- Oshi no Ko Season 3 got Announced for 2026 a year from now, but it doesn't disregard how terrible that manga ending was. Now that months have passed since it ended. I think its the worst manga ending in the history of manga. My feelings only got more sour as time progressed. Even Attack on Titan / Shingeki no Kyojin and Domestic Girlfriend had more soul poured into its conclusion / finale. Aka threw his series into the trashcan just to move onto the next project.

No season 2 of Mondaji-tachi either, whereas the sales for the Lotte No Omocha anime did so bad that it got the manga rushed to cancellation, no Ryuuou no Oshigoto or Tenshi 3P, or even Grimgar.
And I'm still hoping for the third series of the Onegai franchise. Last one was Onegai Twins 22 years ago. This could happen to No Game No Life easily.

In writer's perspective, imagination is not measured by their ability to come up with multiple endings, but rather by their ability to create a story that resonates with readers (author of Oshi no Ko's begining and middle of series) and leaves a lasting impact (canon ending). In this case Oshi no Ko's ending, leaves audiences lasting PAINFUL impact, gives a "spark" to fandom, because I understand the potential benefits of a controversial ending. I find that your assumption limits my imagination, likely due to my preference for the canonical ending.
I don’t know if the lasting impact of “wow what a shit ending and a waste of my time” is what you really want to go for.
Fans need to keep sending feedback so that there is a chance the ending gets changed before the anime reaches it.
Maybe if we are lucky the anime at least gets its own ending lol.

While i understand how the ending feels like it's missing something important, I'm also not sure what everyone was expecting. It's a revenge story, in which akane and co failed to steer aqua towards a different path and he kept spiraling down, so it was never going to have a happy ending.
But i do want to know: what would any of you guys change about the ending, if you could, and with the intention of making it as well written as possible?

I'm referring to the Japanese fans sending feedback.
English fans are not listened to which is how it should be.
However its also good for English fans to talk about this because it may make writers think twice about toning down stories for the global audience.
Like: "Oh hey, the filthy gaijin actually don't hate sister romances or lolis as much as we thought they did, look at all those comments. Guess we are safe to go all out again."

to me at the end of the day these properties succeed because they're popular in japan first and foremost, the moment they become conscious of the global market is when they start making mistakes, I know plenty of people around the world that like things people would think only the japanese would like
a common theme among good mangaka is not knowing who likes their stuff, example Oda, he genuinely didnt think women would like One Piece because he made it appealing to what he would like back when he was 14,
because in the end making a good series isnt about appealing to a market, its simply making the best thing you can

This is why GFL2 lacks any cute characters like they had in 1 or why all of the Key visual novels are sfw now even remasters or why Neptunia keeps getting more and more toned down.
We don't live in a world where they don't care anymore so all we can do now is try to cancel out the voices of the ones who want things to be less controversial.
I SERIOUSLY wonder if this will have the proposed incest ending. But they have the tragic part of a forbidden romance be that for example Ruby perishes during childbirth.
I’m thinking it’ll be portrayed as a dark ending where Aqua and Ruby kill Hikaru, they get outed for it by Kana or someone, they’re now ostracized and on the run from society as criminals, and with them never able to return to society and only having each other, they just say f*** it.
They’d basically become Andy and Leyley, living in a shack/cabin away from society, mentally deteriorated while in an incestuous relationship.
That would hurt so much.

People also hated MHA, I personally thought it was all right as a super hero children friendly series but it was a bad ending for many people whatever that means. So that's 3 series

even if you go full alabama and ruin the character it wouldnt be as bad as the real ending that has too many shit unresolve and left untied. I cant name a single main cast character that has their story and theme actually tied well in the original ending. At least with Alabama ending Ruby character wouldnt get assassinate like the original.
Not were people VERY Pissed off about the ending, especially after S2 apparently adapted what people call and I quote “the best arc in Oshi no ko” But now they’re saying that the 3rd season is coming out in 2026. That means that I’ll be 2 years since the end of S2.
And by that that point when we finally DO get to season 3, you can’t help but ask yourself “Will people even care at that point🤔🤔🤔?
And if it does end up coming out, for anime only’s and especially manga readers, I don’t recommend you watch it immediately, cause it’s pretty much going to be a setup season for a S4 of THAT even happens.

As much as I love reading the fanfics of Oshi No Ko and the earlier chapters and episodes of this manga, I don’t have the stomach to read or watch the conclusion to this series again. The ending just smells like a dumpster fire of pretensions.

I don't have a problem with the ending, revenge may lead to you dying as well and not always metaphorically. Despite some regrets, from his perspective, Aqua lived a full life as Goro while the patient he got attached to, now Ruby, didn't, so, he was going to garantee she would this time around, and as long Kamiki was alive, that wouldn't happen as Ruby/Serina would be in danger, so, he was going to kill the guy, plus, a desire for revenge doesn't disappear just because you bonded with someone and has a network of people to support you, just look at Reign of The Seven Spellblades, 14 volumes in Japan and the synopsis still says, that while people are moving on, Oliver is still stuck, with the flames of revenge still burning.

@@ChibiReviews I honestly didn't mind the idea of the ending...but I didn't like that it felt really rushed and came out of nowhere. It needed way more time to develop and lead to that conclusion. I don't think every series needs a happy ending, so if done right it can still be great...but in this case it felt like about 50 chapters were missing before the ending we got.
As an anime only, that knows absolutely nothing about the ending besides that it was really bad, I am still definitely going to watch it! When the teaser came out I was just like “AAAAAAAAAA COME ON I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER YEAR FOR MORE OSHI NO KO!!!!” But I’m still excited for season 3 regardless of what ever happened in the ending!
Also I didn’t say anything on your tweet because I was afraid of getting bombarded with spoilers. Even here I’m a little cautious.

@ yeah I’m just hoping that the Manga readers are blowing it a bit out of proportion like they did for Attack on Titan, cause when the final episode came out for that I was just like “the manga readers hated THIS?!?! WHY?!?!” And who knows maybe the anime will make the ending seem not as bad like for AoT! (And yes I know I’m making the comparison to AoT a lot but that’s the only example that I’m familiar with)
Yeah, I think it’s fine for you to be excited for it because the manga only sharply turns to the worst at the very, very end- so season 3 should really still have a bunch of good content for you to enjoy!

The take that kaguya-sama ending was just bad its wild to me it was fine all the characters arcs were closed. Maybe he did not care about oshi no ko but I dont think a writer having more than one project is a sign of a author not caring either Murata Shinya have at least 3 mangas on the works per time and always trying something new.

Unlikely that Akasaka took it out on Oshi no Ko because Renai Daiko was cancelled. The ending of Oshi no Ko was probably planned in 2023 when the shooting for the drama started. After all, the drama has the same ending as the manga. This ending was probably planned for quite some time, if not right from the start.
I'm going to watch it. I'm a firm believer in "journey before destination" and the journey of Oshi no Ko is fantastic. Though I do REALLY hope they make an anime only ending.
You said it but I can’t help but just emphasize again how comical it is that this ending is universally seen as a “bad” ending. Not like attack on titan for example where there’s a lot of debate about it. Here there is no debate. So freakin sad

I have to agree Domestic girlfriend ending was really bad as it really did 180 with the remaining 20 chatpers that were left that it reaaly left a sour taste in my mouth to the point I don't beleive the last 20 chapters happened at all and it ended with Natsuo and Rui marying and having kid at the end and leaving it at that(and or some fanfic that had them end up together in a good way also). I also agree with your selection of bad endings also. At least Jujitsu Kaisen and My hero had improvements to there endings that make them more likable.

Renai Daikou was the other series Aka was working on, and he was basically forced to condense the last arc into a chapter or two which is unfortunate because it was such a good series. Although it is still better than most abrupt endings.
People will complain, but in my opinion the worst ending is no ending. I can't tell you how many anime that I enjoy just stopped.

I'm really sick of all the negativity around the anime. Manga readers just can't let people enjoy the things they enjoy without chiming in about how bad the ending is, just trying to turn people off of the show they've enjoyed.
I will absolutely still watch it. Yes I'm disappointed with the ending and I hope they makes some changes to it in the anime. But even if they don't, I had a great time along the way and the anime has been one of my favourite shows to watch in the recent years.

Ngl, the ending was so horrendous that it makes me no longer interested in getting an Ai Hoshino figure anymore, especially the upcoming figure of her with her kids releasing in July.
And it's going to be VERY interesting to see how OnK does in future Kadokawa financial reports since the anime was DOMINATING every other franchise in the top 10 in the last report.

Spoiler alert for domestic girlfriend manga finale:
Basically, Rui is pregnant with Natsuo's child and the two plan on getting married. Around the same time, a struggling journalist is trying to dig up dirt on Natsuo (he's become kinda famous as a promising new writer), using illegal means to get his hands on his info. He plans on publicly exposing the fact Natsuo was romantic with both of his stepsisters, but Hina exposes his illegal methods to his superiors and puts a stop to it. As revenge, the journalist hits Hina with his car, leaving her in a coma. The bartender (who became good friends with Hina) feels obligated to tell Natsuo and Rui that Hina never stopped loving him, causing Natsuo and Rui to guilt themselves into calling off their wedding.
Yeah, despite all the build-up between Natsuo and Rui, their genuine love for each other and the child they have together, Natsuo switches to team vegetable. Hina eventually wakes up after a few years but the ending is still a hot mess.
I’m probably still gonna watch it because usually when an ending is regarded as bad I tend to be fine with it anyway or like in the case of AoT I would think the opposite. Plus I’m skeptical of the opinions of the internet when it comes to endings since lately whenever a story ends the reception seems to be “it’s bad” by default followed by over blown reactions. Case in point when Bleach ended and people were burning their manga volumes of it.
I know the ending is bad, but personally I felt Platinum End much, much worse.

To be fair, Gash Bell had to cut its anime adaptation short because Raiku injured his hand, putting the manga on a hiatus. It would be nice if it saw a new anime, especially since re-adaptations have been going strong since at least Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Hopefully, all the legal baggage with Raiku going independent and disassociating from Shogakukan isn't getting in the way of one ever happening, either.

Hey Chibi. Hope you're having a nice day. As much as I am hesitant to admit to reading it, you know what this ending reminds me of, the manga ending of Prison School. If you can survive the obserdity and degeneracy of the manga, I would suggest looking it up because I swear it is probably the only manga I can think off that has an ending on par with oshi no ko
AoT ending is great after the anime though.

If you have high hopes that the anime ending will be great then go ahead and watch the anime. If you think the ending will be bad then don't watch it.

I disagree. AoT kept true to it's core principle of despair,hopelesnes and general feeling that no one is safe,OnK betrayed all of it's principles in the end...

the ending is very important to a story. The reason why i dropped solo leveling manwha is that i heard numerous times that that ending is bad as well. I am watching and enjoying the anime but I hope I won't get dissapointed
it will be interesting to see the nexts seasons of the show, mostly because you can tell how aka was losing interest on the series as time went on, while the animators have put their heart and soul on the episodes, so who knows, maybe they'll change studios

I feel like the ending bashing is somewhat misplaced. Don't get me wrong, the ending was bad. But the ending being bad was just a direct consequence of a major flaw OnK always had from the very beginning and got exponentially worse around the 100th chapter mark: the story was rushed. That's really the problem. There's no build up, poor foreshadowing, constantly skipping story beats (telling most of everything and not showing as a consequence too), etc, you get the point. Because of that the ending takes a hit. But I'd argue, even if you disliked the general destination of the ending, it would've been perfectly fine had the story properly justified it beforehand
Basically what I'm trying to say is that you're blaming the symptom, not the cause...

The manga ending really killed the hype, I didn't even finish season two and I was enjoying it
i prefer watching one my favorite series decide to end and do a semi weird poetic death, rather then trying to catch a plot you lost in a moving typhoon that is called "weekly manga deadlines". So ultimately the end was damn bitter, but i didnt end up tasting like the kid who mixed every single food and drink inside a water cup type of storyline

Hot take Oshi No Ko’s ending was not that bad! I thought the ending was decent and actually made sense with the story and the themes! Personally, I thought JJK’s ending was way worse!

honestly, there's a lot of execution that can happen in the story. heck, make aqua went to prison i think is better ending because it's at least won't erase his development.

At this point we can just forsee what will happen with all future Aka works: thrilling introduction, masterful character writing, interesting development, and then feeding the audience with actual shit when it ends. It was the same deal with Kaguya, it was the same deal with Oshi no Ko, and it will be the same deal with Aka's next work because he is honestly an unresponsible author without a proper work ethic and does not treat the readers with dignity.
Im probably gonna watch it. I know this is where the manga kinda drops off (I mean, I read it, so I know it to be true) but we're still not quite the ending. And you know, if I can ignore the ending of the story I can enjoy the series
I’ll follow the anime of Oshi No Ko. Attack on Titan made changes to the anime ending to satisfy fans who weren’t happy with the manga ending just a couple of years ago. I’m hoping something similar happens when it comes time for the Oshi No Ko anime to conclude the story.
That ending was absolutely tragic.....
you wanna know one thing, i was a reader of okusama ga seitokaichou, and the ending was...rushed? like from one chapter to another it goes really fast, i'm like, wtf, why are we in the final scene
we got a third season of this but we still haven’t gotten a good full anime of Berserk.
i know the manga isn’t done but think about all the great stuff we could’ve had in the anime. we could see the lost children arc we could see Guts riding Zodd killing a giant cthulhu monster which is the best manga panel ever created.
Yeah, no... That's the double-edged sword of people's expectations. Berserk is just going to be one of those series that works better in manga form because animation doesn't capture detail from panels.
There's still time to change if the anime gets to season 4
I'd rather have the fan-made Oshi no Ko ending for the OnK anime ending , rather than a tokyo ghoul readaption. I would sacrifice 10 years of waiting for a decent ending for OnK.
Every time Oshi No Ko gets brought up, my body begins to boil with rage and I get pissed off for just thinking about it. I need Doga Kubo to straight up state that they will have an anime original ending or even have a public voting event for it, because we should’ve not gotten the dumpster fire that was a result of Aka’s boredom.
The way he keeps writing his manga, he’s not gonna have a job at this rate.

Some random guy responded very disrespectfully a comment I said in your post about this topic, I said that I wouldn’t watch Oshi no Ko because of the ending, then I watched his Twitter profile and saw his opinion about the series and it all started to make sense. maybe because of my low expectation for Oshi no ko , this hurt me less than Oregairu season 3 .
I have such high expectation for that one and how it turn out , everything feels like a rush and everything seems mediocre ,
so average in everything , it shouldn't be like that .
Ppl are hating alabama so much now they r regretting it...truly sad for this series...ppl want to take murder aspect so much so author just shove that murder aspect into their throat and now readers cant handle it anymore
I get Oshi no Ko ending being bad, but being the “Worst in History” I feel is a bit of a stretch. It’s a hollow and bitter ending but not the “Worst in History.”
No it is the most soulless ending I ever seen ...I seen manga ending many were rushed or not live up to the hype but still understandable but this one just has no soul or care at all ...aka literally just woke up and said fuck this manga iam done for no valid reason ...this shit was super successful
@ Still to call it the Pinnacle of bad endings is a stretch. The Black Zetsu plot twist in Naruto is arguably worser because it makes no sense whereas the ending of Oshi no Ko can at least be explained from both ends.
@@djaafardjaafar7381 not to mention JJK’s ending is just a bunch of bogus bonus chapters nobody asked for whereas Oshi no Ko at least went bad and stayed consistently bad without breaking the flow. I still like JJK’s ending more but still.
@@escahiro6538 I think part of the issue is how insanely popular Oshi no Ko was. With such high expectations, a small letdown is going to feel like a huge disappointment. Sure, the ending wasn't the best but it wasn't as terrible as people make it out to be.

The only person that matters is the writer, it's their story, they can tell it like they want, get a grip on reality
I'll probably will still watch it assuming season 3 only covers the ruby and kana scandel arc. If they wanna also squeeze in the movie arc it'll have to be 24 episodes which Im okay with. The story is pretty good until after the movie arc. I still wanna see how these up coming arcs are animated because at least these still had soul in them before aka gave up. Of course my hype is dead but might as well see how it plays out.
As for after the movie arc.... assuming that's in season 4 then I might hate watch it or drop it entirely. I think the events of the ending are okay but they needed way more context. No flashback/narrations. I would like to see all the dialogues reactions and live scenes played out. Also perhaps more context behind as to why Aqua did what he did. If the manga just fleshed out and gave more context I feel the current ending would of been better. Will the anime do that? Who knows. Solo Leveling has provided more context so there's hope Oshi no ko might get the same treatment (Im legit laughing at myself writing this).
NGL if your an anime only and wavering, just watch, the ending literally isn't bad at all, it's blown out of proportion, what did you expect? you seriously read the entire story and expected literally ANYTHING else from the end of this story?

Shinigami-sama ni Saigo no Onegai wo still has my vote for worst manga ending...... but to be fair, I haven't read a whole lot of manga lately. Would you say I need to read more, or would seasoned readers agree with me on this one?
