Wow. Thanks. There was a big gap in my teacher education between knowing what the standards were and actually planning to meet them. I've been going it alone since the beginning. Knowing where to look for help is itself very helpful. Thanks again.

Ok, this video was groundbreaking for me. I'm not a teacher, but am wanting to move into a teaching space. I'm also teaching a specialized field for a specialized certification and kept getting stuck with "where do I start" and then overwhelming myself with how much there is to cover. The concept of not just knowing the standards but taking advantage of them as ready-made objectives was both focusing and time-saving. I have a new respect for standards, competencies, and study guides. Thank you!❤🎉
This comment makes me so happy! I’m filming a few more about how to use standards and test specs to prepare your students for the state exam. Stay tune 🌟

How to curriculum map? The answer according to this video is that we look it up on our district site. What if your district doesn’t have it? Or what if you are in a charter school or private school and can’t access a greater districts website?
When a district-provided curriculum map isn't available, or if you are in a charter or private school that cannot access resources from a larger district, you can still create a curriculum map by following these steps: 1. Identify Standards National or State Standards: Begin by reviewing the relevant national or state standards for your subject area and grade level. These standards will guide what students need to know and be able to do by the end of the course. School-Specific Goals: If your school has specific educational goals or outcomes, include those as well. 2. Determine Scope and Sequence Scope: Decide on the breadth and depth of content to be covered. This involves selecting the key concepts, skills, and knowledge that students should learn. Sequence: Organize these elements in a logical order, determining when each will be taught during the school year. Consider the progression of skills and concepts from simple to complex. 3. Break Down Units Unit Planning: Divide the school year into units based on the scope and sequence. Each unit should have a specific focus and cover a set of related standards. Time Allocation: Estimate how much time you will spend on each unit. This helps in pacing your instruction. 4. Design Assessments Formative Assessments: Plan ongoing assessments that allow you to monitor student progress throughout each unit. Summative Assessments: Create or identify assessments that will measure student mastery of the standards at the end of each unit or term. This is great for new teachers! Hoping you can help...... 2 questions with difficult answers: How to teach 4th graders from the textbook and curriculum to below grade level readers (entire class reads at k, 1st grade levels)? How to prevent a lesson from taking 8 blocks instead of the 2 or 3?
Teaching below-grade-level readers can be challenging but rewarding. For 4th graders reading at K-1st grade levels, consider incorporating multi-sensory activities, small group instruction, visuals, and frequent checks for understanding. Differentiate instruction by breaking down content into smaller, more manageable chunks, and provide ample opportunities for practice and reinforcement. To prevent lessons from extending beyond the allocated time, prioritize essential content, streamline activities, and maintain a structured pace. Utilize effective classroom management strategies to keep students focused and on task. Flexibility is key; be prepared to adjust lesson plans based on student needs and progress. Collaborating with colleagues and seeking support from instructional coaches can also provide valuable insights and strategies for time management. ~Yiana Team Member at Kathleen Jasper LLC
I see alot of teachers using varying teacher resources. I rarely see teachers say here is the textbook we use and we will take the scope & sequence to lesson plan from. Great point! As a teacher, my first inclination is to plan based off of the required textbooks and to make sure any supplemental material enhances and aligns with the school's learning objectives. I agree that we don't see that from many teachers online, but it would be helpful.

Congratulations on your new job! We're glad to hear that our videos have been helpful to you. As you begin this journey, We suggest visiting your district's website to check the standards to use with your lesson plans. Often, districts offer curriculum maps and sample lesson plans that align with these standards, providing valuable guidance and a solid foundation for your teaching approach. Thanks for watching. I used this method the entire time I was a teacher, so yes, they have helped my practice. Every district is different. Some provide tons of resources, while others have limited resources. You have to explore your specific district's websites to determine what you have available. Have a great day.

Good question. Standards are the learning benchmarks set by the state. They are organized by grade level and content area. The curriculum is what you do to teach to those standards. For example, the standard: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking is for 3rd grade ELA. The activities, books, exercises, etc is the curriculum. Yes the standards progress in complexity as the year goes on and as the student progresses through the grades. I will do a longer video on this soon. This is a great question. Thank you for taking the time to ask it.
Hi. Miss Kathleen. Can you guide me please as I have moved to TX USA last year. I was a teacher for virtually impaired students in Pakistan for ten years. Now I am in Texas. What I need to do to become a teacher of the students with special needs? Should I prepare general core subjects tx teaching certificate test or something else…. Test? I’m new here please give me some suggestions. Thank you

You can in the US. Usually, the curriculum maps are on the district website and are accessible to everyone. I am not sure how it is done in the UK. Thank you so much for watching. :)
That's ok. You can map it out yourself. Just take the standards for the year an d divide them into 4 quarters. If you have a textbook, use that as a guide.
That stinks. You can do it yourself. I have a new book out called Teach: A Survival Guide for New Educators. In it, I go over lesson planning and using the standards. Yes!!! We recommend following the standards as a home school mom/teacher because then your students are on the same track as the district. Of course you have more freedom as a homeschool teacher. But following the standards is a great practice :)
Amazing Video. At least I can come here and vent. Everyone told me how good i am as a teacher' aide. But not a single ones has time to sit down with me to walk me through this exact formula. Wow I said thanks to very few that supported me, including some of my classmates and great Professor in college (a reading specialist). So secretive and mean people are in the system. Or they don't know whatever the heck they're doing. I felt that everyone was against me until I found you, Kathleen Jasper. Thank you again for giving me the glasses as I was a blind. 😎🤓

And also, homeschool families get all the district resources. So you may be able to get a log in to access some of those links in the curriculum map.
Amazing Video. At least I can come here and vent. Everyone told me how good i am as a teacher' aide. But not a single ones has time to sit down with me to walk me through this exact formula. Wow
I said thanks to very few that supported me, including some of my classmates and great Professor in college (a reading specialist). So secretive and mean people are in the system. Or they don't know whatever the heck they're doing. I felt that everyone was against me until I found you, Kathleen Jasper.
Thank you again for giving me the glasses as I was a blind. 😎🤓
It's tough when you feel isolated or unsupported, but finding someone who can provide clarity and support can make a big difference. Keep pushing forward, and remember to acknowledge those who have been there for you along the way. 😊👍
