    Everyone giving this guy a hard time for not being the end-all expert to Land Cruisers. He does it as a hobby and because he loves it. Don't go tearing people down who are passionate about what they're doing just because they slip up on some answers. I've never been on a UA-cam channel talking cars with Jay Leno, and guessing nobody else commenting here has either. Imagine it'd be real easy to say the wrong thing when being asked questions by Jay with all the cameras rolling, whether you know correct answer or not. So until you are in his shoes, just give the guy a break.

      While I agree with you for the most part. Brian is clearly trying to leverage himself as the "man about town" to go see and purchase from. "I just sold one last month". These cars are now recently receiving some due comeupence, particularly amongst folks who would otherwise be called aging hipsters. They are hot, trendy if you want. As things go, these people have matured (made some money) and B would love nothing better than to capitalize on this and I'm sure he would gladly start selling you fine mustached gents these with a modern V8 Lexus powerplant complete with USB ports and Bluetooth. At probably are reasonable profit, say starting at about a $100. Am I wrong Brian? In all sincerity, I wish you luck. There are an awful (I did say awful) amount of them out there after all.

      If you find a truck for 100 bucks, I'm in! Secondly, I would love to be able to make a living off my hobby. Unfortunately, I haven't figured it out yet, nor am I really trying. Like anyone who would be put in my situation, I was super pumped to be able to show off my collection on Jay's show. I have sold 3 since then, but there was no profit to be made there. Just a dude who loves 60-series. Thanks for your comment bud!

      Brian Corsetti Sorry Brian, I meant a 100k and you were not put in that position exactly, no gun to your head. You're looking to expand into a business adventure, one that sees you profiting off the newly found interest in the Landcruiser. By dickheads with mustaches and lumberjack shirts, no fault of your own. It's just that you seem to deny the obvious. Everyone on the scene seems to be well aware of the types of folks suddenly looking to aquire these. Say, how long was your mustache and beard before you shaved? Did you give all of your flannel shirts away or did you keep a favorite?

    • @CorsettiCruisers
      @CorsettiCruisers 6 років тому +28

      I wouldn't say it's a newly found interest - people have been in love with Land Cruisers for years. Also, for you to say the whole Land Cruiser community is full of hipsters wearing flannel shirts is a very generalized statement to make. In fact, Cate Blanchett drove a Land Cruiser in the new Ocean's 8 movie, which is a very mainstream (not hipster) movie. Tom Hanks owns a Fj62 and 50 Cent's old rig was a Land Cruiser. I have men and woman reach out to me that range from lawyers to stay-at-home moms, the brutal reality is that these rigs last for generations and are being considered as the next daily driver classic. I'm not trying to capitalize on anything -- I grew up in a Land Cruiser and this is what I love to do. I'm sorry you feel that way about the Land Cruiser community, but we are not all dickheads with mustaches and lumberjack shirts.

I once tried to start up a business doing restorations on “my passion”, but it really isn’t something that I could do and make an actual living with...To do this stuff and do it the way I WANTED it done, I would need Leno cash. I wanted to have the dream garage, all the tools, paint booth, everything needed for proper engine and tranny work....and I wanted to make them EXACTLY as they appeared when they came from the factory. Down to the beautiful paints of the time...but with upgraded corrosion protection. I did one really good resto and sold it. Just not enough time, and a man has to eat...

Even with everything they have going in their favor, the reliability, the luxury, the space, the capability, customers still can't seem to see past that $86,000 price tag... I am the owner of a rust free top of the line Australian HJ61 Sahara VX, fitted with the 4.0 6 cylinder turbo diesel 12HT engine, and the same auto transmission as the two auto's that you showed. On top of all those 'bells and whistles' that your beautiful cruiser has, my VX has a fridge in the centre console, electric mirrors, sunroof, rear air conditioning, velour trim and roof lining and also third row seats to fit up to 8 passengers on board. Brian Corsetti was mostly right in his description of the 60 series. 60 owners in Australia are an awesome group of people (like i'm sure that they are in USA). Yes we are picky with who we choose to sell our beloved 60's to, yes they are becoming a collectors item and shooting up in value, yes they are notorious for rust, etc, etc. If I am correct, Australia did not get any option of a 4 cylinder diesel engine in the 60 (3.4 litre 3B or turbocharged 13BT), and those 60's were called the BJ60's, not HJ60's. The HJ60 came out with the slow naturally aspirated 2H 4.0 6 cylinder diesel or from 1986 onwards came out with the much sought after direct injection turbocharged 12HT 4.0 inline 6 engine. I'm mad about 60 series, and I intend to hang on to mine forever. I like to use my 60 for long distance, remote touring throughout Australia, so mine has been modified to suit it's use.

      We have a 'family' HJ60. Been in our family since 1984, (3 years old at the time), and it has over 600,000kms (possibly 700,000, 600,000 on the clock but the odometer didn't work for at one point, years). Engine has been rebuilt as preventative maintenance, still worked great but as it was pulled off the road for a while for rust repairs (only on roof). That was done as well as a 5 speed gearbox swap to improve highway performance. It is really good on fuel, will go further than 1,000kms on one tank (90L). We swear this will out last us.

      That’s actually considered low miles on a land cruiser😂. Don’t forget also that the Toyota/Lexus gx 470 is also a land cruiser and is one of the best SUVs ever made! I hate when they call the gx model a soccer mom car because it’s far from it. But the ultimate off road vehicle is the 76 series!! Amazing vehicle.

I have a 4Runner, 95 gasoline. Nothing can stop that car, it can deal with anything, sand, mud, rocky trails, snow. Now imagine an old Land Cruiser. Love them.

      @@Land_Cruiser_40 Ya, the pillars rust out, the roof disintegrates, but it's all steel and so it's all replaceable. Maybe they have a reputation for rusting out just because no other car lasts as long so it's not as noticeable on other cars. One thing that was obvious when my fj60 was new: Before it was attached to the chassis, before it was painted, the Entire body was immersed in molten zinc. You cannot say Toyota wasn't doing everything it could to minimise rust.

    Now lets get it right mate, the 60's in Australia also had the "HJ60". It was a four litre six cylinder known as the 2H. Apart from the early ones they had a five speed overdrive and would cruise at 120kph (70 + mph) and return 25 - 26 miles per (imperial gallon) and known to do a million kilometers with at least half of it off road.

      That could depend on the year, the earlier 2h wich came out about 1982 is a bit different to the later 2h in about 86-87 at a guess. I believe the later one had a slightly shorter stroke making quieter and less thirsty. Our 60 with the later motor would do 700 km to a tank no matter how I drove it. That's on the standard old 7:50 16 tyres, the wider after market tyres used a lot more fuel and sucked up HP too.
