    This is actually really helpful bc I just started my journey of playing goalie yesterday with my first ice time (it was a scrimmage, luckily there were 2 other goalies there so we could swap in and out) and then today with another ice time which was meant just for people to train. So far I cant slide at all in my butterfly so hopefully this video will help next time I step out onto the ice (I'm also going to try to go to a 9/16" hollow from a 5/8" just to try and get a bit more grip since I can feel my blades slipping when I try to push off)

      Congrats on getting started! And it takes time to do it fluently. I would recommend focusing on your skating for now and the rest will follow. Butterfly slides look easy but they do take time to learn. Keep up the good work!

  • @mitchellman32
    @mitchellman32 5 років тому +1

    Hey Sam! This game's a good change of pace! I do notice on MANY attempts glove side you actually lean away from the puck and your hand is at or behind your shoulders. "Drive your hands" as my coaches would tell me every time I missed a shot that side. Also from Trav4's new video. I may start juggling to help with my hand/eye as well!

    Good stuff thanks, still in my first 6 months of goalie after 47 years of D and some forward, and just now learning the butterfly slide. I slide better left to right, not sure why. When I push right to left I seem to spin out of position?? My goalie coach (to help accelerate the process) drills, "look turn push", whether its butterfly slide or Tpush. Fall season starts in a few weeks can't wait, been resting a bad groin/abductor strain, mind is there body isn't at 55 :) Thanks for the tips

    • @ThePuckStopsHere
      @ThePuckStopsHere  5 років тому +1

      This is awesome to hear! Keep it up and I am sure you will get it soon. Regarding the spinning when pushing, it could be the way you are are pushing or your balance. If you lean too much one or the other, that will make a difference when you slide.

    Could you show how to get used to blocker saves?
    I'm new to goalie, I'm okay at glove and pad saves but I find that I never really use my blocker to make saves.
    I always either stop it with my chest or it goes in.
    How do I force myself to get used to using blocker?

    • @irbe2091
      @irbe2091 5 років тому +1

      Put your blocker on at home/park whatever works best and have someone throw a ball towards your blocker side. Practice deflecting it towards the corner. Do the same on the ice with the puck . Keep practicing this and it will eventually become second nature. Hold your stick as well.

    • @ThePuckStopsHere
      @ThePuckStopsHere  5 років тому

      William gave some great advice, you could also invest in a BlockerSleeve which I did a review on. It allows you to practice off ice without having to chase the ball every time you make a save. Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/tbOSqg6tapc/v-deo.html

    Great videos. I have a question. Is there anything to help your pad slide across the ice as you or is it technique. I notice my pads slow down as the ice gets shaved.

    • @ThePuckStopsHere
      @ThePuckStopsHere  5 років тому

      That’s going to happen as there is more friction but there are 2 factors to consider. 1) what type of pad you are using and 2) how hard are you pushing. Most new lads should slide fairly well so if you have newer pads (made in the last 1-4 years) then it is most likely how hard you are pushing.

    • @ThePuckStopsHere
      @ThePuckStopsHere  5 років тому +1

      @@klauskarlkraus Well, I believe you do not need to be a pro to be able to teach. I may not be able to help goalies who have played for many years especially at an elite level, but I can tell you that the hundreds of messages I get from beginner goalies tells me it that these videos are indeed helping them get better.
      In my opinion, you don't need to be an expert to share your knowledge, you just need to be 2 steps ahead in order to bring value to someone else.
      That would be like saying teachers who have not worked in the field they teach are not qualified to share their knowledge.
      If that was the case, then that would mean a science teacher could not teach an elementary class science unless they were a professional scientist.
      That would also mean that a math teacher couldn't teach unless they were a mathematician, a gym teacher couldn't teach unless they were a professional athlete, an art teacher couldn't teach unless the were a professional artist... I think you get my point.
      I have and never will say I am the best in the world but I do believe that people can learn from watching my games and hearing my breakdowns of why I think pucks go in.
      If you watch my first every video vs my last season game, I think you will see a dramatic improvement in my game and that is solely from watching my own videos.
