What You Need To Know About The New Curriculum’s Lesson Plan; As Teachers

I want to know more about indicators (code) and content standards, I have understood the rest but that's the only part that confuses me

Alright;
1. The Content standard refers to the expected level of knowledge, skill and/or attitude that a learner must attain at each grade level.
2. The Indicators are distinct outcomes that learners must exhibit for each content standard at each level of learning.
The curriculum has been designed to allocate specific codes to both the content standards and indicators. You are to use the codes provided in the curriculum but not to change them.
You would realize that if the content standard is 2.1.1 the indicator will be 2.1.1.1 which means, the indicator is more specific as related to the content standard. Or you can also see it as a breakdown of the content standard.

You can do your assessment during and at the close of the lesson depending on the kind of topic and teaching method you are using.
Therefore, there is nothing wrong doing your assessment at the Phase 2 or 3.
Doing it at Phase 2 can even help you know how the learner is assimilating the learning process and you can quickly make some remedies at the Phase 3.

Personally, the new curriculum is one of the best in our history because of its structure.
The underlying aim is to make teaching more practical and activity based. The learning should transform the lives of the learners in all domains. Consequently, they will become useful citizens in our society.
However, it involves more research and adequate learning resources before it can be successfully implemented or executed.
This is where the problem lies, as far as Ghana is concerned.
Looking at the resources available especially in the rural, deprived and remote areas, the objective may only work on paper.
This is my sincere opinion.

Please how can one develop the starter of a lesson

It depends on the lesson you are treating.
Develop it from what the learners already know in relation to the topic.
Get them to start sharing their views on that important information they have in their minds.
Lead them to the topic by commenting briefly on what they’ve shared based on their own experiences and gradually introduce the new topic.
Then you can go ahead and tell them about the lesson objective(s).
With this, you can get every learner’s mind to start the new discovery by themselves.

Please, could you explain the RPK in the Old Curriculum and how it has been captured in the new curriculum?

The RPK is simply the Relevant Previous Knowledge that pupils are expected to have in relation to the new lesson to be taught.
This means you always have to build on what the pupil already knows about the new thing about to be taught.
This is because, no pupil's mind is empty and the teacher should always be able to link what is on the pupil's mind to the new lesson.
In the new curriculum, it similarly comes as the starter under Phase 1 of the lesson plan. Here, you prepare the minds of the pupils drawing their knowledge from what they already know and linking it to what you are about to teach.

Not exactly.
The Phase 1 is just like the introduction or starter. What you do with the learners briefly before the main lesson.
