Simone Simmons is the lead singer from the band Epica and you just did one of their songs -- "Rivers" that featured Apocalyptica. This song is the lead single from her new solo album. I don't know when that album will be released. It was done in conjunction with Arjen Lucasson, who is very well known for his Ayreon collaborations (now that is another rabbit-hole for you). She is characterizing a dying sun, in its last moments before going Nova (the cool animation at the end where she disappears into light). IMO. the women who front metal bands have some of the best, most powerful voices around. There are so many to explore.
Simone's album is named 'Vermillion' and will be released on Aug 23, by Nuclear Blast

I suggest you listen / watch songs and videos from Epica (the band that she sings in), Nightwish and Within Temptation. You won't be disappointed!
Now we have to need patience and wait for the album to come out. If you mention that the choir part is ritualistic, I had to think of the word saganism, after NASA-scientist Carl Sagan - not a religion but cosmology (seems the album will dive into cosmological themes)

You can really tell Arjen Luccassen was involved here. I get what you are saying about that middle eastern sound, but I actually think it more accurately just carries a certain Ayreon vibe that runs along that current as well and its often similar but not as 'middle eastern' sounding. I think he just likes those kind of patterns within music.
Amazing solo release from Simone. She is staying true to the music she became famous for. Some hot metal singers tries the mainstream industry. That is rarely doing well. Arjen Lucassen is the genius she collaborates with here. You need to check out his work called Ayreon. There are so many talented singers from the metal world singing a character in these story format double CD albums. Many can be found live on UA-cam with high quality production because it's part of DVD release. Latest one he released as a promo for his latest DVD is "The sixth extinction". You will never see a video with so many great singers on the same stage. It might be too much in one go, but that is what we love about reactions anyway. Give that video a try 🙂

Ayreon = Arjen Lucassen who produced the solo-album of Simone Simons .. and he is the mastermind behind the Ayreon project which is a project that tells musical stories on an epic scale heavily influenced by fantasy and scifi. He assembles a cast of vocalist with the best from the progrock and metal scene, plays most of the instruments himself on the records. And then he decided, after years of having said it can't be done, to start to do select liveshows ... they only happen in the Netherlands in one venue but people travel from all over the world to be there.
