Studios on Brickset brickset.com/s...
Despite the low quality of the images, I instantly recognized the attempt to recreate the scenes from the first bionicle movie. You and your brother did a pretty good job.
I think this is probably one of the most influential LEGO Themes over the past 20 years. That may sound a bit strange, but think about it. After the release of LEGO Studios, many brickfilms (or LEGO animations, as they were known back then) have been made. A couple of years after LEGO Studios ended, various websites like Bricks and Motion and Brick a Brack where created and the brickfilm community we know now has been slowly rising at this point in time. And now, it's a large and quite collaborative community and absolutely incredible brickfilms have been made over the past 7 years or more. While yes, the camera quality of LEGO Studios was bad, but with it, many people made quite astonishing brickfilms for their time. I'm not actually exaggerating when I say that the clips I saw from some of the animations made with LEGO Studios are actually quite impressive, heck, even brickfilms that were made without Studios, note that these animations were made without the usual animation or editing software a lot of people use now a days, are amazing as well. And to give you some little interesting facts about the LEGO Studios theme, check out this video by sillypenta discussing the importance and major impact this little theme left. Here's the link to the video ua-cam.com/video/7O2oPYJh1bs/v-deo.html I hope you enjoy this documentary of sorts, and be sure to check out the other episodes from the History of Brickfilms series.
OH MY GOD, THE BACKLOT! That's the game I mentioned in the last part that I always played on LEGO's website back in the day! It's a shame I never got to experience LEGO Studios for what it was worth, especially the Spider-Man sets. I wish I was born earlier...
Hub Pie bionicle
Thanks so much for making these, they fill me with so much nostalgia. I don't think I would be where I am today making videos for the LEGO Group if these sets hadn't inspired me to get into stop motion in the first place.
Studios was a fun concept that I wish Lego could revisit today. My favorite sets from the line are the Monster sets. They're pretty cool and a lot of them hold up today, that lab in particular.
@DCTO473 I WILL LOVE AND ADORE if LEGO STUDIOS gets remade and they do a remake of all the Monster Sets!!! I LOVE MONSTERS AND CREATURES SO MUCH!!!!!!
@@JaredMadnessCaineLaw48ft What about the Backlot game, or at least it's concept, as a full fledged TT game?
@@Drac0blade16 That's an amazing idea!!!!!!

*_TAKUUUUUUUUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA_*
2:39 Even though I loved the Studios Spider-Man sets, I feel like I should be glad I never knew that Jack Stone style set existed.
I had a childhood neighbor who thought Jack Stone was the coolest thing in the world. We were already like 7 or 8, I was already more into Bionicle at the time.
5:00 me... ☹️
Another theme that passed me by when I was younger.
Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a Lego can, can he swing from a web? No he can't, you have to put the web on his haaaaand, here comes the Lego Spider-Man.
I know that the spider man studio sets were made mostly for the first raimi film, but tbh I think movie sets like that would be perfect sets for Mysterio. Given his background in film and illusions, I think sets of this nature have him written all over it and could have some interesting potential. Just an idea
nick can I just say I love these videos. they're so...relaxing with ice planet 2002 being my favorite. keep it up
Sure you can.
For myself, and likely for a lot of other people, the reason The Lego Ninjago Movie didn't work like The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie did was because, despite it being in a different continuity from the TV show, plenty of the humor was based on references that you would only get in you knew the show, such as Zane being a robot, and they didn't go much deeper than references. That, and The Lego Ninjago Movie didn't explore territory that hasn't been explored in animated movies before it or have the big ideas of the other two. The original Lego Movie was about the value of creativity, while The Lego Batman Movie was something of a deconstruction-reconstruction of the mainstream idea of Batman, using that as a springboard to look at how life with other people can help overcome grief, though in a pretty light way. The Lego Ninjago Movie didn't really have that; it just had Lloyd and Garmadon in a take on a Luke Skywalker/Darth Vader-type story with the rest of the characters as window dressing. The Lego Movie 2 seems like it will have big ideas again, though given how they are expected to deal with gender differences in how boys play with toys versus how girls play with toys and how they perceive each other when playing with toys, unlike the previous films, those big ideas might potentially come at the cost of alienating half of the audience. If Lego is going to make movies based on its original themes, then both Lego fans and non-Lego fans are probably going to have to accept that they probably can't be much more than toy ads like people were afraid the original Lego Movie was going to be. Maybe some of the themes can be mined for emotional depth and insight, but it would take a really special mind or two to bring that out in one of the themes. Phil Lord and Chris Miller probably could do it with one of the themes, but movies that are spinoffs of the main Lego Movie series aren't likely to have Lord and Miller as anything more than producers because of them not being as big of priorities to Warner Bros. as the main Lego Movies or even a Lego DC movie. Again, a movie based on a standalone Lego theme that has the emotional depth of the main Lego Movies might work, but it's a long shot. I sometimes mull over how a Bionicle movie might work nowadays. I think of it as possibly being a motion-capture film co-produced by Warner Animation Group and a studio that specializes in motion-capture. However, I also think about how Bionicle is drastically different in terms of tone from pretty much every other Lego theme, with humor not appearing much outside of occasional dry comic relief and the violence being actually pretty intense, only mitigated by the fact that most of the characters look like robots. It would also be hard to choose which elements from the franchise to put into the movie, given how they have ten years of Gen 1 material and two years of Gen 2 material to choose from. It probably couldn't be marketed the same way the other Lego movies are. Maybe Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, ironically also being written and produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, will dictate how successful a Bionicle movie could be when it comes out this December, as that is going to be an animated film that has comic relief moments, but is mostly a superhero action movie. If Spider-Verse breaks bank at the box office, it will probably open the doors for other animated films that aren't necessarily comedies, a Bionicle or Bionicle-like movie included.
I had this, and we made so many silly little films with it. 9-year old me eventually made a 2-minute film, which we sent in to a popular nationalwide Saturday morning TV-show. I couldn't believe my eyes when they actually aired it!
(The show had used Lego Studios to promote stop-motion animation a year or so before, though... Despite the fact that TV-advertisements directed specifically to kids are illegal over here.)
Hehe, YAY!!!
Interstingly enough, I'm actually writing a Bionicle fanfic based on this sub-theme
what is it about?
The Jack-Stone Spiderman-
WHAT IS THIS HERESY!
2:39, 5:09 Yeah, The Lego Ninjago Movie was sadly the beginning of the end for the LCU. Which meant that Lego would move to Universal. #RestoretheWBLegoVerse.
I have the Spider-Man Lab C35 set and it was the first "big" lego set I ever got. I was like 5 or 6 at the time and I still have the Spider-Man and Green Goblin figures to this day and I'll never get rid of them. Glad to say I have Marvel characters from before Marvel was a huge thing. Ah so many memories.
Also I just recently discovered your channel thanks to my brother and I love these memory lane videos!👍
I love how much flare was in this line. Boxes of drinks, spare men with boom mics, little jeeps to move a long the lot. The sets themselves were so busy and came with so many accents, it was great!
I will always love Brickfilms. I tried to make a few when I was younger but I never made anything all that good. But the visual style is absolutely timeless!
Another great video. Love this theme!!
Thanks. Hey, I recognize your icon from that stream Eljay recently did.
Ah, the another set my parents out right refused to get me no matter what. They handed me an actual digital camera instead, but what I wanted were those boss looking tectonic plates with the buildings. So much potential for disaster porn right there. Ah well. I suppose some things just weren't meant to be.
They just don't get it.
Unless "The Lego Ninjago Movie" does well on DVD and Blu-Ray, I fear it won't make enough, especially based on it's current box office numbers.
yeah just hope Ninjago as IP won;t take too much hit form it.... it would be terrible to see another strong IP from LEGO falling apart(don't even ask why i say another... YOU KNOW)
Wait... is that the main menu music from Spider-Man the movie game? Oh my god that gives me flashbacks
I do stop motion on UA-cam for fun
You can still play the backlot but last time I played I had to do some complicated downloading and accessing archived webpages. I got it to work but I don't remember how.
Oh my fucking god I thought I dreamt that game up once. It looks so bad in comparison to Lego racers and Lego island 2 that I just didn't think it could be real.
Really liked the LEGO Studios line. It is a shame has poor the LEGO Studios camera quality was though. But I think the camera would have been far too expensive, perhaps. Some very cool sets within the Studios theme.
Which figure is Sam Raimi?
Simply the absolute best LEGO related video playlist on UA-cam. Thanks a lot !
Recently I got invested in the Studios monsters and am looking forward yo buy the figures.
A lego adventurers movie would be cool...
RIP chrome spears
3:09 I can't believe my whole childhood I never knew this one existed!
I completely forgot about backlot! I use to go out of bounds and run until the game crashed
Studios was hands down the most influential theme for me growing up. As a kid I was very interested in dinosaurs, especially Jurassic Park and Disney's Dinosaur. I asked my aunt for a Jurassic Park 3 set for Christmas 2004 and I got the Spinosaurus one. Years later I watched a lot of UA-cam Brickfilms and made one when I was 12. Bottom line, Lego combining two interests of mine: Film and Dinosaurs has since influenced my career as a person in the industry now.
I too made stop motion movies with Bionicles. Didn't think many others would come up with this, too. Glad there were some that did.

My hopes and dreams have never been crushed so mercilessly...
WHY YOU DO DIS TO ME???
Cause people keep asking for Exo Force every time I release a new episode for some reason. It almost makes me wonder if they just won't watch any more once I've covered that line. I'll do it in episode 8, though.
Nick on Planet Ripple I myself asked for this, although it was in the first video. I'm gonna watch them all but I'm not gonna lie, I'm excited for Exo Force the most. They were fantastic sets.
I noticed half way Into the video that your background music is from Spider-Man 1 the video game.
Lego could bring the Studios back in some cool way. As for the Lego Ninjago Movie or Lego Batman Movie movie maker sets, never did see in store or find out how to get hold of one? Other then that Studios could be redone maybe, say if Lego was to do a Lego Studios Build your own Adventure studio type book, mix in some of the set idea's with the game for a place minifigs could edit the movies together to some action scenes. Be one way to put a camera type build and directer into a micro type build?
Seen some images for the set's some time back an thought if I had known about them when they came out, would have gotten them an had some fun building an making some shorts then. Did get into making some brick film shorts that turned out ok, but that's just me on that part.
I remember wanting this SO BADLY as a kid. For years, I was obsessed with making this sci-fi superhero movie out of legos with one of these Studios sets with a supernatural antagonist. I built so many characters, props, vehicles, and even drew out tons of storyboards on the fly (which ended on a cliffhanger involving some ancient Mega Blocks villain).
I remember being entranced by that Just Imagine... tagline. I remember Whirlpool washing machines used the same tagline in their commercial, and I was upset at them for stealing from Lego in my mind.
Now I'm thinking about a kid who def got that polybag with a tree from a grandparent
One of the main reasons why lego studios failed is due to the fact that most of the sets without the camera we’re nothing special and expecting kids to own a near 130 dollar set is ridiculous
4:10 I used to imagine something similar, neat.
5:03 Me
Edit: Dang this was a year ago
Sent from my iPhone
The ONE line where I have every conceivable set for it (except for Spider-Man, sadly, I don't own a single one...) because of my unwavering desire to become a filmmaker just like Spielberg... Good times. Also, your pictures are AMAZING! Way better than the ones I took because of my crappy cameras...
And considering I now have The Lego Movie 2 Movie Maker set...yeah, the spirit lives on, even in these whippersnapper's smartphones. (GOD do I feel old.)
I think i had this but didnt know anything
Spider man spider man just whatever have spider can
The end of that video hit so close to home 🤣

Man I remember these sets. Unfortunately I never got the camera set, but I did get a few of the smaller sets.
The studios director and staff actually appear in Lego Island Xtreme Stunts too. The game not the Xtreme Stunts sets.
The Ninjago movie part dose not age well
wait what
there was a LEGO _Prince of Persia?_
1:38 Windows Movie Maker used to be good for something?
Dude, my brother makes his videos with POWERPOINT and Movie Maker, because the latter is so bad on it's own.
And I used PowerPoint to make sh*tpost images for friends. It's been a while since I've done that.
Yeah. I used an older version of it on another computer, which worked a little more like other editing software, like sony vegas and the like. When I got a new computer and couldn't run the old version of maker and tried out the new one... my word, what a nightmare. Even THESE videos wouldn't be possible with just that.

Inquisition :interesting
You sound like a young George Carlin
hay i had this, until i lost it.
I like Ninjago but not the movie
2:38 WHaT iS THiS HeReSY?!
OMG Lego should bring back this them
One awesome thing about studio was that it was a way to explain away the shabbiness of sets IRL compared to their presentation in media and box art. As an 8-year-old I spent a lot of time building "bad on purpose" or "fake on purpose" or "scaled-down on purpose" landscapes and props and diorama style scenes with a limited parts budget and felt great about the fact that within the landscape of my imagination these were high quality, legitimate builds that, to a mini figure, resembled the real life scenarios and stories I wanted to tell. Great video! Thanks for putting it up
Man, the Lego Prince of Persia theme was underrated. They balanced play and display so perfectly. Every set was chock full of great action features that didn't take away from the look of the model.
Yeah I know I'm super late to this but Ninjago screwed it up no offense I love Ninjago but not the movie
oh man i loved doing stop frame animations with my lego sets especially my exo knight sets and ohhh man that spiderman set takes me back ahhhhh jack stone your giving me so much nostalgia
Studios really helped create today's stop motions.
I prefer an Camara or an iPhone.
Great video!
Oh, God. I remember Backlot. My computer could barely run it.
Those instruction videos were actually pretty good, really helped get the old creative juices flowing. Not to mention the sound and music library. It was a great little introduction to movie making generally.
God love these
Backlot. Holy shit. I thought that was a fever dream.
How did Raimi get away with it?
OH MY GOSH LEGO BACKLOT
The most interesting line from 'Studios' is Jurassic Park 3
Nostalgia! So much nostalgia
Still have the Nesquick rabbit lying around here hehe
Made the "Don't you guys have phones" meme two years before it existed 5:00
Yes, Alpha Team next!

Oh look, the Alpha Team video is online. Geez, dude. I've been working on my comics for the last few months,. Those are much more important than any of the videos I make here. These have to take a backseat sometimes.
Nick on Planet Ripple sorry!!
....Tis okay.
I am watching this on my phone at 5:00 in the video.

My camera never worked
Can you do Lego Batman next?
That would have to be a patron-funded episode.
Dino Cop needs a come back.
YAY!!!!! ALPHA TEAM!!!!!!!!
Great doom metal vocals at 4:23
I guess it is my generations time to produce childhood nostalgia! I'll have to binge this series later...
I've made a playlist to make it easier.
I'm already through with the videos, thanks a lot for the nostalgia burst!
No prob.
I love these! Please do more! (you could also make them shorter if you dont have the time)
I will. I've already written a script for the Alpha Team video. I'm just finishing Planet Ripple volume 3 first.
