Capcom has focused entirely on the development of AAA games, leaving aside the development of smaller titles like Mega Man or Ace Attorney. It's very different from what other companies like Square-Enix or Bandai Namco have managed to do, i.e. making big and smaller games, and a total opposite from what Konami has managed to achieve in Japan with Momotaro Dentetsu (a low budgeted title, based on an old IP from Hudson Soft, that has managed to sell millions of copies)
Street Fighter is an interesting case, since while the series is the most famous fighting game of all time and it sells quite well, it doesn't actually sell as much as other games like Mortal Kombat or Tekken, but Capcom has succeed in reviving the brand and with 6 it seems they have managed to attract both a hard-core and a casual auidience. Though sadly, outside of some hardcore fans, Darkstalkers never had enough fans to guarantee a new game, and very few companies can actually maintain more than one fighting game series, even Namco has put less emphasis on Soul Calibur, and instead they have focused primarily on Tekken. Only SNK seems to be able to make multiple fighting games (KoF, Samurai Shodown and Fatal Fury), though that's because out of all the games they used to make, people associate SNK mostly with fighting games, and they even admit that they want to diversify their repertoire.

It really seems that Capcom, and most Japanese developers that aren't Nintendo, SEGA due to its recent announcements and Square-Enix, do not care about that much about developing smaller games, instead focusing only on AAA games maketed for the West. The same thing happens with Namco in that they just focus in big franchises like Tekken, while other games like Pac-Man or Klonoa being relegated to having remakes, while other franchises like Ridge Racer haven't had a game in years. I know that these big companies like to prioritize big game that will bring in millions of copies sold, but they should diversify their ouput with smaller titles and try to revive some old titles. The one thing that gives me hope is that Capcom's investors specifically asked:
    1. Are there going to be more collections after the success of the BN Legacy Collections?
2: What's the future of the IP
Capcom mentioned both the success of MM11 and the LCs as well as the fact that Mega Man is one of their "historic IPs". They even said that they're considering how to approach future projects, meaning that the interest and plan is there. Also, the fact that the investors want more Mega Man means they pretty much have to at least be aware of the demand.
I think it's a mixture of COVID slowing down work and Capcom's risk-averse model of pumping out RE and MH non-stop to support them during COVID. I mean, the BN Legacy Collection was supposed to be announced much earlier than it actually was since it was supposed to coincide with the series' anniversary. It seems like Capcom is still lagging behind in terms of their non-AAA IPs since it's been all hands on deck for the last few years.
I'm confident that there will eventually be a new, original Mega Man game. I just don't know if it will be soon or in the next several years. Depending on if Taisen got canned or not, we could be waiting a hot minute for the next entry.

Thing is, this also rises the question of why Capcom didn't have any foresight on what they would do with the series if MM11 was a success, specially since Mega Man's comeback was the main selling point of that game. Mega Man 11 has done 1.7 million units over the course of 5 years since its release. That's good sales numbers for a Mega Man game, but not exactly hot numbers for a _Capcom_ game. The numbers are comparable to the brand's Legacy Collection releases, and when you factor those in 11 does _not_ look as sterling. 11 months out from release, 11 had sold 1.3 million across all platforms. By comparison, Battle Network Legacy Collection broke 1.42 Million this past October, with a much shorter gap of 6 months. It doesn't matter if 11 is notable for being a top seller for Mega Man, because Mega Man doesn't really sell when compared to Capcom's more recent brands. Resident Evil 4 Remake released this past March, and by July it was reported to have done 5 million. Monster Hunter Rise hit 4 million on launch week alone and the latest numbers estimate somewhere around 16 million sales since launch. Mega Man can't even beat Street Fighter 6, which has only hit 2.47 million since launch despite its presence!
Plus, the brand is on its _36th_ anniversary. Much of the base has long since aged out of being Capcom's main demographic. New ventures also haven't went so well, from Fully Charged getting both the runaround as far as distribution _and_ the veteran fans very much being against it, to X DiVE being regularly described by veterans as a predatory cash grab. I would even say that even 11 hasn't went well, because I'm at least 80% certain that the bulk of its sales happened during discount periods, which should be troubling on top of the fact that the game launched _at_ the price point of the collections. So, comparatively weak numbers, comparatively weak profit even against the collections, I don't see it as too much of a surprise that Capcom isn't making the games that the fans want.
Now, I know some will say that the fault still lies with Capcom because they aren't making games, but if there is any one thing that has proven true over the company's existence... It is that Capcom is a very reactive company. Mega Man Legacy Collection's sales figures _were_ cited by Tsuchiya himself as a boon for Mega Man 11, but 11's relative failure might've made Capcom wary of looking at the other collections in the same way. Or worse, they decided that the next mainline entries would only be collections because their actual, all-new major entries aren't doing so hot. While we don't have X DiVE's actual sales numbers, its reputation and the impact it and the NFT stuff inevitably have on X DiVE Offline probably makes it a dead in the water thing as far as sales go, unless the modding scene _seriously_ picks up with what they can do with X DiVE's engine. Also if Capcom somehow doesn't decide to lock the game down as a response like they've done almost every other major PC release of theirs... _Thanks for that, Street Fighter._

Well, Capcom doesn't advertise Megaman games as a must have games, unlike the RE series and Street Fighter. Both R.E and S.F have somehow changed the formula while retaining core gameplay, meanwhile Megaman is exactly the same ans Capcom expects people to buy megaman games? Lmao.
The last megaman game that changed thw formula were rhe Zx series. At least they tried something different

@@Yokai_Yuri A problem is that even mild variations don't trend well with the veteran fans of Mega Man, which is why I named it as part of the problem. Legends despite posthumous popularity is a dud sales-wise. X7 is a meme, Xover didn't stand a chance, and people think X DiVE Offline is still a gacha despite that part being completely removed, and I regularly see people demanding vengeance for the fallen, as if Capcom is the only imaginable thing to blame for why so many games ended up cancelled.

You know, on the topic of the Legacy Collections...I was HOPING that Capcom would make a Mega Man collection based on the semi-obscure Game Boy games...but in color!
Sure, they seem like just shrunken-down ports of the NES games existing at the same time, but some of them (mainly III, IV, and V) have their own unique characters and bosses: the Mega Man Killers.
Yes, I know they were going to do that in the GBA days, but since they cancelled it then, they could remake them now on a new engine for the Switch, PlayStation and Xbox!
Do they not know how much money that would make them...or how many people would smile when they get to play these games in a new form?!?
Heck, even Mega Man Maker cares about the Game Boy games.
Maybe we can even get the fabled Mega Man VI (6) made just for a nostalgia trip?

I’ve been a fan of the series since i was a kid playing megaman zx on my ds and, yeah, i love how the legacy collections gave me an opportunity to discover the games of the series i didnt have the chance to play, but we gotta move forward, we need capcom to treat megaman as his other ips, one or two games a year, if we want megaman to get his long awaited revival. Capcom surely tested the waters with the legacy collection, but now it must make the bigger step forward, actually revive in modern terms the series, continue on the path they started with megaman 11

People that want a high budget next gen Megaman, you're not getting that not without some major compromises because if they want to blow a lot on this franchise, they're not making a 2D game, they're making a 3rd person shooter Megaman possibly an over the shoulder 3rd Person shooter, at best, you're getting Ratchet and Clank, maybe Zero May Cry but at that point they'll just make DMC6. I suspect it's because of that, Megaman is stuck in limbo, everyone is probably going to war in Capcom with how to bring this franchise to the modern age. If Capcom really considers Megaman as a tier 1 franchise they will not waste Megaman to make a AA game even if they will make a AAA game later on. But even if Capcom doesn't consider Megaman tier 1, I still don't think they can make AA games for it because I don't think they want to make AA games.

I played the first Mega Man at age 2 and grew up during the series' golden age. From MM1 to MMX4, the games' core gameplay remained very close to perfection, and by then the amount of MM games was already very high. I did enjoy 9, 10 and 11, but they were totally based on that perfection from the early 90s. The attempts to "innovate" with the later X series completely failed, and I doubt they want to take that risk with the regular series. It's either "more of the same" or trying to fix what's not broken, so I kinda understand why they aren't cranking out MM games. Also, it's a pretty refreshing idea that a super popular game series actually comes to an end. I hate how people just expect every franchise to go on forever, with younger people not even playing the earlier installments. I used to be a big fan of Metal Gear 1, 2 and the first three "Solid" games, but then it got out hand - now I don't even want to know how many games there are under that banner.
The Zero and BN titles also kinda repeated themselves enough times already. As for Legends, I think the 2nd one was a noticeable step down, as the charm of the first one was its atmosphere and other immersive qualities. Legends 2 didn't feel like a connected world at all, just a collection of different types of "levels," and the story wasn't great, either. I don't think Legends 3 is a sure bet, it could easily be screwed up.

I wouldn't want BN6 since they have definitively ended that series, but a Battle Network Zero would be nice.
Like, Star Force can be looked at at "Battle Network X". Much like Mega Man X did for classic Mega Man, Starforce took what Battle Network did and updated it to the standards of the DS era.
So a new Battle Network would take that next step much like Mega Man Zero did to build on what Star Force gave us for an even more modern take on the series.

About a year ago, some internet sleuths found that Capcom had updated placeholder domains for "Mega Man 12-15". Of course that doesn't mean 4 more Classic games will be made, it's just a standard copyright practice, but it's pretty much what's kept my hope for a new game alive. A myriad of perfect opportunities have come and gone since... Capcom presentations of anything but Mega Man, a quiet acknowledgement of Mega Man's 35th anniversary. I thought maybe it'd come once all the Battle Network Collection/XDive promotion was out of their system, nada.
You make some great points, but as a jaded lifelong Mega Man fan, I'll believe it for 2024 when I see it. We'll probably just get another collection before anything new 😅

One thing I've learnt from beloved franchises continuing too long is that it's never good. I've learnt that from dragon ball, street fighter, guilty gear and mortal kombat. Megaman franchises has a properly written lore and conclusion, at least till the zero series. The only thing it lacked was a proper link between the classic, x and zero series. Best to leave it that way because if they tried to revive it in this toxic age, they'd 100% have their own agendas and ruin it. They'd try to be too clever and retcon established stories, add overpowered spotlight hog characters of their own creations like a 12 year old fan fic writer, or at any rate try to appeal to todays generation whos tastes are never good. Best to leave it be.

What MegaMan is lacking nowadays is innovation. Don't get me wrong. I loved MegaMan 11 . But remember back in the day when the super Nintendo came out? Capcom blew us away with MMX. Then we got to experience MegaMan's first transition to 3d with MegaMan legends. And then there's the zero series which was like MMX but different. Fast forward 2018 after the franchise had been lying dormant for years, Capcom decides that we need another MegaMan 2. Capcom should move on and do something new with the guy instead of popping out MegaMan 2 clones all over the place. At this point everybody is kinda sick of classic MegaMan tbh. We want that trademark Capcom innovation we used to see decades ago. Or even just another X game would save the day.

They don't sell anymore. If they want to make Megaman relevant again, they should re-invent the wheel for the franchise. One example is making a combination of Megaman BattleNetwork with Pokemon GO. So you play on your mobile and make your own Navi, and fight "viruses" on the streets. You could also duel other players to win a random chip from their deck or whatever.
If they want to use more material, they could have players buy chips with QR code for their phones to scan and use in-game.
And this is just BattleNetwork, there's a lot that can be done with the rest of the Megaman series.

Which is a shame because mega man has a lot of potential stored in his vault but Capcom just refuses to do anything with the character. I imagine that if they attempted an animated film similar to the Mario movie they could regain a lot of the success mega man used to have back in the old days.

I was a MM fan when MMX , MMZ and Battle Network were all still getting new entires, but people just didn't care. I feel like that continues to this day. They only care when they can blame a big company for not giving them something. Negativity is what keeps people happy, not new games.
