I've always said that the eyes of the subjects that John draws could almost tell a story themselves. I remember one of his portraits where the subject has an almost '1,000 yard stare'. I told John that the look on the subjects face was one of having seen too many friends lost on adventures and now a new group of "adventurers" is asking him to lead them into the dungeon.
The adage about a picture being worth a thousand words certainly applies to John's work. It may suggest a different story to each person that looks at it, but it speaks to people.
Yet another lovely video, Todd! In regards to John's art being used for nasty folk, I do commission art for a living, and I've been told a few times that I was chosen due to the grimness of my work, and because of that (and because I find it fun) I draw a lot of villains and monsters. I see it as a compliment whenever my work can inspire strong emotions, so I completely agree with you there!
Amazing video and this art is really worth celebrating - and kudos to his BFRPG community participation. Really loving these artist showcasing videos. Thanks Todd :)
Love this, and John is a great guy who I am glad to know!
He's a gem of the open source RPG community. And a super-nice guy.

Wow, I'm deeply humbled (I'm really John in real life, well, mostly). Thanks so much for the shout out, Todd. Again, humbled.
Thank you, John, for years of service to this project. You've made more happiness than you'll ever know.
@@toddlyons Aww, shucks!

Accepting it as a compliment is a good way to go. The same art will touch people in different ways, so long as it does touch them.

I'm continuously impressed by the talent and dedication that this project inspires. People will work much harder for love than money.
