*After Edward Left Us Things Have Never Been The Same...*
He was found recently while being sold at an auction
The problem is that Drayton Manor is a theme park; their priority is entertainment, ride safety and revenue. There's maybe only one or two members of staff who care for the models and know what they are. Sadly, they can't just change how the models are treated by the park as a whole because they're not managers or anything like that.
I've spoken to one of the staff who does care in person when I visited a few months ago, and he genuinely cares for the models and is so happy to hold them, but he gets a lot of bullying online from fans who don't understand there is little he can do without jeopardising his job.
Have I seen you somewhere before?
My railroad club has the same issue, we have several older unique locomotives running which are in need of repair, however money for repairs and even sourcing parts can be quite a task.
I'm surprised that these models are on display and running, even in a tired state. While its great to highlight these issues, but without knowing the real reasons of the park, criticism should be restricted to the park not the people who keep them running as my guess is many of the staff are not experienced in the repairs required to be undertaken to bring them back to near original state and those who are trying to keep are often doing so with the little funds available to them.
The staff who care should show the management these videos and show them that Drayton Manor will have a reputation as the place that destroyed original Thomas props if they're not careful which may convince them to at least consider changing their current practices. I know that I'd contribute to a crowdfunding campaign aiming to buy the resources necessary to restore the broken props.
at least he is trying
At Least SOMEONE Cares For The Models There. Honestly, My Favorite Model Is Hank. Hope He Is Doing Good. From A Video I Saw, His Model Looks EVER SO SLIGHTLY Clean
The most horrific part of this exhibition is the fact that they have Daisy pulling a milk truck. Don't they know that's bad for her swerves?
they erased her mind
She is, after all, highly strung. 😂
@i like memes still don't get how can these models be so damaged if they're supposed to be static
@i like memes It really is.
That's not daisy, that's actually BoCo, they just slapped some makeup on him and passed him off as daisy. The real Daisy is in hawaii with junior riding the waves
Sad that japan treats the models better than thomas' home country
Is James there?
@@stormy_person_4204 according the ttte wiki "One of James' models is on display at the Hara Model Railway Museum and is currently wearing his alternate happy face. Another one was on display with the other Steam Team, the Fat Controller, his crew, his car and Tidmouth Sheds on display at Drayton Manor and wore his happy face. It’s kinda sad knowing we will probably never see Toby or Stepney again.
I hope we find out where they went.
The latter gone for even longer. The last time we saw Stepney was in a disgusting S12 episode. The only plus was giving an outside character a lead appearance rather than just a Steam Team member.

I always liked toby
Hell I still have an old toby

Toby wasn't stolen, he made an escape attempt that sorta worked out. They say he was working with Harvey, thinking they would both escape. Terence, being the kind soul, offered to help. But things didn't work out.
It was supposed to be an easy job. Toby and Harvey knew there was a small hole in the back of the tunnel that could be reached via a hidden set of points. They waited until nightfall, when the guards went home and the other models were turned off at night. Terence snuck through the tunnel hole to turn the layout back on. He succeeded without issue and came back to switch the points. Toby and Harvey left their sheds along with the breakdown train to lift themselves onto the getaway vehicles arranged by an unknown recruit. It was all going well, the tunnel came in sight, but another item came in sight.
Rosie. Someone had tipped her off about the escape, most likely the unknown individual. She refused the escapees entry to the tunnel and sat on the hidden points. Harvey who was in front, charged at her, damaging her front. But she fought back. She hit him so hard he derailed and his face came off. Toby was horrified, seeing his friend be hurt like that. He felt someone couple up behind him, but he didn't care. He surged backwards, then forwards after a few seconds, ripping the coupling off of the engine behind. He used every ounce of weight and steam to barge into Rosie, but it was no good. His wheels were slipping. Rosie was too strong.
One moment Rosie was pushing hard against Toby's weak buffers, the next she was on her side. Terence had rammed her with his plow and chipped it. He told Toby to run. To run and don't look back. Toby thanked Terence and promised he would never forget him. Terence lifted Toby with the force of his plow onto the lorry.
The truck trundled out of view with Toby on the back. Terence decided to break the points lever. He never wanted to go through that again.
It is rumoured Toby went looking for the Hara Model Railway Museum in Japan. But nobody knows if he made it or not...
tobly made it on the hara model railway
Before leaving for Japan Toby decided to hunt down some of his old chums from the 80s and 90s. He visited James in his Stately home and then Percy and Boco in a dusty barn in Yorkshire. His final amigo that he met before leaving was Bertie who he found collecting dust in a charity shop in London. He also bumped into Peter Sam who he found inside a carboard box in a warehouse on the outskirts of Bristol After this he boarded a ferry and set sail for America. When he arrived he briefly reunited with Duncan and Harold in the back of a museum before beginning his long trek across the United States. He was last seen at a KFC in a small town in Colorado by a small child who thought he was an electric toaster.
Looks like Stepney was the one holding him back

I think japan has some of the original models from the show and they look great, with no damage to the models and with the original faces for the models, they look way better than the ones from drayton manor
Yeah I was thinking that too. I don't know which characters or how many exactly, but some are saved at the Hara Model Railway Museum(I'm pretty sure that's what it's called). From what I know, they treat the models way better.
@@DmanOfficial15 They basically have Thomas thru Oliver, Bill and Ben, Mavis, the large scale Skarloey Railway engines, and a few others...

@@damianhendriks6162 Well that stinks, but is it just one engine or are there other faults?
It really goes to show how little respect these people have for the models. I love how they weren’t just tossed in the trash after 2008, but to see how these childhood icons are just breaking down with minimal maintenance really makes us appreciate what we once had.

I’ve actually recently been to Drayton manor recently. From what I could see, Toby has yet to return, however Thomas has returned. He doesn’t run anymore, but he’s there. And they seem to have fixed rosey’s motors.
Drayton Manor would never suit his grace...
"Duke said as he glared grimly at the atrocities of Drayton Manor..."
Now I see why His Grace died
As someone who lives about an hour away from Drayton Manor, I went there almost yearly as a child, gazing at the engines that were on my television, wondering where the rest of the engines were. Nowadays, I would prefer not to visit the exhibit, but if i did go, it would be a solemn and silent trip to assess damages and remember the previous models.
So.... u like ninjago
There’s always the chance that Toby was saved by a fan and is being looked after.
You never know
We can hope, and even if this is the case this fan would never make themselves public because they'd get in trouble for theft. However i will make an exception for theft if it is for the greater good of saving one of the Thomas models from despair, and neglect. All these characters must be preserved, maintained, and most of all loved. They brought us so much happiness, love, and warmth over the years, the least we can do is the same in return.

When he does this my dream, Take this models away from Drayton Manor then buy a railway make all the characters from the railway series into real life with all of them based on their real life model like Thomas being based on the E2 and as for the face wire the face like a animatronic with the faces moving fluently and hire people for the voices. Make the railway a vacation site for everyone to come and enjoy beaches, historic sites, Forest and With it bringing the Island of Sodor to life have kids interact with the engines and take pictures. Build a Museum of the history of Thomas and his Friends. Have the original models placed in case for all to look at and take pictures because of them being really old. Have a section of the museum be model railway layout of sodor with Coolprops making the models and the landscape just like at Drayton Manor only we take care of them when needing repair. As for the Tv Series hire the writers of the Trainz Thomas stories for the series. Have one of them be the narrator. Have Coolprops and the Thomas community make the models. Take the best aspects of each era of T&F and make it work. As for Awdry give Respect to the family with Loyalties for what his done for giving us this great franchise that’s been corrupted due to the corporations and overuse of Thomas everywhere
Drayton Manor handles these models the same way Mattel handles the show.

To True
Couldn't have put it better myself!
Are HiT Entertainment and Drayton Manor really blind towards negative criticism concerning their handling of the models?
I don't know how to respond about HiT. I think that they weren't aware about what was to become of the models after they sold them, and that they can't do much since they're under the ownership of DM.
Other people cares about theese models, but sadly draton manor thinks that kids deserve the worst
I bet the guy who stole Toby only did so to save him from a fate worse than death.

@@Steam_Tram_Studios Yeah, ThomasTankMerch. Thank god he owns most of the narrow gauge engines, since he actually seems to care for the models.
Yeah toby is lucky someone stole him anywhere is better than drayton
Its such a shame they are destroying my childhood characters its sad just looking at it. They look like shell of their former selfs. Its just sad.
To be honest, I wouldn't have had a problem if Drayton Manor came out and just said something like they're not sure how to fix the models, or lack the funds or staff to do so, because that could all be fixed rather easily. If its a lack of funds, I know I'd donate towards seeing the engines fixed, and brought back to some sort of presentable state. If its a lack of staff, or they don't know? There are how many people who have made Gauge 1 replicas of the character models with accurate tech? They could get people on that. Its sad knowing how these models have been treated, and I'm happy they're doing _something_ about it after all these years.. but, seriously. When an amusement park with an entire staff, board, and planning department is outdone by one guy in his garage, you know something's up.

They never had henry or gordon
The way they mistreat and disrespect these models break my heart, growing up with the original Thomas and Friends, I'm saddened to see Drayton Manor abuse and not look after these models especially Thomas and Edward...
How come in England drayton manor has there models in terrible conditions like it’s hell for trains while in Japan the hara model railway museum has there models spot on and look like the show
Its not American its England
Drayton Manor is a British theme park, not American. And the reasoning for that is that the people at Hara actually care about model trains, and respect these pieces of history.
Thomas is insanely popular over in Japan, the props are also in a museum that focuses on railway stuff so they’re more likely to know how to take care of the exhibits and props where as Drayton manor in the UK is an amusement park that doesn’t have this exhibit as it’s main focus and is completely overshadowed by other parks in the country like Alton Towers and Pleasure Beach
@@motorwayt-s628 I don’t know why Thomas is like god in Japan Thomas is British not Japanese but there still famous more in Japan then here and the uk
The person who stole toby: come, this is no place to die.
The person who "rescued" Toby, in my opinion, gets a free pass to heaven
Funny thing. When I saw that Thomas’s paintwork, I immediately thought of this video I saw, where a British guy said something like “Everything on the railway just accumulates this layer of grime. That engine’s been on a siding for decades. If it was running yesterday, it’d be just as dirty”
I guess the grime comes after model railways as-well
Wonder why they couldn't just put the real models on display, and get (or make) replicas to run, that way people can see something in action, while the originals are preserved.
To be fair. On a very very surface level. Some of the damage apparantly came with the models when they arrived. They have gotten far worse over time. Which I think may be down simply to the fact park staff handle them. Not specific museum staff.
The Hara Model railway museum also has some of the Thomas props and my god, they handle them with SO much better care than this disgusting dump
I reckon you should do a video about the Hara model railway museum, as it's pretty much the polar opposite of Drayton Manor. They care for the models a lot and aren't as damaged, so it goes to show what caring can do
Thomas got his old face back, as well as repainted wheels
Let me rephrase: They have been fixed e.g Thomas, Rosie and Edward is currently being fixed. Stepney I think has been bought and It wasn’t their fault Toby was stolen. They also have Molly and Hank who are in amazing condition!
Welcome to Drayton Manor: The amusement park that doubles as a model train graveyard.
Great music at the beginning! Also, I would like to hear more about Drayton Manor’s treatment of them!
You'd think the park would make a big deal out of these being the actual TV series props... we've been numerous times and have only just found out through your video...we thought they were just replica models...the whole exhibit is poorly executed and an afterthought of the park owners... I've spoken to someone who was in charge of the Drayton Manor and he said he'd tried to tell the owners that a lot needs updating in the park but his concerns fell on deaf ears and he left the job as it was on a downward spiral.
This channel proves that there is such thing as a mature Thomas fan
I'd go to that theme part if i were ever in the UK, just to see the models anyways.
This just hurts, seeing my favorite childhood characters die. :(
Probably the original Toby, who got stolen, is treated much better
Not the original plastic one. Drayton Toby was a specially commissioned replica that was never seen on screen. It was made using the same method and casts as the ones seen on screen though
@@furnessespeon where is the original screen used Toby then?
@@Full_Otto_Bismarck There were multiple. One made of plastic used in the classic series/early new series and two brass ones built to replace the plastic one (which was still used when they had to get Toby dirty). One is on display at Hara model railway museum in Japan.
Drayton Toby was also a dummy model like City of Truro, meaning he never had a motor. Which would explain why he was always stationed next to the Tower in Great Waterton.
@@furnessespeon specifically the original plastic body one, is the plastic one the one that is in Japan?
Drayton manner needs to learn how to take care of the models like how the hara model railway museum does
I can teach him
Worse condition then my Hornby locomotives. Well, some of them. Mine are sometimes perfect, or completely FUBAR. The TTTE props are all equally rundown.
If I owned a museum that had the original Thomas engines from the show, I wouldn't have them running around. I would display them in beautiful protective cases where they would be observed, as well as safe and sound.
It's a shame to see such amazing and wonderful models of our favourite characters from something we grew up with, being in such terrible condition. I remember seeing this twice when I went to Thomas Land and seeing those models, it really felt I actually arrived to the Island of Sodor and see some of the characters made the experience even better.
How much damage was done by Drayton Manor and how much before they got ahold of it?
Did HiT entertainment care about their models after wrapping up filming? Their scripts show they didn't care much about characterisation and continuity so I can imagine them not caring about other stuff.
Unfortunately I’m not the most certain on what was done before they got ahold of any models; but after there’s evidence of lots of neglect and countless examples of damage. It’d take forever to go through every example so I highly recommend checking out the Thomas Wiki for pics of such.
I will say though there has been an attempt to bring BACK the props more or less as of recently? As well as restore some to their former glory, I imagine that’s probably HiT’s doing but I can’t really confirm. You’re right they cared so little about the show when they made it I wouldn’t imagine they care much now either :/
It’s like they’re calling for help, desperate for release of their silent torture and mistreatment. Calling for their father, the Reverend Wilbert Awdry, from beyond the void for help and a sense of salvation from their suffering. Begging their “mother,” Britt Allcroft, to forgive them for the sense of failure they feel for not keeping up with the modern world.
Stepney was probs sent back to HIT as well as Edward and harvey
Drayton manor employees probably ram these things into each other after hours

At the world's largest S gauge layout in Cincinnati Union terminal, discreet blowers with filters on the intake help reduce dust accumulation. We had (before being taken down for renovation) the world's largest S gauge layout, a 1940-1950 era layout of Cincinnati the size of the south wing of the museum in the cincinnait history museum, just across from the Natural history museum.
