The Cubs are so streaky. They can play well enough to sweep anyone out of the playoffs one week, then lose 3 or 4 straight series. I hope the Cubs make the playoffs because that’ll be the only way Bellinger will pick up his end of the mutual option next year.
no. Happ and Suzuki arent good enough support. Dansby is streaky too. They leave a shit ton of dudes on base, not enough slug. The rotation is good but too many samey low power sinker ballers. The bullpen is only one tier better than poop.
We were so sad to see him leave L.A., but almost everyone out here is happy he's doing so well for the Cubbies. He was/is such a popular player, even when he was not doing well. Such a likable guy.
As a Dodger fan I genuinely believed he was done, and his ceiling was now a GG center fielder w maybe a .750 OPS. But how could I ever count out the MVP. I am so glad Belli is back, I’m about to shed a tear. 😭
I knew he still had it in him. Genuinely think the change of scenery helped too. As sad as it is to see him on another team, I can't help but be glad that he's back.
He’s such a likable guy, you just can’t not root for this man. I’m a Dodger fan but I had to add MLB TV just to watch Belli/Cubs games. It’s great to see you back again, kid. I’m rooting for you and your Cubs guys all year, just not when you play us. Haha. We’re all rooting for you in Los Angeles! P.S. And Chicago….lock him up for many years!
I hated him for years after we lost to la in 2017, not as a person, just as a player, but i could never imagine 6 years later wed have a completely new core with him as an essential part. Hes prob my fav player now its crazy
His shoulder injury during the 2020 WS also hindered him during 2021. The shoulder injury recovery compunded with the leg injury is a lot to account for the insane drop for 2021 and 2022. Sucks that happened.
I'm impressed that you mentioned his broken leg and the bad idea to swing through it in the cage. Dodgers mismanaged his injuries. He also had cracked ribs from Gavin Clutz Lux crashing into him in the outfield. Nice report!
Maybe some ego played into his struggles. He seems very humble now, but he might’ve gotten it into his head that he can swing at anything. He’s been pretty selective this year and only takes those giant hacks of his when he doesn’t have two strikes. Lots of singles with two strikes. Solid, unemotional at-bats since mid-April.
@CowboyKillerBeats Baez hasn’t come down yet. It’s no guarantee. Essentially the same circumstances happen to two different people. Baez is lost in the ego madness forever. Bellinger is not. All the credit in the world goes to Bellinger.
Bellingers fall was largely due to injuries messing up his swing! Now that he's healthy he's been amazing for the Cubbies! He's hitting 331 with a 939 OPS!
As a cubs fan I’m just hoping he signs with us the city loves him an you can tell he is having fun out there again just hope they don’t get cheap on me 😅
This video completely left out the shoulder injury that he suffered in the 2020 NLCS that caused him to have surgery on his right shoulder. As a Dodgers fan, I believe that they gave up on him too early...typical - they gave up on Pedro Martinez and could have tried harder to keep Piazza. Just like those two, I expect Cody to go on to greater things.
LOTS of LAD fans trashed this man and wanted him gone knowing he wasn't healthy. You can toss the manager in there also. The LAD quit on a great player for personal reasons, gave the keys to an avg hitter and worse CF at best to save money on a deal he earned, and knowing he wasn't healthy. Good for the Cubs and their fans, they're gonna love that guy.
Surprised you didn’t mention when he fucked up his shoulder big time in the 2020 World Series. It seemed like he didn’t fully recover from that since he wasn’t able to do his long stride swing until this year again. Could be wrong though
Great video but I think you should’ve documented his shoulder injury. IMO that’s way worse than his leg injury and I’m someone who have had the exact same surgery as him. It’s not an easy or quick recovery
I was surprised he didn’t mention that too as he straight up dislocated his shoulder. Which would also affect the mechanics of his swing largely as well.
A lot of good hitters fell off temporarily after the sign stealing scandal. I think that's why the original athletic article said it was "part of a much broader issue for Major League Baseball"
Except beli fell off due to an injury and yelich was due to not being able to use the replay station during the Covid year. Sign stealing had nothing to do with those two.
i have a weird feeling the cubs will do some miracle shit this year, (they already are) but i have a feeling we’ll see them in AT LEAST the NLCS with bellinger leading the way.
Unless that offense stays hot for another 60 games it's gonna be a big miracle if they do. They're not as talented as the 2015 team. Their ceiling is the WC.

I think between his leg and shoulder issues he just lost some bat speed and his mechanics weren’t as smooth. Seems like he’s getting back to what he used to do now
A lot of bandwagon fans wanted him out now they know they were completely wrong for not knowing baseball I always knew his problems were due to his injuries look at him now. He’ll be wearing a different cap when he goes into The Hall.
Dodger hitting coaches (yes plural) are not very good. They get too much credit for revitalizing hitters... like Muncy and Kris Taylor who are forever in the .200 zone.
