    10,000 rpm equals the piston going up 166.66 times a second and down 166.66 times a second. Absolutely phenomenal and the sound is Awesome. I built a 329 ci chevy ( 283 crank and 400 sbc block and it will turn 10,000 rpm all you want . Even 11,000 rpm. The power is unmatched and it is very reliable. It was common to racing culture "back in the day," but not so much street racers. Right after high school (1980) my friend built a 4 bolt 372 CSB with the same build as the 1/2 mile circle track cars were using that would run at 8, 000+ RPMs. My 396 CBB was built with the same theory (huge duration cams) using extra hard main bolts and would turn 7300 RPMs in the 1/4. Back then, I freaked out many people who wanted to run my 396 'boat anchor" against their small blocks. Once they heard that 7300 RPMs open up with a Cehvy Corvette tri-power intake on that intake ported 396, they would just shake their heads in disbelief. lol, good memories.

    So do you think destroking a a 73 400 small block to a 377 is a better way to go with an old motor like this instead of going bigger

    • @chriswhite8860
      @chriswhite8860 Рік тому

      It would depend on the application. On a street to weekend warrior engine the cubic inches and extra stroke would work better. On an all out race engine it's possible that the 377 could work better depending on the tires, chassis setup etc. You are basically just keeping the piston speed within a certain range that will allow your rods to live. Shorter stroke cranks can turn more rpm while keeping the piston speeds down but again it's application driven. If you spend the Big $$$ required to make the 406 , 414, 421 etc motors turn high rpm and live they'll almost always make more power. Assuming of course you have a cylinder head capable of feeding the bigger motor the air it needs.

    • @chriswhite8860
      @chriswhite8860 Рік тому +1

      @Awful Coffel’s One Car Garage what are you planning to put the motor in and what's your plans for it ? All out race engine, or race on the weekends and minimal street time, or will it be street only ? The reason I ask is the 400 blocks once you get over a certain power level can cause some issues. If it's just a pump gas street hot rod you'll be fine but for an all out race engine I'd put everything into a Dart shp block.

      @chriswhite8860 Рік тому +1

      @Awful Coffel’s One Car Garage I would build what you have then. Keep the compression around 10.5 a good hydraulic roller cam
      A good set of heads for it (AFR 210 or Dart pro 1 cnc both work great out of the box just have someone check the valve jobs for runout and sealing) a performer rpm dual plane intake and a good carb you should be able to make good hp in the 500 to 550 range with a pretty mild build and you'll have gobs of torque. Good luck with your build man. Let me know how it turns out.

    I know my engine guy built alot of 283s and set records with his vaga wagon late 70s early 80s alot of guy would bore a 283 60 thousand and make a 295 and they were very high. Reving engines there was a full size wagon called daddy rabbit that raced back in the 80s and everytime the car left with the wheels op in the air you would think that being such small cubic. Inch engine that it wouldn't make enough torque for that .

    • @mikewillett5076
      @mikewillett5076 Рік тому +1

      The smaller engines use sheer rpm instead of brute torque. I noticed that most 283 cars that go wheels up don't really carry it long. They pop up and right back down (usually). Still very impressive.

      @tompeters5414 front cam driven distributor, it allows for more intake clearance.

      @@PerformanceEngines No answer, I use to drag race a bored out 283, we called it a 302, shift at between 10,000 and 10,500, fair question, that would be a 3 inch stroke, just in case you didn't know.

    10000 rpm push rod will not last 1000 miles

    • @Sdpartscenter
      @Sdpartscenter  7 місяців тому +1

      It's a drag race built engine, definitely not going to be seeing 1000 miles of use at 10,000 rpm. This gets refreshed each season.
