While they have the worst reputation when it comes to WS appearances, Ohtani will complete that team, to be a young powerhouse.
There's a common misconception that the Angels have failed to surround Trout and now Ohtani with talent. They have certainly tried, as they have spent so much in free agency since Trout's rookie year (Pujols, Hamilton, Wells, CJ Wilson, Upton, Rendon). What they have is a player development problem. Very few of their prospects that are supposed to plug in the holes ever pan out, ESPECIALLY the pitching staff. The rival Astros and now the Rangers have built successful teams because they're able to seal their holes from within without needing to sign albatross contracts.
Another thing to also point out. The Angels have one of the worst farm systems in the league (if not worst). There's been stories from players that have stated how awful it is being a minor leaguer for the organization. Stuff like people having to live in a camper van, their cars, being overly packed in apartments, not being fed properly due to the lack of access to quality food, and even one of their former minor leaguers Shane Kelso had to retire from baseball because the team wasn't paying him enough to afford rent. Stuff like this can affect the minor leaguers very badly with their development and it shows with the Angels with how rare they get players that pan out well in the majors from the minors.
pitching. they dont have starters who can pitch into deep innings, and their relivers are futile. their bullpen cannot be depended on to keep runs down. i still cant believe Anthony Rendon is the highest payed salary of any player in the mlb this season... its mind boggling to me. i work 1 million times harder than he does. injured and everything. and i barely make 40k.🥺 why do i even pray to a god who allows this elevated level of claptrap balderdash . ..😮💨
This. They used to have a great farm system and gutted it. As an Angels fan it pained me to watch happen and continues to be painful to see the unsurprising result. Since Arte decided to not sell the team I can only hope this GM can manage to convince him to rebuild it.
@@ericnelson4761 If ya compare both teams in the Dodgers and Angels, they're 2 complete opposites. One of the things that really stands out is how owners care for the team itself. In my opinion, the Angels can't become a great team as long as Arte is owner. Once he sells, that's truly when they have a shot to start building up to be a great team
@@blueflamexl9880 Most likely. Moreno has not looked to build a future for the franchise and has consistently only looked at the short term. He has no grasp on how player development impacts both the near term and long term success of an organization.
You can blame Arte Moreno for this tbh. He only cares about fan attendance, and money. Not winning. The Angels are never going to amount to anything as long as he is the owner. Sad.
Well Said!! I have been saying it for years! He doesn't know baseball at all!!! Never invests in Pitching, sad! They need baseball owners like the Dodgers!
2 players dont make a winning baseball team. You need supporting players. You need pitchers who are top of the line, you need other bats so opposing teams cant pitch around your superstars and you need good defensive players. You also need to manage your payroll well. Paying Rendon all that money to sit out 150 games per year doesnt help. Then finally, you need a good farm system. A system that supports pitchers and position players. A system that can fill gaps in your lineup from within, for cheap, so you dont have to recruit free agents. Im an Orioles fan so I know futility. And Im not sure what is lacking for the Angels but I am 100% sure its one (or several) of those things.
All of those issues start from the top. Not hiring competent scouts and management. If you have a shit owner, then the rest will be shit. See Arte Moreno
Its all on ownership. For years arte moreno neglected team depth, and instead just signed big flashy names. He also neglected scouting and development big time, leading to a mediocre farm system
As an angels fan I really hope that ohtani can win a ring even if it’s not with the angels, I don’t want him to end up like trout wasting his prime on a bad team
@@mrobbins5 Short sighted toxic fan view point bro. There's no reason to not appreciate greatness regardless of the team, but ESPECIALLY if they originated from your team first. Some people really need to just relax and enjoy the sport.
@@mrobbins5 Normally I would agree but with Trout and Ohtani who given this team max effort you just feel the need to root for them to win. Its been nothing but heart break seeing Trout playing lights out and only making one playoff series. Than they found Ohtani and he became MVP in 2021 and that should have been the spark but this team bad pitching is a hole that no offense can fill.
@@mrobbins5 -- I think this is an old mentality to have. Many people are fans of players more than they are fans of teams. A lot of it is because of fantasy sports and more of it is because not all regions have local teams so fans pick a team or players randomly.
Didn't the Angels draft like 20 pitchers in 20 rounds not too long ago? Also baseball is a team sport. Such a travesty that Shohei and Trout have a combined 0 playoff victories and Trout with 3 playoff games in MLB.
Drafting properly takes a good org. Just look at the Astros, Braves, or Dodgers. The only thing the Angels are good at is overpaying washed up bats and pretending like they tried to please the fanbase. They have never planned for beyond the current year's ticket sales.
Their draft strategy every year is to get college players that are ready to contribute within a year or 2 hoping that a couple will be a hit lol. They did get Silseth that year in the 11th round he looks decent so far.
imo Rendon was the nail in the coffin. Rendon admitted that he views baseball as "just a game" and clearly doesn't have passion. He hasn't even been showing up to games when he's been injured this year. I don't know why you would ever sign a guy like that to a huge contract, especially if you want to pair him with guys that have tons of passion and love for the game like Ohtani and Trout
He finished 3rd in MVP voting in 2019. Before that he was undisputed top 5 3rd baseman in the league for about 4 years. No one knew he lacked passion when they signed him
@@shoukatsukai I’m pretty sure the interview where he called baseball just a game was published before he signed with the angels but I could be wrong. I’ll check.
@@shoukatsukaiI feel like these things do get out. Like when the Red Sox gave Ellsbury a joke offer that he was never going to sign. They knew he was a whiny primadonna and a bit of a head case. So they let the Yankees waste $ on him. So on the same token, I can’t imagine that there was zero indication of that attitude before LAA dropped nearly a quarter Billy on him.
I don’t think the Angels have ever committed to a rebuild under the Arte Moreno era. In hindsight, the Angels should’ve committed to some form of a rebuild, instead of going for it every year during the early Ohtani years. With how the season is going, I expect Ohtani to leave for greater pastures and this franchise will be forced to rebuild. It’s a massive issue when the farm never improved during Ohtani’s stay as an Angel and anything that was promising got gutted this deadline.
UrinatingTree really puts it into perspective perfectly. Alot of the issue is a conbination of no player development and Moreno signing albatross contract after albatross contract after albatross contract.
They have problems, the biggest being ownership. Arte Moreno is only focused on marketing. He doesn’t make smart long-term baseball decisions and cripples his general manager with his demands. Just about any bad FA signing or trade has Arte’s hands on it. And once again, they made the dumb decision to not trade Ohtani but to also trade prospects in an attempt to make the playoffs which was highly unlikely. The only way this franchise moves forward is if Arte sells the team. They are nothing short of an embarrassment.
I hope Ohtani learns from Trout’s mistake. Do not, under any circumstance, re-sign with the Angels. There’s simply no changing the place and no amount of quality play can fix that.
The day the angels signed Ohtani I knew he was going to be different. It’s a shame the angels never got anything other than Oohs and Ahs with Trout and Ohtani together. Year after year they’ve showed glimpses of what they’re capable of. They started off 2021 and 22 on the right path but never actually made a real push to winning baseball. I’m an angels fan so I’ve watched nearly every game since Ohtani signed, I hate to say it but I don’t see it happening with the two on the team together.
Yup crap contracts to Pujols, Hamilton, Rendon, and now oft injured Trout will make the Angels even worst once shohei leaves. Angels are cursed with Arte Moreno.
@@BenDover-vs7ih Yeah and he is committed to staying below the luxury tax too. He got Ohtani for basically 7 mil per year over 6 years and still couldn't out a team together.
He doesn't like handing out big contracts for pitchers because they only pitch once every 5 days. He would rather overpay for someone that is in the lineup every game and that fans will pay to come see.
@@BenDover-vs7ih Exactly - but that's Arte's way of thinking and that's why he would rather spend big money on a batter rather than a pitcher. Look how well that's worked out for him.
As an Angels fan who is well documented in their failures the past decade, I can 100% say the Angels are cursed. It is true that ownership has made questionable free agency signings, developed a horrid minor league experience, and continues to hire incompetent coaching, yet something that perhaps only fans that watch them everyday realize; they are magnets to the most perfectly inconvenient timing of injuries and errors. This year more than any, as our GM goes out and ensures the utmost surplus of quality depth through trades and free agency signings, we experience injury after injury (Trout, Quijada, O'Hoppe, Ward, Adell, Urshela, Rendon, Neto, Stassi, Drury, Suarez, Warren, Moore, Rodriguez, Marte, Joyce, Bachman). Albeit, bullpen wise the Halos prefer to catch lightning in a bottle, rather than purchase quality high leverage arms, but the point still stands that even in seasons where players like Estévez and Devenski shine in the first half, they suddenly fall of the face of the earth at the most unfortunate of times. If a third of those players stayed healthy this season, this team would have never fallen so quickly as they have. I will say repeat day in and day out how much I despise being an Angels fan, but this year is the first year where I don't blame our front office (ownership is it's own story), because they pulled off very agreeable and likeable moves the past year to bring an Angels team with a ton of potential on paper, yet it seems the baseball gods have it out for us. I've never been one to ask for sympathy as a fan, nor give sympathy to other struggling franchises, but I feel of all organizations that deserve some sort of slack, it'd be the Angels. They've tried, and damn they've made a lot of good choices in the process. Sometimes you're just destined to fail.
Great write up. I believe the curse will be lifted once Arte Moreno leaves this Franchise. Let the GM's do their job and stop getting in the way. Crazy how many injuries hit this franchise this year. Look at all the dudes you just listed it's insane.
Arte Moreno has always had his sights set on his ROI. Seems like he believes he can hit two birds with one stone; create a marketable team that also can win a championship. Not that it’s this black and white but as the old saying goes, “Hitting wins ball games, Pitching wins championships.” (Also the angels cursed started when kendrys morales broke his leg)
The Angels never made the playoffs in years, but they haven't been able to build a good enough farm system that can supplement the needs of the team? The Padres and Mets show that just signing or trading for Superstars is not enough to win. They have to build also from within. Heck, the Boston Red Sox sold off their farm to get the reinforcements they needed to win in 2018. At that time their farm was no. 27 in the MLB. After 5 years, their farm system is back up to no. 3 with several already up in the bigs. How can they get and develop these prospects while getting worse picks than the Angels?
The Angels’ failure to capitalize on having both of these all-time greats at the same time is a historical folly. That being said, the sheer level that Trout just by himself has been at for over a *decade* for that dumpster fire of an organization cannot be lost in all this. I’ve never seen a more unsung superstar in any sport.
Do you have any idea what unsung means? Clearly not. Don't sit here and act like the fans haven't appreciated what he's done. Arte Moreno is one of the worst owners in baseball and a major reason the Angel's only sign big bats in the off season. Say what you will about how the organization is run but us fans don't deserve shit like this from other people. I mean we're the ones here after every losing season still rooting for them. Mike Trout was considered one of the best if not the best to ever play until Ohtani came along, explain to me how he's unsung?
@@lionelruiz3247 Angels fans should've been protesting for Arte to sell the team for a decade. The guy has NEVER tried to put together a winning org. He just wants big names to sell tickets.

@@NuclearHendrix The team is in Anaheim (26 miles away from LA) not LA, and the only reason they changed it to ‘LA’ is to leach off the marketing from it. So spare me the “they’re literally named after the city and original PCL Angels”. Also notice that the DODGERS ARE IN LA, so no wonder they adopted the original PCL logo.
@@InUteroKDC Anaheim is still part of the greater L.A area, same media market too. The Dodgers are carpetbaggers from New York. They're named after the people of Brooklyn who dodged trolleys, so there's nothing L.A about that 😂. Meanwhile, the so called "wannabe L.A team" is literally named after the city of Los Angeles and its FIRST sports franchise. Nothing but L.A roots and connections for the Angels!
As an lifelong angel fan, i think my fandom comes to an end here. This franchise is absolutely embaressing. It was incredible having the opprotunity to see two of the greatest players ever share the same team but there is absolutely nothing to show for it. I hope Ohtani signs with the Dodgers.
I think I'm going with you and I've been a fan, more or less, since 1973. I think we were better off when Disney owned the team, Moreno just seems a mix of clueless and star struck. But I hate the everything about the Dodgers, so I don't want him to sign there.
That’s just flat out wrong. If he didn’t want the angels to win, then he wouldn’t have spent the money he did on big name players. He wants to win, the only thing is that he makes horrible decisions.

Isn't there a report that the Angles Minor league teams are literally treated like trash. Oh and by the way the Radio guys I believe are the only team that doesn't travel on Road trips. Moreno is such a POS!!! Get rid of him and the curse will be lifted.
As a fellow Houstonian, I agree with Johnson, but the Watt era is so highly regarded BECAUSE we made it over the hump. We won six division crowns with Watt, and Johnson was there for the latter two. The problem is that we weren’t clutch, so we kept choking in the playoffs. That’s not a development problem or player problem, that’s a coaching and motivation problem.
One more for you. “Stockton to Malone”. As a Lakers fan, I hated hearing these words. But I cannot deny that Karl Malone and John Stockton are among the great power duos.
Arte Moreno has singlehandedly squandered a potential golden era in the franchises history. Aside from Ohtani and Trout, they've had some genuinely good/great talent come through the farm system. But it's all been wasted or traded away.
i found your channel and liked your videos and breakdowns but i haven't seen anything for the astros. astros are my favorite team and i don't see any content on one of the contenders and WS champion last year. i see hate videos from last years championship. could you do an astros vid like this?
Really this just goes to show how much different baseball is to literally every other sport. It's not an individual, or even dual player sport. It never will be. There are so many iconic players who have never won it all.
0:20 It is a shame more Americans do not know about McDavid and Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers. Unlike the Angels, though, I do believe McDrai will win a championship together in Edmonton.
To be fair… the halos front office deserves its downfall for being in denial and thinking they could make a playoff push instead of trading for half a farm system in prospects
Baseball is unlike any other sport. It takes more than 2 Goats to build a winning team. Theres alot of variables, and honestly if they traded both of them got 6+ really promising prospects. They would honestly a decent team in a few years if they get it done rigjt
The sad part is, I was always hoping the Angels can break out and finally see these two in the postseason. But that just wasn’t the case. The ownership clearly doesn’t care about turning the team to a winner
I think the last year of Ohtani's contract, while Trout and Rendon are both injured is probably one of the worst times to go "all-in." Not to mention their poor drafting and development tendencies meant that going "all-in" was trading bad minor leaguers for bad major leaguers. The team is going to be a mess next year. Every move that the Angels could have or should have done to make a run for it this year or in the near future needed to come before this year.
Arty Moreno has all the blame for this. He was on the brink of selling the team but they chickened out the last second. He doesnt want to pay for elite pitch and will go for star veterans on the field. Their farm system is ass and never have I heard the team being mentioned for upcoming rookies. Arty only cares about selling tickets with Ohtani's name and face on it. As long as he is there, the team will always be ass.
You're not wrong but it's Trouts fault for signing that contract and for believing that they would do what it takes to win and also improve their farm system. They haven't. Shohei won't fall for Moreno's nonsense and ineptitude and will leave next year. Fortunately his career can still be salvaged. Whereas Trout has only played in 3 (!!) post season games and that won't change anytime soon.
At least those Tigers teams that had Miggy, Verlander and Scherzer ALL in their Primes. Would at least go to the playoffs and make a couple World Series. The Angels can't even finish above .500
Since Ohtani will definitely walk during the offseason, they might as well try to convince Trout to be traded to get some type of haul back to undergo a full on rebuild. They could have gotten a very good haul of quality, prospects for Ohtani.
I’m just a guy from Buffalo who doesn’t watch baseball and even I know what a disaster this has been. I’ve asked this question for years….How the f is Artie Moreno allowed to be this bad? At least the Edmonton Oilers make the playoffs with their 2 all universe players, the Angels can’t even get to .500. It’s almost not possible.
The Angels are just like the Padres in this regard. They also overspend on established talent instead of also relying on their farm system to build the consistent middle-man roster that’s often needed to win a World Series championship. This strategy inevitably creates holes in a team and has caused the Angels to be set back a ton of money for no good reason.
I’m all for crapping on the angels as an organization, but this video overstates what Ohtani has done in LA. Mike Trout has won 3 MVPs, averages 40 HR’s and 102 RBI per season, along with 22 stolen bases over the course of 13 seasons. Ohtani has had 3 really good seasons with the Angels. It’s a bit unfair to act like they are some jordan-pippen duo.
@@peteyprimo7173 I'm saying it's his sixth season in LA, with 2 of them being pretty average, compared with Mike Trout who's averaged 40 HR and 102 RBI over 13 years. Acting like they're Jordan and Pippen over the course of a decade is ridiculous.
Baseball isn't about 2 players who get on base 25 percent of the time - all 9 players have to play well all the time. Look at the Orioles this year - they've gone from one of the worst teams of all time to leading the AL.
As a Dbacks fan I think Ohtani should go the Chicago Cubs. Big Market and bad division so playoffs playoffs playoffs. Cubs have a lot of young talent to win in the future too. Of course I think Dbacks would be a good option too with our young guns but NL West is a dog fight every year.
So you want to know how the Angels failed 2 superstars.... Very easy to explain.. The owner.. Artie Moreno... He is not interested in championships as much as he is into making profit $$$... That is the sad fact.. He is one of the poorest owner and his decisions and actions show this... He relies on the turn styles and jerseys sales to make money.. The way he looks at it is that if he has made a profit, all is good.. No incentive to win or to get anyone else including pitchers to help Ohtani or trout win... Horrible owner.. What a waste...
The Angels are, simply put, a poorly run organization. They have a long history of foolish moves and signings. I was happy for them in 2002 and am not a particular fan, but as a baseball fan in general, its sad to see mistake after mistake. Trout & Ohtani deserve better!
At this writing (8/14/23), the Angels are 59-60 having been clobbered by the Astros only eking out a 2-1 win. They need to go 31-12 to reach 90 wins and a playoff spot. If they play at their current pace with 43 games left (roughly .500), they will finish 80-82. It is doubtful that they will do this because, arguably, their second half schedule is 10-15% tougher than their first half schedule. Poorly coached, poorly managed, and poorly _owned_ team. The best way this can be remedied is for Angels fans to stop attending/watching them. Falling revenue is the only thing that _El Morono_ understands. He doesn't give a shit about winning.
The thing about baseball is, your players putting up insane numbers is how they give u the best chance to win. If u had a duo that were putting up crazy numbers but can’t make the finals, u can say that the way they play does not contribute to winning basketball. But when ohtani and trout played out of their minds, that is them giving the angels the best shot at winning, yet they still somehow missed the playoffs last season
injuries killed this 2023 team they had plenty of potential roleplayers who were contributing but went down with injuries they have 14 people on the IL right now its astounding.
As an Angels fan I can't even begin to tell you how many bad signings we've had that I knew were bad signings at the time. And by bad I don't mean just bad like a player won't perform. I mean bad like abysmal, as a player being so overpaid that it'll be a boon to the team. This has been going on for a decade and a half.
I have an easy solution to all of the Angels problems... They need to call up Christopher Lloyd and get the Angels in the Outfield back together again.
When we won the whole enchilada in 2002 was a good example of that. We had good solid players who all contributed but no real "star" (Salmon might be the closest) Glaus, Eckstein, Kennedy, Spezio, Erstad, Anderson, Molina...even Fulmer....they all did their part
Lets just wait until they are eliminated cause it would be so magical to see them get to October somehow. We all want to see Trout and Ohtani in the postseason
Trout and Ohtani can leave whenever they want. No one is holding them hostage. The REAL question you should be asking, IS Why haven't they left yet? And this is coming from a truly losing Halos Fan. It’s hard being A angels fan two generational stars and just being wasted I won’t blame shoei if he leaves he deserves to win and be in the postseason so does trout
There’s no sport where stars matter letter than baseball. Even if you sign a 10 WAR megastar to take over at a position for a replacement level guy on your average ball club, you’ve gone from 81 to 91 wins. Which means that you’re likely looking at having to win 3 series just to qualify for the World Series. It’s not like basketball where Jokic surrounded by a few average players and one Jamal Murray can be champion, or football where you essentially swap Jameis Winston for Tom Brady, run back with everyone else, and go from below average to Super Bowl champs.
If I were a star recruit or a star getting ready to be traded - I would refuse to play for the Angels. Their whole track record is one of absolute ineptitude. Paying money to keep generational talent while doing NOTHING to build around said talent. Throwing money away on average players and trying to win without pitching. A 12 year old could run that franchise better. If they picked me first in the draft I would refuse to play for them and go to college instead. That's why NOBODY can sell me on the whole Mike Trout wants to win bs - if he'd really given a damn about winning he would never have re-signed with the Angels. If Ohtani stays then he's another one who doesn't care about winning. Some guys just like being comfortable and playing baseball while putting up big numbers without the pressure of being competitive in a big market. They WASTED Trout's entire career - or rather HE wasted his entire prime with them because I would have demanded a trade YEARS ago rather than sit back with that false humility and not wanting to make waves type of attitude. Those unwritten rules need to go as well. Ultimately this is a business and you have to look out for YOURSELF. Teams aren't loyal - they'll get rid of you if you don't produce - so shouldn't players act accordingly? If the front office isn't producing a good team then it's time to pack up and move on. I can only imagine Trout on the Dodgers or Red Sox. Instead he was a damn ANGEL his entire career. Now they aren't going to get anything in return for Ohtani and they deserve it. He's given them some of the greatest baseball ever played and they've given him NOTHING in terms of putting together a competitive baseball team. They thought they could win off the backs of Trout and Ohtani which is laughable. I hope Ohtani goes to the Mets and pairs up with Kodai Senga.
True, the worst owner hires the worst G.M., they need 2solid relief pitchers. They also need a top starting pitcher, they need to get Snell from the Padres, he's going to be available. This is the Angels G. M. last year, get rid of him, he's the worst G. M. ever.
As a lifelong dodgers fan, i’m okay with the angels failing. But i feel bad for their fans. 2018 was also Shohei Ohtani’s rookie season and mike scioscia’s last season as manager.
In 2002 the Angels were all about baseball. Everyone was there for the love of the game. The fans were true baseball fans and totally hyped up the team. There was a new star every night (which you could claim there were no stars, just everyone was awesome). The rally monkey was so fun and it WORKED!!! Then Moreno bought the team and it became all about money and wealthy people being seen. No one who went to the games cared about baseball anymore. The attitude completely changed. They're not the LA Angels. There's only one team in LA and that's the Dodgers. They're in Anaheim. So they're the Anaheim Angels. Moreno needs to go and be replaced by someone who loves baseball more than money. The funny thing is that when you do it for the love of the game, the money will come.
It’s a combination of mismanagement and misfortune. Too many bad contracts, too many injuries. After Shohei leaves I wouldn’t be surprised if Trout asks for a trade.
Arte Moreno cares about what goes in his pocket and not the product he puts out. He capitalizes on these two guys for ticket/merchandise sales and neglects everything else LITERALLY. Moreno refuses to invest in the minors, sign competent players, and meddles with huge signings that end up handcuffing the team (rendon, Pujols, and Hamilton. Moreno is the worst owner in sports and I cannot wait till he is gone no longer the owner of my favorite team, it’s maddening watching these two generational talents be wasted.
It’s over and got nothing in return if they don’t want to win trade trout not trading Ohtani will put the back 5 to 10 years and this comes from a life long fan. This brakes my heart.
That fanbase will also eat him alive the second he does something less than perfectly. I hope he signs somewhere where people will actually appreciate him instead of being cruel vultures.
Poor Mike Trout. He is one of the greatest players of our generation. Certainly for an 8 - 10 year stretch. He wasted his whole career. At least Ohtani won't do the same. He will be a Dodger.
I hope they trade Mike Trout. He's such a loyal guy I'm sure he would never requested a trade. But it would be nice to see him playing in some meaningful games on a team that matters.

Sad.
100% agree. It's a shame. Goodbye Shohei.

@@mrobbins5 -- I think this is an old mentality to have. Many people are fans of players more than they are fans of teams.

I don't know baseball but I know 2 MVP's in 1 team and still never gone to the playoffs is wild
imo Rendon was the nail in the coffin.

Ohtani is not about money, but just want to win. He verbatim said that. Let him go. Angels does not deserve him.
Absolutely spot on!!!
couple of 500 ft home runs in the first 2 innings for Trout and Ohtani for marketing, while the Angels lose the game 8-2
Oh this title aged beautifully!

As an Angels fan this was nothing I didn’t already know, however it was one of the hardest and saddest things I’ve ever watched. Great content 👍🏼
Thanks!!
I hope Ohtani learns from Trout’s mistake. Do not, under any circumstance, re-sign with the Angels. There’s simply no changing the place and no amount of quality play can fix that.
I agree with u but so damn hard to turn down $400+ million
The day the angels signed Ohtani I knew he was going to be different. It’s a shame the angels never got anything other than Oohs and Ahs with Trout and Ohtani together. Year after year they’ve showed glimpses of what they’re capable of. They started off 2021 and 22 on the right path but never actually made a real push to winning baseball. I’m an angels fan so I’ve watched nearly every game since Ohtani signed, I hate to say it but I don’t see it happening with the two on the team together.
Arte cares about offense. His goal is to trot a team putting up 8 runs per game. Only problem is his team gives up 10 runs per game.
@@Setzer777 Because Rendon has been in the line up every day since his signing.

Losing on the other hand, lol
The Angels never made the playoffs in years, but they haven't been able to build a good enough farm system that can supplement the needs of the team? The Padres and Mets show that just signing or trading for Superstars is not enough to win. They have to build also from within. Heck, the Boston Red Sox sold off their farm to get the reinforcements they needed to win in 2018. At that time their farm was no. 27 in the MLB. After 5 years, their farm system is back up to no. 3 with several already up in the bigs. How can they get and develop these prospects while getting worse picks than the Angels?
Yup the angels should look to Tampa or the giants and copy their system.

Yep, the team's owner is to blame. He needs to sell.
Answer: Arte Moreno
When Trout and Ohtani retire, i hope there is a sit down interview on how they felt during there time and experience at the Angels.
There certainly will be.
They've needed pitching for years and still never committed to signing any great FA starters
Arte would rather give that money to China Man Rendon, Hamilton and now oft injured trout. Shohei is already gone.
At least those Tigers teams that had Miggy, Verlander and Scherzer ALL in their Primes. Would at least go to the playoffs and make a couple World Series. The Angels can't even finish above .500
The angels are cursed until they drop the Los Angeles from their name. They had no problem winning when they were the Anaheim angels
Since Ohtani will definitely walk during the offseason, they might as well try to convince Trout to be traded to get some type of haul back to undergo a full on rebuild. They could have gotten a very good haul of quality, prospects for Ohtani.
Great video fam, but I think you should get a new mic dog.
3 all star appearances and an MVP are just good seasons?
@@peteyprimo7173 I'm saying it's his sixth season in LA, with 2 of them being pretty average, compared with Mike Trout who's averaged 40 HR and 102 RBI over 13 years. Acting like they're Jordan and Pippen over the course of a decade is ridiculous.
@@adamg378 that analogy is silly in baseball.

I always wonder that the Angels having their AAA team in SLC is hurting their player development, both for pitchers and hitters.
Why does it matter?
So you want to know how the Angels failed 2 superstars.... Very easy to explain.. The owner.. Artie Moreno...
He is not interested in championships as much as he is into making profit $$$...
That is the sad fact.. He is one of the poorest owner and his decisions and actions show this... He relies on the turn styles and jerseys sales to make money.. The way he looks at it is that if he has made a profit, all is good.. No incentive to win or to get anyone else including pitchers to help Ohtani or trout win... Horrible owner.. What a waste...
Since Arte became the Angels owner, they have plummeted while the Astros have skyrocketed.
The Angels are, simply put, a poorly run organization. They have a long history of foolish moves and signings. I was happy for them in 2002 and am not a particular fan, but as a baseball fan in general, its sad to see mistake after mistake. Trout & Ohtani deserve better!

If the Angels are overusing him, who in their right mind would pay him $500 million, just to baby him.

Agreed
The only championship game they saw together was this previous WBC.
The thing about baseball is, your players putting up insane numbers is how they give u the best chance to win. If u had a duo that were putting up crazy numbers but can’t make the finals, u can say that the way they play does not contribute to winning basketball.
They both in wbc championship when they don’t play for angels.
M. ever.
Its just sad not to see this two win something.
The funny thing is that when you do it for the love of the game, the money will come.
exactly right on all points
Anaheim! It's Anaheim buddy!
It’s a combination of mismanagement and misfortune. Too many bad contracts, too many injuries. After Shohei leaves I wouldn’t be surprised if Trout asks for a trade.
Shoehei is probably going to be a Dodger or Padre but I could see a team like Texas or Houston sneaking him up, too
Arte Moreno cares about what goes in his pocket and not the product he puts out.
You know the Yankees radio announcer already has the dramatics lined up, if Shohei signs in New York.
Yankees are doing the same thing with judge and Cole at least Cole has a ring from his ASTRO days.
I really hope ohtani leaves the angels. Watching the insane things he does is always exciting and i hope we get to see him on a competent team.
Ohtani is not leaving the Angels.
what are odds he stays in Anaheim?
@@trevorphampretty high
@@trevorpham Zero
@@Pro-Gamer330 Yes his leaving and sign with the Dodgers.
Someone should tell all these analysts the old saying, “there is no I in team.” You can have two of the best players in the world but if your whole team sucks you won’t get anywhere
