Actually I just saw an article from 2012 say that obesity was becoming a problem in Greece. Because people are eating junk food instead of their original diet, including olive oil.
Yeah, if you get the data published by European Union Italy is one of the most fit countries in Europe and Spain is average so I dont think the olive oil is the problem. Anyway, even the fattest country in the mediterranean is very skinny compared to USA. Also, 99% of the articles is telling amazing things about olive oil. Ofc, everybody knows it has many calories, as any oil, and you shouldnt consume a lot if you are overweight.
i have studied nutrition for 25 years, certainly no expert, but of all the fitness gurus, dietitians, and doctors (including my own father) this is the first time i have ever heard anyone let alone a physician advise against eating olive oil. everyone else has concurred the opposite that olive oil is quite healthy as a good fat for burning fat like avocado. the only problem with olive oil is that many of them are not real olive oil and are processed in america and that the best is actually from europe and the mediterranean and unfortunately costs a pretty penny per bottle. look for harvest date no more than 3 years and the COOC label for quality control and make sure it has 0 trans fats.
It's not the first time I've seen this mentioned, and I see no reason to believe it is healthy. It is processed and probably (one of) the reasons vegans can still get heart disease. It should be consumed sparingly, better yet not at all.
The problem is, as pointed out.. Most folks can't afford the good oils.. They often cost more than the most expensive cuts of beef.. It's just nuts that to be healthy, you'd have to spend a huge chunk of your food budget to buy real olive oil, not processed, avocado oil, I've never even seen in most stores.. Absolutely hard to do if you are raising kids with your wife.. So.. what's the best option?.. use natural butter, Lard instead?.. My grandmother always bought big 3 lb. cans of lard to cook with.. and she made it to her mid 90's..
Im greek and consume a lot of olive oil about a L a week give or take and my vitals are pristine including my blood pressure am also 100lbs and have maintained my weight my whole life.My doctor says I'm in phenomenal shape for a 33 yr old and i don really go to the gym or anything so Im gonna stick to the diet and the olive oil my 109 year old great grandmother consumed, thanks.

3:53 1 tablespoon olive oil = 14g fat composed of 1.9g saturated, 1.4g polyunsaturated, 10g monounsaturated. That's around 2g saturated and 11.4g - 12g unsaturated. Saying olive oil is 14% saturated fat is misleading because it's also 86% unsaturated fat! Guess what? So are avocados, peanuts, almonds, macademia nuts, brazil nuts, chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds. All mainly composed of small amounts of saturated fat but the rest is healthy unsaturated fats. So all those foods are unhealthy as well by your standards?
It's funny how he mentioned eating fats while discouraging the ingestion of high caloric foods called "fats"; it was quite amusing considering my personal health has been restored using healthy fats (based upon research studies), while doctors scratched their heads (and still are confused) at my situation. Fruits are also high in sugar, so that is also something that needs to be clarified at the start of the video so people understand. Fruits are great for you, but not added sugars. The bottom line: processed foods, chronic/prolonged stress or trauma, lack of self-care and toxins are the root of this systemic problem.
his point was that the saturated fat content of olive oil is way above 7% therefore suboptimal. the majority of nuts and seeds are in the 2-4% range for saturated fat so well within the optimal range, although there are a couple exceptions (macadamias are 12% and peanuts are 15%), it's a valid question whether those two should also be avoided. I think the bottomline is that a lot of people eat olive oil at every meal and it's that frequency that adds up. If you were having handfulls of macadamia nuts several times a day i wouldnt be surprised if someone said it wasnt ideal, although a whole food is as a rule preferrable to a processed one like olive oil where all the fiber has been taken away
You are missing the entire point. The foods you mentioned: avocados, peanuts, almonds, macademia nuts, brazil nuts, chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds. They are all whole foods. Not processed and eaten in their entirety. Therefore you don't consume pure fat you eat a whole food containing fat but also fiber, carbs, some protein, vitamins and other phytonutrients. To sum it up: Eat olives not olive oil.
ExplodingCore Is eating whole food with fat different from eating processes food (oil) with fat along with something else (like nuts, avocadoes, seeds, etc.)?
Thus speaks my grandfather: For the first 50 years of life I consumed olive oil (or any other fat) with an eye dropper. This was due to twenty years of extreme poverty, followed by ten years of famine, succeeded by twenty years of dearth. For the last half century I have more than made up for the scarcity of olive in my diet during the first 50 years, by eating, drinking, and anointing myself with more olive oil than a Minoan pithos could hold at full capacity. That works out to at least 50-60 ml of pure olive oil per diem for the last fifty years. I have given myself over to olive oil with wild abandon-and at age 💯 do not yet appear to have suffered any ill-effects.

@Cary Galloway What makes fish oil so good for you is it's omega 3 fatty acids or alpha linolic acid. These are the fat cells our bodies use to create brain tissue!!! About 18 to 30% of fish (depending on species) is omega 3 fatty acid. The thing with fish is that our ocean is currently a disaster. The mercury levels have never been higher and the micro plastic and pollution have infected almost every part of our ocean. (even the Mariana trench) Also fish oil supplements and omega 3 supplements in general are very expensive and they usually come with high levels of omega 6's and 9's along with other crap since its an unregulated market. Now compare that to extra virgin olive oil which is cheaper, well regulated, lower in toxins (Like mercury) high in omega 3's and readily available. In fact just by getting rid of other oils and just cooking with olive oil, you can get enough omega 3's to completely forgo taking an omega 3 supplement at all depending on how often you cook. So why does olive oil have bad rep? While.... Our bodies need Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9 to function. A big reason why many believe olive oil is bad is due to these omega 6 and 9 acids which many claim cause cardiovascular issues. The truth is when people start to experience long term health effects is when they have an imbalanced ratio between these 3 fatty acids, not because they are lacking a specific one. The average American consumes between 1 to 20 up to 1 to 30 omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids in the typical American FDA diet. So is olive oil inherently evil? Not necessarily by itself and I'd argue its better then fish oil!!! That brings me to your other claim about the Okinawan diet. According to www.bluezones.com "It turns out that it’s whole plant foods, not fish, that make up 90 percent of the traditional Okinawan diet: Less than 1 percent of the diet was fish; less than 1 percent was meat; and less than 1 percent was dairy and eggs. Most of the diet was based on vegetables and beans, with the most calories coming from purple and orange sweet potatoes. It’s not only a highly anti-inflammatory diet but also a highly antioxidant one." So it appears what actually made their diet so great has nothing to do with the fish but actually the beans, roots and tuber vegetables they were eating. These are very high in anti oxidants and anti inflammatories which are key to a healthy diet. I believe that these properties are so effective that it masks the mistakes they are making by eating high carbs and sugars in fruit. If you really really want to lose weight your going to have to fix your diet and lifestyle. Anyone who works out knows it's 70% what you eat 30% work out. So you must Focus a few things First fasting insulin levels its an 8 dollar blood test you can get from with your doctor ASK FOR IT MOST DOCTORS DON'T KNOW THIS. If your results are above a 9 (which most Americans are) YOUR GOING TO EXPERIENCE HEALTH ISSUES!!! cant stress it enough Next focus on your sugar and carb intake (Carbs break down directly into sugar) Chances are you are eating or drinking things that can break down into sugar in almost every single meal. Examples: pasta, bread, pizza, muffins, rice, dairy (Sugar is very sneaky) The key component in weight loss is managing your Hdl to triglyceride levels. If these two numbers are not equal or within a 1 to 1 or 1 to 4 HDL to triglyceride levels. Losing weight will be basically impossible without starving yourself. This is because of how your body is digesting your food. Since were talking about cholesterol try and limit LDL or the "bad cholesterol found in a lot of processed junk" Your omega 3 to omega 6 levels!!!!!!! I'd focus on getting rid of unnecessary oils vegetable oils, canola oils, flaxseed oil, grape seed oil etc etc etc. These will kill you. They have 30 to 70% unsaturated fats that will kill you. its in everything unhealthy mcdonalds, bk, processed food etc which is why so many Americans have 5 to 10 times the normal amount they should. I would say this is most important for American citizens. If you eliminate these omega 6 and 9 fatty acids you will drop pounds. As I said earlier you should be within a 1 to 1 or 1 to 4 range. Lectins: Beans are great but stay away from grains and if your going to eat beans cook them very well. Harvard recommends cooking beans for a few hours before they are safe as most nuts and seeds etc contain lectins. These lectins are the plants immune system and they will destroy the lining of your stomach over time which means your body cant absorb nutrients as well. I think I hit everything, lmk if you have questions. Hope this helps your health in some way, it really changed my life knowing all this. I would consider talking to your doctor about this if you were unaware about anything before.

I eat a lot of fat and have lost weight doing it. I have a super high LDL and total cholesterol and my heart arteries are only 10% blocked in my 50's. I had an M.I. but it was vasospasms, not a blockage. The whole lipid theory of heart disease is wrong, and the low fat diets don't work well. @@thatveganmuslim We need some healthy fats in our diets. The human brain physically actually consists of mostly fat. I actually got quite ill the year I cut out ALL possible dietary fat / oils. Apparently, my body wasn't able to process and digest & absorb foods effectively without fat. Many -if not most- nutrients require fat in order to be absorbed. Part of the lactose intolerance in people is due to highly processed milk which denatures the milk and removes natural enzymes in the process which are needed for healthier digestion. Same with gluten, too much processing has created a nutritionless product. When we eat low quality food that lacks nutritional content our bodies remain hungry and just store it as fat while still craving the nutrition we're missing. It's a viscious cycle: eat crap, still need the nutrition, so you feel hungry and have some more crap that just gets stored as fat since your body is actually starving for real nutrition. The body will keep storing it unless and until it senses that it's getting enough proper nutrition and then it can start letting go of the fat store.
Ah the old Saturated fat debate, mmm I've heard that it's actually the unstable cancer forming polyunsaturated fats (seed oils) that cause inflammation particularly when used in a pan and that extra virgin olive oil being monounsaturated is quite stable and it's filled with antioxidants that counter any possible oxidation effects as 'endless' studies and researchers have demonstrated. And by the way, it's not calories that make you fat it's insulin so just stop eating foods that spike your insulin and maybe add some intermittent fasting, and don't forget the olive oil.

I agree and disagree with the speaker. Sugar especially needs to radically be cut down since it leads to metabolic syndrome. Salt can also be reduced. However, healthy fats are important for health. Oilve oil should be eaten in moderation, as Extra Virgina, and avoid frying with it. Saturated fats such as butter are better for frying. Coconut oil is the best. Margarine, polyunsaturated oils (corn and sunflower) and Canola should always be avoided. Healthy fats are not fattening and do not spike blood sugar levels or create insulin resistance.
Olive Oil is a good source of oleic acid and an endogenous ligand for PPAR ALPHA receptor in the liver enabling it to work more efficiently. Deficiencies in oleic acid lead to a slowdown in burning energy and a deleterious effect on mitochondria. A major problem is that most people will heat olive oil in a saute pan or oven breaking the double bond that exists. When that occurs, the CIS fatty acid becomes a trans fat. Hence, putting good quality olive oil in a salad is not harmful to one's health.
Don't mean to be a troll. I listened to the first two main points you made and studied them. Here is what I found: The Greeks who you say are so obese, live longer than Americans, world health organization rates Greek lifespan about 21st of Nations and America 34th. The "Greek diet" is scientifically considerably healthier than typical American and "the Greek diet" includes lots of olive oil. All healthy diets are generally suppose to include a reasonable amount of fat. To suggest otherwise is a lie. So for a health program going on about Greeks being so fat because of olive oil is factually disingenuous. I am in no way connected to the olive oil industry but DO understand it is quite healthy and everyone should just study it for themselves to see through the lies, fallacies and disingenuous for themselves. Thanks for listening and don't bother responding because I'm simply stating facts that YOU need to study. I ALREADY DID! OVER AND OUT.

Olive oil being unhealthy could be a genetic thing. I've realized recently that I just can't digest olive oil. I also can't metabolize acetaminophen (Tylenol), but my liver can process as much alcohol as I throw at it. I'm mostly English and Irish. I think when it comes to diet, we need to think about our ancestry.
You could have a valid point. Northern Europeans historically did not eat olive oil, they mostly ate dairy fat from cow milk. Only in recent times has olive oil been introduced more widely to people away from the Mediterranean. Maybe some people just literally can't stomach olive oil just like people from more southern areas that never ate cow milk are lactose intolerant.
Don't kid yourself, Alcohol will definitely catch up to you and destroy your liver..I know many people from England and Ireland that died of Cirrhosis.
Have you considered that you may have gut microbiome issues instead? Olive oil can irritate your gut wall lining if you already have leaky gut, which a vast majority of Americans have and just don't know it. Tylenol also screws up your beneficial gut bacteria pretty badly. You might want to look into it.
I'd have a hard time getting in the daily 2000+ calories with an 80 calorie salad. Even adding 2 TBL of olive oil, I'd still be hard pressed to get enough calories. And calories aren't evil. It is how many calories you ingest. Granted, you want to eat good calories that are good for your health. However, there are some errors in the video in terms of Dr. Klaper who cites olive oil being 14% saturated fat and you can't add that up to get your recommended 7% daily, since that is based on calories total per day. And you can lose weight while eating olive oil if you start a good exercise program. It would be good if Dr. Klaper would explain why Olive Oil is bad for you blood. He didn't. At 5:07 he shows two test tubes, but they look to be the exact same except one has been given time to "settle" and "separate" and the other was simply shaken up. They probably came from the same person taken at the same time. Why is it hard to get accurate information even from a conference by a medical doctor???

3:08 thats wrong, Greece is over average in most statistics but Malta, UK, Hungary is mostly further on top. Olive oil is one of the best fats you can eat, people have been using it for thousands of years. It's extracted from a natural process unlike Canola Oil (rapeseed oil) or GMO corn oil. You can cook with it no problem but it can burn if you are frying at very high temp.. it will smoke.
You have to try it to believe it:-) I was having maybe 3 tbsps of olive oil a day, I didn't think it was a problem, I was already eating vegan anyway. But removing that oil CURED my acne and oiliness of my skin and noticably made my capillaries resistant to breaking. The changes happened to me within days of quitting oil. Vegetable soup has as much salt as whoever cooks it decides to put in it. If I decide to make a vegetable soup I can decide to leave out salt altogether if I want.
I thought we needed salt to live!? The human body can't live without some sodium. It's needed to transmit nerve impulses, contract and relax muscle fibers (including those in the heart and blood vessels), and maintain a proper fluid balance. It doesn't take much to do this.
You get all the real sodium needed when you consume plants... + the body does not try to rid itself of it - which should tell you something. (look at your t-shirts next time youve run for a couple of hours - if you have white salty lines then wonder why it is there....
Honestly i tried so many approaches to eating. Much which comes out of the vegan movement has not been tested over time; but we do have examples Arnold Ehret who ate mostly fruits no fats, still touted by many as a leading expert; died from multiple fractures after a fall (which was not considered severe enough to have this effect). His body was so lacking in minerals- from his deficient diet. Regarding salt; i tried no salt and low salt, i now know i need salt, no question. Check out Dr Young ph miracle on salt, i think his info is good. Body can use salt to create many different nutrients, our tissues are salty, we came frim the sea.
Olive oil is not as bad as other oils. Most people have a limit as to how "perfect" they wnat their diet to be. All life is a compromise no-one is perfect. If you eat a mostly vegan diet with some oil, you will get 99% of the benefts there is not need to try to be hyper prefect.
Most of the "olive oil" sold here in the US is not real olive oil. True extra virgin olive oil that is less than a year old is very healthy. That said the speaker makes a lot of valid points.
But notice he said "olive oil and not ( extra virgin olive oil)EVO..olive oil is not olive oil in its purest natural state such as EVO. Its just like when reseachers said Vitamin E doest help with Cancer and Heart Disease when they only study the Tocopherols and not the " TOCOTRIENOLS."
You are right, actually fat is not the problem, the actually problem is SUGAR and high sodium foods. Olive oil is OMEGA 3 fatty acid which is the good fat. I used coconut and extra virgin cold press olive oil. These days anything out there you think it good for your health, sooner or later someone is going to come up with video that would say, this is not good for your health. It would make you ask the question, what is there that is healthy any more?
"...they are too easy to use too much of and that's really the problem." So basically, what this man is saying is that we are too stupid to use the proper portions of salt, sugar, and oils. I COMPLETELY disagree the this doctor's advice. I have done my own research on olive oil and I am totally convinced that with proper portions, it IS heart healthy. Over eating ANYTHING (health food or not) is unhealthy. The KEY is proper portions of the right kinds of foods (olive oil is one of them) and have an active life. I am a slim person and I consume olive oil everyday. I use sensible portions because it is high in calories. In fact, I started using olive oil regularly three years ago and prefer it over canola, vegetable, corn, and other oils. The over consumption of salt and oils often come from overly processed foods which are LOADED with sodium and a parade of chemicals. That's what destroys and clogs our arteries, causes nerve damage, gives us cancer, heart attack etc. . So anyone listing to the video, please don't just take the word of this man just because he has "MD". behind his name. Think for yourself, do your own research and take everything you hear with a grain of salt.

Excuse me please, I am 81almost 82 years young, have a full time job, workout, think positive, eat olive oil daily, eat the Mediterranean diet, I don't fry I saute` my food . Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, a bit of butter as well. I am also Italian born, eat olive oil olives my all life, and do. I listen to me, not anybody else.
Well, whatever you think it's ok however; I have a full time job, I walk a lot , lift weights, use elastic bands, do some pilates and yoga. I always try to think positive even when the chips are down, I try. I had a very tough life been on the bottom many times, but I picked my self up, dusted my self off, rolled up my sleeves and went on with the business of life. I had a young babies and I was the only one they had. They needed me and I needed them. We went thru hell and back, but never gave up never well. Someone up there loves me and everyone le truly believe that. He was with us always. Having said that, there are many components to health, food is one of them, but there is much more.
I mix with middle eastern and olive oil in been big part of my family diet for generations. The real pure non process olive oil. I have people in my family live over 90 years old with olive oil in their diets and leaving out unhealthy fat and processed food. I use shots of olive oil for my bodybuilding gains. Hope I live past 40yr!
That's why people in the Mediterranean countries consume lots of olive oil and live long lives, past the age of 90 and 100, with barely NO heart disease. Too much of anything is not good for you. Everything in moderation.
A key factor is missing from this.....Vogel tested the effects of three different meals on a group of 10 volunteers who had normal cholesterol levels. One meal consisted of canola oil and bread. Another was olive oil and bread. The third meal was a piece of salmon. All three meals contained 50 grams of fat. The arteries didn't constrict much after the salmon meal. After the meal containing canola oil, they constricted slightly, reducing blood flow by 11%. After the olive oil and bread combination, however, blood flow plummeted 34% -- exactly the effect that Vogel had seen in previous research after volunteers ate a Big Mac with fries. HOWEVER ....Vogel's own research, in fact, has shown that when olive oil is combined with foods rich in antioxidants, such as vegetables, the vessel-constricting effect disappears. All you have to do is combine olive oil with red wine vinegar, which is loaded with the same antioxidants found in wine, and it appears you can prevent the deleterious effect on blood vessels. Plus, Virgin olive oil contains numerous phenolic compounds that exert potent anti-inflammatory actions The consumption of VOOs rich in phenolic compounds seems to favorably modulate inflammation, which contributes to the development and progression of CAD. In vitro and animal model studies have suggested mechanisms of action of these compounds in inflammatory activity at the cardiovascular level, including effects on the arachidonic acid cascade and on signaling pathways and receptors, improvement of vascular function, and reduction of adhesion molecules and chemokines. Moreover, these studies allow us to evaluate the isolated effects of VOO phenolic compounds. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5691704/

@@WiseandVegan Never take health advice from a vegan. You’ll end up malnourished and wondering how you got there. Meat and fat are insanely healthy for us and is all we need to thrive as humans.

I think no oil is honestly not doable...plus aren't some vegetables supposed to more absorbed with some fat...I think its way too extreme! I am 5 ft 110 lbs and don't feel the need to say no to olive oil. I use it sparingly and feel fine.
I need every calor6of the olive oil. We go through a gallon of olive oil a month and I have the cholesterol of an 18 year old and I am 46 years old and my stomach is not bulging out. I like how he goes from medical scientist telling us about the risk of olive oil to giving recipes of salad dressings.

Yes, besides some of the Asian countries their diet tends to be best because of their lifestyle and diet. Mainly fish, some red meat, and a good amount of decent vegetables and fruits is the overall best diet from any stand point
Olive oil does not make you fat, 900 calories per 100 grams is not countable when you eat it. Consuming four litre per month, your weight remains the same.
Calories in, calories out. The body will use carbs, protein, and fat for energy. The description he gives for the effects of olive oil are misleading. For example, "Olive oil paralyzes the blood vessels _from the normal blood flow._" Something similarly could be said about cigarettes, and secondhand smoke. We expose ourselves to all kinds of toxins every day. The question is.. how *significant* are they? Notice he says paralyzes- from the _normal_ blood flow. Not, "paralyzes blood flow", which would be reason for concern. Or, "paralyzes 50% of blood flow". So really he's simply stating it impairs normal blood flow, which could mean anything. But by using the descriptor "paralyzes", his deceptive intent is revealed. I've yet to see anything presented here to provide a clear reason for concern that olive oil is seriously detrimental to health, or prevents fat loss. It's also very important to make the distinction here between *Extra Virgin Olive Oil* and just "olive oil". EVOO is cold pressed so it contains all the benefits from a whole food. It's not refined. But this is how a lot of these studies arrive at their findings, and present their data. By purposefully omitting the whole truth; by using half truths. This is the most common form of deception in marketing. The economy likewise flourishes under this law, of only providing enough information to make a sale. Caveat emptor!
Yes, But what does this guy have to gain by saying that Olive Oil is not healthy? If he was selling an alternative or supplements I would say "oh yes, he's just interested in selling his product!!!!!" BUT they are just promoting healthy eating. What's in it for them?
theselector That's a good question.. "What's in it for him?" Just because the answer to that question isn't obvious, doesn't dismiss the fact that he's intentionally misleading people. His speech smells of a bribe. Just like a politician, they accept "incentives" to spin things in the interests of a company or corporation.
***** I read your comment/explanation regarding Canola and Olive Oil BUT didn't quite understand. You say that Olive Oil brings down blood pressure by slowing down blood flow, so in a way you've proven their point ie. that Olive Oil (just like any Oil) will cause the blood to be thicker or fatter and this decreases blood flow. I don't think this decreases blood pressure because as far as I'm aware high blood pressure is partially caused by narrowing of the arteries, therefore blood is finding it harder to flow through a smaller opening. If the blood is thick then it would be even harder for blood to get through.
First time i heard of such thing. All the time i heard olive oil is healthy. Sometimes we do not have to listen to some of these doctors. Not only confusing, but also disgusting and discouraging. I am taking olive oil, anyway. It has many benefits for health.
There are always going to be studies to support both sides. What it comes down to is that fact that we NEED fat. Our cell membranes are made of phospholipids (fats). Our brain is 60% FAT. Fat is a macro nutrient. Yes it may be low in micro nutrients (vitamins and minerals) but that's not why we eat it (although it does contain Vitamin E). It is because it is a macro nutrient. You need to eat sufficient amounts of all three macro nutrients - Carbohydrates (ideally complex ones from whole grains and vegetables, Protein (mostly plant based proteins and grass fed meat and eggs), and finally Fat (especially polyunsaturated fats like Omega 3 and 6 which are essential for health - which can come from nuts, seeds, and fish). It is extracted vegetable oils and damaged oils like fried foods and trans fats that are the enemies. Olive oil is heart healthy! It is a monounsaturated fat. Sugar is the real cause of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. Sugar, too many omega 6 extracted vegetable oils and refined grains are what cause inflammation in the body. Stop demonizing Olive oil or coconut oil (healthy saturated medium chain triglyceride), they are important for your health!
You can get ENOUGH fat from avocados, nuts, seeds etc. along with other hundreds of nutrients which are not present in oils. Stop believing tabloid magazines "science" and read some serious studies.
Olive oil is def healthy. Probably the healthiest oil. Kind of dumb to say pouring it on pizza isn’t good lol. Of course not. But 3-4 tbsp a day with an overall healthy diet is going to be a good thing.
@@Spock_Rogers Millions of consumers today prove it is healthy. As did people for thousands of years. Some obscure study somewhere cannot debunk real-life proof.
I am a Mediterranean and OLIVE OIL it's one of the healthiest oils in the entire world! Yes, it is a fat but it is necessary for the human body! We aren't cows eating pasture greens all day long, which by the way it's what they should be only feed with! Promote health food in animals and let in peace our olive oil!
There is no suck thing as healthy oil as far as consumption goes. Now if you want to rub it on your skin it may be healthy topically. But ingesting any oil is completely unhealthy and unnatural.

High insulin is what makes you fat, bread makes you fat, cookies chips etc make you fat because it has a high glycemic index while fat has no effect on insulin, it keeps you feeling more saturated than eating some bread which makes you more hungry, I consume olive oil every day and feeling much better than before, combining it with fasting feeling better than ever and losing fat
@@vegsource You can't be serious..... comparing smoking, a habit that offers no benefits whatsoever, wreaks havoc on your health and isn't necessary at all is the same as the healthiest and most nutritious fat in existence? You people are bought and paid for by Big Pharma. So many crooks on youtube these days claiming to be Doctors. Take this clown Klapper and have him debate with Fung or Gundry, they'd school him under the table.
This man is incredibly misinformed, and the way he's projecting his misinformation is ridiculous. Fat is NEEDED for body function. Fat does NOT make you fat. Starches, refined sugars, and complex carbs make you fat because insulin spikes make you store fat. All oil should be used in moderation, but olive oil is certainly a healthier oil for human fat needs.
false. too many calories from ANY source will make you fat. You have a bias against starch and carbs, but if you were well informed yourself, you would learn that fish will actually raise your insulin more than POTATOES , despite having less sugar in your blood from the fish. Yes, you do need some fat for health. SOME. Not the huge amounts you've been led to believe. Even bananas have very small amounts of fat as does many other foods. But the amount we're getting from these excessive fats is not healthy. You can cut calories overall by eating high fat low carb, but there's more to health than just getting slim. Take care of your arteries.
Lipitorforall Wrong... kinda. I've had this argument before, and I'm sorry to say that you're misunderstanding a few things. First, one study by the USA government showed that fish oil can cause an insulin response. Why? I don't know. but I don't recall any numbers that signify that insulin response being higher than potato. Second, "eating too much of anything makes you fat" is a common misconception. Actually, it's not as black and white as that. It's a very grey area. Energy (calories) itself does not make you store fat. Storing fat is a body mechanism that has a cause, and that cause is insulin. Calories can actually be discarded as waste if your body isn't equip to store it. If you're getting too many calories, but no insulin response, you wont store a lot of fat. If you're diet is 0% carb, 0% sugar, but 100% fat, you will get thin and die even though fat has a lot of calories. As far as arteries goes, multiple studies show that arteries are generally effected by certain types of fat. For instance, I recently read 2 studies showing natural meats have zero connection with heart disease or diabetes. Instead, it's processed meats. Fat does not = artery clogging. It comes down to types and ratios. Again, it's not black and white.
+AllisterBlack I did see the study (I'll try to find it) showing chicken, fish, and red meat do in fact raise insulin levels higher than potatoes, and even white bread. You're accurate that the mechanism for fat storage involves insulin secretion, however, the more food you eat (more calories you consume) the more you're body will secrete insulin - even from a high fat meal of protein (meat). Overall calories will always matter - regardless if we follow the insulin hypothesis or not.
Lipitorforall I know that certain proteins can cause insulin spikes, and some hormones as well. Perhaps either of those things is what causes insulin response from eating some types of fish. Either way, the vastly dominating cause of insulin production is Carbohydrates, so by managing that, you will lower your fat storage no matter how much fat you consume... technically.
+AllisterBlack That's exactly opposite of what I'm seeing from the data. animal protein drives insulin MORE than carbs, from I'm seeing. Carbs raise blood sugar more quickly, however much more insulin is mobilized via meat, fish, and fowl consumption than does carbohydrates in general. So under the insulin hypothesis we would see more obesity in low carbers because more insulin is actually mobilized. The fact that low carvers lose weight actually undermines the insulin hypothesis then. Meaning overall calorie consumption is the more likely reason for weight loss - especially when we replace things like bread (2 slices approx. 1-200 calories) for more "non-starchy vegetables" (35 calories per cup of leafy greens). I'm open to opposing information, but I haven't encountered an effective response that interprets more accurately what I'm seeing.
I haven't hear so much lies in such a short time before! What is true? - You ain't get fat if you consume olive oil. Unless you combine it with carbs. Contrary eliminates hunger. - Greeks are fat because they eat a lot of bread. - Olive oil does not harm the cardiovascular system. Contrary contains oleuropein which is very very beneficial for the heart.
No its not. Olive oil when cold pressed use NO CHEMICAL at all. It taste delicious and healthy for you. Palm oil in my country, where it is cheaper, contain tons of trans fat. And you guess it, Malaysia is among top country high in obese, diabetes, and heart problem. I literally replace all my oil from palm oil and other crap vegetables oil to olive oil. Guess what? Italy has better heart disease outcomes than the very unhealthy US, but still a lot. Overall, Italians have very similar health outcomes to the U.S. Nothing in those data vindicates olive oil.
I don't think so. Your saying Italy has health problems like the US. I doubt that very much the American diet is a lot of fast foods, deep fried, white breads and using a lot of canola oil, of which is high inflammatory.
Two of the 'blue zones' where people live the longest, healthiest lives on Earth are in Sardinia (Italy) and Ikara (Greece), where they use tons of olive oil.
With the greatest respect, olive oil is not 'bad' for 'us'. It has a great many benefits that cannot be disputed. An excess of it as with other foods, supplements, even water can have a negative effect on the body.

1 tablespoon olive oil = 14g fat composed of 1.9g saturated, 1.4g polyunsaturated, 10g monounsaturated.
No natural foods with oil is good it’s healthy fats
his point was that the saturated fat content of olive oil is way above 7% therefore suboptimal. the majority of nuts and seeds are in the 2-4% range for saturated fat so well within the optimal range, although there are a couple exceptions (macadamias are 12% and peanuts are 15%), it's a valid question whether those two should also be avoided.

It’s not only a highly anti-inflammatory diet but also a highly antioxidant one."
So it appears what actually made their diet so great has nothing to do with the fish but actually the beans, roots and tuber vegetables they were eating.
So you must Focus a few things
First fasting insulin levels its an 8 dollar blood test you can get from with your doctor ASK FOR IT MOST DOCTORS DON'T KNOW THIS. If your results are above a 9 (which most Americans are) YOUR GOING TO EXPERIENCE HEALTH ISSUES!!! cant stress it enough
Next focus on your sugar and carb intake (Carbs break down directly into sugar) Chances are you are eating or drinking things that can break down into sugar in almost every single meal. Examples: pasta, bread, pizza, muffins, rice, dairy (Sugar is very sneaky)
The key component in weight loss is managing your Hdl to triglyceride levels. If these two numbers are not equal or within a 1 to 1 or 1 to 4 HDL to triglyceride levels. Losing weight will be basically impossible without starving yourself. This is because of how your body is digesting your food. Since were talking about cholesterol try and limit LDL or the "bad cholesterol found in a lot of processed junk"
Your omega 3 to omega 6 levels!!!!!!!

He didn't. Olive oil is best thing you can give to your body.

Klaper, what a lot of kraper! I've eaten olive oil for years and I'm slim and healthy. The answer is low sugar low carbohydrates and high fat with greens which might contribute to you looking a picture of glowing health like me here in Europe.
Seems to me, by empirical evidence and science, that this Dr is right only about sugar intake causing disease. I lost 30lbs cutting out carbs and sugar while increasing fat intake, olive oil included. Could this info be dated, or just plain wrong?
I would say that you, me and millions of other people prove this video's info is completely wrong, except for the terrible sugar. You are right!
I use it on my skin, I think it's lovely with a bit of esential oils. But I don't want acne again so I will not ingest it:-) Btw, I'm 37 and was suffering from acne for over 20 years. So you can see why I'm in the mood for celebration!:-)
Unfortunately, something like around 70% of olive oil in the USA market is cut with cheaper oils and could be called counterfeit. Of course, it is hard to tell. If u want healthy fat and u want to know what u r really consuming, I would make fresh avacados, your go to fat

Order the vegetable soup? Soup is LOADED with Salt (Sodium) 1:40
and I do mean LOADED with Salt and Sodium.
TRUE!!
DCD I think he’s talking about refined salt, which is basically natriumchloride
Just eat lots of plants...and youll get all the sodium you need..... A few stalks of celery for instance has enough to last a very long time....
Olive oil is not as bad as other oils. Most people have a limit as to how "perfect" they wnat their diet to be. All life is a compromise no-one is perfect. If you eat a mostly vegan diet with some oil, you will get 99% of the benefts there is not need to try to be hyper prefect.
When he says "they want us to have a diet comprised of only 7% saturated fats", who exactly is "they"?
The FDA and other regulatory bodies suggest that the saturated fats shouldn't be above 7% in any of the oils.
Research shows that 7% or less leads to a significant drop in disease and premature death.

Heart attack has nothing to do with "chemicals". It is caused by cholesterol - the pasty fat, contained in palms and animals.

I had a young babies and I was the only one they had. They needed me and I needed them. We went thru hell and back, but never gave up never well. Someone up there loves me and everyone le truly believe that. He was with us always. Having said that, there are many components to health, food is one of them, but there is much more.

I have people in my family live over 90 years old with olive oil in their diets and leaving out unhealthy fat and processed food. I use shots of olive oil for my bodybuilding gains. Hope I live past 40yr!
Since when is olive oil mostly omega 6???
Extra virgin olive oil is great
YES IT IS!!
Yes
Plus, Virgin olive oil contains numerous phenolic compounds that exert potent anti-inflammatory actions
The consumption of VOOs rich in phenolic compounds seems to favorably modulate inflammation, which contributes to the development and progression of CAD.

What kind of Bizarro world is this guy from, humans have been eating olive oil for thousands of years!
Not really, not in theis amounts you idiot

I read your comment/explanation regarding Canola and Olive Oil BUT didn't quite understand.

I can see the bad 6 to 3 ratio of olive oil, but the saturated fat argument is bogus. That's part of the argument that got us the epidemic of obesity.
*EVERY OIL IS PROCESSED FOOD WHETHER YOU ADMIT IT OR NOT*
Guess what? My blood glucose level went down from 12.5 mmol to 7 mmol in ONE DAY.

I'm Italian. All the people I know produce olive oil, we all use it on a daily basis. Nobody I know is fat or has health issues. You all should try it on toasted bread
Olive is the best and healthiest oil. For hair and skin too.
Italy has better heart disease outcomes than the very unhealthy US, but still a lot. Overall, Italians have very similar health outcomes to the U.S. Nothing in those data vindicates olive oil.
Mamamia you are delusional.
