back in my time stick vs auto was THE discussion; which is/could be faster
afaik automatic transmission only consistently were faster than manuals since around the early 2000s. installing shortshifters, forcing that stick into neutral while still accelerating, nailing thst clutch timing, and slightly dragging the dragging/power shifting was our topic back in the day (some even went clutchless for that extra time but rip synchros). im glad i get to use a dogbox, i feel like a high performance driver when getting those 50ms shifts, even if its a 50kph 4-5

I googled your race car, funny thing, my dad had a white '58 impala "lead sled" he called it. Claims it had a 348 w/ 3 deuces and a 4 spd. He used to cruise K St in Sacramento in the late 50s early 60s. I think he knocked up my mom in the back seat lol

@@loganshotrod4x464 ran one on the street before I could afford a muscle car. Not much success till I bought a B&M adapter to put a late aluminum case T-flite on it. Vinnie Tarrantola made me a 10" that brought that car to life!! About 3800 stall in a 59' Fury HT.
Mr39036ce: oh, hell yeah! WILCAP made an adapter too, I had a couple of those with 66-71 Torqueflites. My 36 is getting an 833 4 speed & ive never ran one behind an early Hemi, but I’m sure it can be done...

Not all of us can know what it feels to race at a drag strip. I do! I wasn’t in the 9’s or lower but I was in the 11’s and in the 70’s wasn’t bad. My heart was racing the first pass then after the second passi was bang shifting every gear. I felt alive. I felt BAD!!!

Tach shows about 8,000 rpm (tach only) but reving very high RPMS....

@@moosemanprophet5942 I have no idea. I'm not an engine builder but I would imagine it's probably a small block Chevy with a medium size bore and a shortened stroke. I'd love to know the exact specs so I can try to build it in Automation.
If and if it's stock.. I'm sure its the forged crank of the 283. Slap that crank in a big bore block and away it goes. 1/8 mile.. quick it and tick it. Sounds like a 301(dz) with some alien jet fuel. Lol

Casey Burnett it was a long day of racing and my clutch gap had worked its way tight. After the race it was at .028 and I started at .060. Hard to get it into reverse with no air gap ,, LOL 👍🏻

He can shift. But the racing 4-speeds they use are made to run like this. Many 4 speed racing trans are inline shift pattern. SEGA mandates H pattern. Also I don’t think gas class racing in 1967 was turning 10,000 rpm. The part available back then would come apart in my opinion.

South east gassers is pretty authentic for a gasser club. But what were the HP and RPMS like back in the 60’s? This performance seems light years ahead of “the way it was”.

Todd bob , well all I can tell you and them is jump on in,,, the water is warm. We run under strict 10 pounds per cubic inch rules of the Southeast Gassers Association. It is open to all that want to give it a try. This car was the 2018 world record holder and 2017 World Champion. Today it is only less than a tenth off the record. Anyone can come run with us. It’s not as easy as it looks. Thanks for watching.
