My dad bought two 60 series LCs in the early 80’s. Learned to drive on them...he still owns them to this day. One has 895,000 miles, one has 30,000 miles. Nothing but regular maintenance on the high mileage one, still driven daily, has never broken down...incredible vehicles.

sfakach t “off-road crappy vehicles”. The diversity of content is why I enjoy their channel. If you remove these “crappy” vehicles than how would average people know the limits on an average car. When they showed the capabilities of the Volkswagen i was very impressed and actually considered buying one. Something I would have never of thought.

Every version had a corresponding Diesel LC. Noticed you started with a later FJ40. I just traded away my 1967 (rust free desert) FJ40 with the 350 Chevy conversion, great vehicle, but a monster to turn without power steering. I moved up to a 2002 series 100 with only 130,000 miles. We both felt like we got a great deal on the even trade. Also, you didn't mention that all (or is it most) LCs have a white roof to pay homage to the original white fiberglass, riveted roof.

Mercedes Benz, Land Rover, the Toyota LC, and something else, Jeep maybe ?

If a tire was on the ground, it was going through whatever was in its way. Had it for 10yrs, put almost 200k hard miles on it & never had any problems whatsoever. Sold it with 277k miles on it for almost what I paid. Best vehicle I've ever owned. Period!

I've got to admit that my favorite is the old Iron Pig. In my younger days, I had a 76 FJ-40 which was fun, but my daily driver was my '69 FJ-55. It was a beast that made me feel like it could climb a tree, was a smoother ride than the 40 because of the wheel base, and had a lot of room in the back for hauling dogs (I had 3 greyhounds at the time). It even had an electric rear window! It's true that it wasn't a modern vehicle and lacked creature comforts, but it inspired confidence with it's brute force approach to design. On top of all that, the original Toyota F engine sat in the middle of a cavernous engine compartment that gave more than ample room to get in and work on it unlike later versions where the motor was a bit more wedged in. My only complaints were that it was a 3 speed and it had poorly designed 4 drum brakes- each drum had 2 cylinders and the lines had no portioning valves, making them a huge pain to adjust. Those things aside, I loved that truck.

My dad bought a brand new 84 FJ60 back when I was a kid and my sis and I loved the Landcruiser! We definitely went everywhere on it! The FJ80 was awesome but my family got the Lexus LX450 version instead.

I had an 87 LC with a straight 6 cylinder, auto trans, locking differential, rust bucket that got me EVERYWHERE & BACK. Rolled it, got it back upright, crushed roof, started it back up and drove it home. Like driving my living room into the country, have a 2009 now, even then I long for that old rust bucket. Truly the most fun and reliable vehicle 🚗 I've ever owned.

Well I am still stuck with the 77 Model Truck, akin to the Jeep Wrangler, it tough, simple and no nonsense vehicle.
When I was in Saudi, I drove a LC pick up 2002 Model 4.5 Liter Gasoline. Man, once driving, I dozed off for a moment at around 80 K's, hit a steel barrier, but survived with out an injury. That's how I realized how incredibly tough these are built. All I need to replace was the front steel bumpers, no damage to the radiator, or the Engine. Magnificently tough vehicles, built like iron nails. But Gas Guzzlers. Love these LC's.

We had a 1978 fj55. In 1993 my wife and I drove our two kids (aged 2, and 7 months, respectively) from Olympia WA to Punta Gorda Belize, where we lived for a year and a half. It was an amazing truck. We absolutely loved it. Of course, it was so loud that you couldn't hear the kids crying in the backseat, which was an added bonus. Wish we could have kept it, but it was too impractical when we came back home to The States.

I'd like a video on '80's and '90's Nissan Pathfinders!
They are very underrated, and you never see anything about them!
I think they are sort of a "poor man's Land Cruiser" - very durable and you can hit 300k miles on them without much fuss

Love the video but just have to add you forgot the one model that actually was the crossover between the more utilitarian models and the more modern. It’s the fj62 not fj80.
Had power windows, power antenna, power locks, rear heat, 4spd auto, and 1st with fuel injection. It was the crossover between the older to the more modern models.

I own a fully modified 2006 100 series. Yes fully modified. The 2006/07 100 series were the best two years combining stellar offroad capability with luxury appointments. The issue with the 200 series is that it was focused on luxury at the expense of offroad capabilities. The point of the LC was it's prowess offroad. Same thing happened to the Range Rover.

I really want to get a 200 series for overlanding and general offroading, but it’s just too wide and heavy. I wish Toyota would strip some weight, make it a little narrow while keeping the V8 and I would be in love.

I'm finally getting serious about fixing up my 1991 Fj80 series. It's been sitting idle for almost 2 years now. In the mechanics shop presently getting a fuel pump (genuine Toyota parts). Just ordered a set of tires on EBay for it. Clear coat is in rough shape. Only 160k miles on it. Spent $1,400 on new front axle bearings/seals a couple years ago.... may as well get it back to usable condition. But at 10 mpg...I won't be taking any long trips to west TX in it.

100 Series is what I want. That 4.7 v8 accelerates nicely, lasts forever and can tow a med sized rv trailer. There are no crummy ones. I drove one with 277k miles and it felt more like 77k miles. Everything worked on the electrics too. Effin baddass SUV. I agree a few less style points than the 80 or 60 series but floor that v8 and you will be in love.

Nice video! The 3FE was plenty fine in the FJ62, it just was a dog in the early 80 series because of the full time 4wd. I just rebuilt the head on my FJ62 (P.O. cracked it after it overheated) which has 220k miles on it and the compression is still factory spec. Drives great! That's now my main rig. Even more so than my 40.

Its about damn time they gave the 3rd row delete and center console option back. Even in Arabia where the fridge and ice maker were options on the 60 and 80 series, nobody used them for that. Nobody in America even used the fridge and ice maker in the old 80s Toyota Vans either.

Having had the pleasure of driving the majority of 4x4s on the PLANET, up to 1993, (plus a few 6 & 8 wheel drive vehicles) while working/living in the Middle East, I can say it was a joy to drive Landcruisers both auto & manual. I used them and Land Rovers at work. I owned a Chevy Blazer 5.7lt 4x4 for a while, however, no matter how much I admire both these 4x4s they still fall short of the Range Rover (RR) both with on and off-road capabilities/performances. Having owned 2 RR V8s you just cannot beat them. I used them mainly off-road so I could load up to drive thru the desert to dive sites for R&R Scuba diving. Superb in Sand, Rocks, Shingle, thick gooey sucking horrible MUD, crossing flowing Wadis using a "Snorkel" you name it the RR did it, full loaded with heavy gear! Had to pull out a few Landcruisers (LC) along the way as they just don't go thru mud that well. Same with desert dune sand! (in certain conditions you need to reduce the tyre pressure giving greater tyre surface area on sand/shingle).
One incident in the 1990s. I was driving, at night thru the desert as it was so much cooler. There had been torrential rain throughout the Southern Arabian Peninsula for 3 days - unheard of in living memory! A huge sand dune moved over the road and loadsa vehicles got stuck, including 3 Police Landcruisers. This was before the advent of Mobile/cell phones/tablets/computers etc so no calling for help! I spent about 4 hours towing all the vehicles out of the mushy sand as the LCs couldn't hack it and got bogged in themselves!
If the LC can now hack these conditions as well as the RR then I'd certainly take a look. But until then I'd stick to the Range Rover. (NOT the Discovery or the other models they do).
I'm sure there will be many LC owners that will disagree with me but this is my opinion having used LC, RR & Chevy Blazers on a day to day basis so I was able to judge performance both on and off road. My next vehicle is likely to be a Toyota RAV4 cos I'm poor now haha and live in UK, in about 6/12. I do love Toyotas. Y'all have a safe journey in whatever vehicle your driving.
