I was never a fan of Rolex, until I bought the new root beer two tone. I think it's the most beautiful watch out of the entire Rolex models. It is also very versatile for use as a dress/sports watch. The rose gold coupled with black and brown, make it a classic.
Still like it?
Agree, it is beautiful.
Make it even more sporty with an integrated Rubber B strap.
Best watch in the Rolex range for me (I may be a little bit biased)
@@gjonno Great idea, tks.
You've just convinced me that I need a Rootbeer GMT.
Not before I get mine in a few years time ;) I really adore this watch...it just has that something extra that the current pieces are lacking. I've said a few times in the comments that this is the watch I'd be gunning for over the rest of the modern line of pieces. Thank you for the comment, Matt!
IDGuy my pleasure! Thank you for responding! I had a black two tone GMT from the 90’s many years ago before I actually KNEW anything about watches. Now I find myself looking for oddball pieces like my Glycine Airman DC-4 and really enjoying their scarcity and enthusiast only appeal.
I’m REALLY enjoying your content as your channel is new to me as I selectively add more and more watch channels to my list. Your delivery is smart and sincere at the same time. Well done and keep it up! PS, I love the audio only...like a podcast!
Just picked up a 2020 root beer and found that it plays a real strange game through different lighting conditions. In some lights it appears quite basic then all of a sudden in other lighting it just goes mental! In a Stunning way,the coin edged rose gold bezel absolutely sparkles like nothing else👍
Had the chance of purchasing a CHNR but I didn't because of the case design. I maybe should have. Every time I see her, I kinda miss what I've never had! So beautiful
Thought provoking and well researched - having bought a 2018 root beer, I am clearly in the camp - Andrew
What a privilege to have you here, Andrew! I adore watching your channel / reading your page for the journalism (and especially enjoy your hot takes with Felix) I wanted to bring forward aspects of Storytelling, Art and Design focused content to the watch community and it's been such an awesome passion project to work on over the last few months. We both know that you bought yourself a gem of a watch. Keep wearing it in good health and thank you so much for visiting my page. If ever you'd like a UK based South African contributor to throw in some slang, let a brother know ;)
It was the Time+Tide videos that sold me on this RootBeer GMT as a uniquely awesome watch!.. And this video is a well done reminder that it was indeed a good decision (although I knew it as soon as I first put it on)!.. Whereas some watches lose their initial appeal, this one does seem to 'grow on me' more with time... Thanks for the great reviews on this watch... Both of you!
Pictures do no justice for this watch. This is a must see in person. Truly the best of all the Rolex watches! Btw, wonderful video!
I have a rootbeer from 1975 it’s fantastic looking.
Rock and roll! I love it! Continue wearing it in good health, man! She's going to be valuable one day ;)
Just picked up my new 2 tone root beer this morning. Absolutely stunning in person
Burned into my mind when I was a kid in the early 80’s is that there was a gentleman from my fathers hunting party wearing the root beer GMT
It has that allure unlike so many other pieces...its that brown down... I just love it, man. Thank you for the comment, Jesper!
I've always liked them. Also cool that it's the Clint Eastwood watch!
The Clint Eastwood affiliation completely slipped my mind...how stupid of me? I even reminded myself to mention it and still didn't... Thank you for the comment, Mike! I absolutely adore the pieces as well
I have the new rose gold Root Beer and the two tone yellow gold one from the 90s......both are great. As to Clint’s Root Beer, Jake Erlich speculates that Clint gave his watch to Bradley Cooper following their collaboration on American Sniper as Bradley was seen sporting a vintage Root Beer on a strap shortly after the premier of that movie. www.rolexmagazine.com/search/label/Bradley%20Cooper
PS, Clint’s Root Beer was a gift from Rolex and he returned the favor by wearing it in maybe as many as six movies (perhaps the best product placement deal ever done). I suggested to Jake that he tell Rolex that they should gift Clint the new Root Beer, and he said that was a great idea......haven’t heard if it’s happened yet.
I love the root beer above any other gmt.
Gifted myself the 126715CHNR (Rose Gold) for my 40th birthday late last year. Love it!
I've had a few emails asking about it and my answer has been the same every time ;) Absolutely adore the watch. Keep wearing it in good health, Diego and thank you for the comment!
@@ID-Guy thank you sir
@@ID-Guy dude I hate the new ceramic root beer design but I love the old steel one. The Sunburst effect on old model is amazing. Wish to own one
Just got mine last week. What a versatile watch. It has not left my wrist. Keeping great time and looking dynamite.
Best review I’ve seen of this watch, by far. And I’ve watched most of them before I bought it!
That really means a lot, Dan. I am such a big fan of the latest release and I'd buy it in a heartbeat if the money was in my pocket ;) Thank you for the comment and enjoy wearing that gem of yours in good health!
@@ID-Guy I to like it the best, I think I would buy this watch over all the rest I love the two tone bluesy, but this one is just perfect the colours the rose gold it's and every occasion watch, it's amazing how I like you think it's one of the best!!!!!!! If only I can win the lottery lol so for now a Paris homage will have to do lol
Sometimes I watched them AFTER I bought the watch.... you know.. afraid that we don’t know something bad from that beautiful watch we see in the shop/internet
Agree with pretty much everything. Glad you gave this reference some press as it deserves it. I bought one of these back in March. It's a gorgeous piece in the metal. Call me biased, but I prefer the two-tone as well. I think the watch stands out more in two-tone than it does in gold. I have a 34mm Oyster Perpetual with the olive dial that I reserve for the Autumn/Winter months when I wear a lot of Harris Tweed. This too I was going to reserve for that time, but I'd wear it all year. I plan on getting a BLRO and BLNR in the next year, but this is my favorite GMT. In fact I'll say that I think it's the best GMT they've ever done. I have a black Daytona and a black GMT, but I prefer this to both.
Great video!....and I’m so impressed that you pick watches/topics that are so under-appreciated....a great look at the Root beer that never gets as much limelight as it should.
Totally a future classic, for sure. I agree with you about the jubilee bracelet.
I have this feeling that they are going to trade for crazy money one day...alas, I hope to get one on my wrist before then ;) Thank you for the comments as always!
I love this! Always thought the old 2 tone GMT masters were special, and have a couple.
Evidently I'm the lone voice in the wilderness here, but I definitely prefer the oyster bracelet.
Right there with you brother...
@Spanish John In SS I agree but with rose gold center links its a scratch magnet and bit too 'rapper' for my taste.
get off my lawn nope..I’m with ya
I do have to say that a steel and rose gold Rolex is sharp looking and has so much more class when compared to a steel and yellow gold. If offered the opportunity between a 16753 and the 126711 CHNR, I would choose the CHNR.
It does have a much more toned down look to it (a warmer look) I'd be the first in line to pick up a CHNR if the money was in my pocket ;) Thank you for the comment as always, Reed!
@IDGuy - what chafes me is that flippers are asking anywhere from $3000 to $5000 above retail for the CHNR on Chrono24.
Love it when you show how you think the design of a watch could be improved. I usually prefer your versions!
Love this Rootbeer 16753, 40yrs and still my very favorite. Mine is oyster bracelet cuz my DJ36 is Jubilee
Have one! Love it. Daily wearer. The new one is great. Nice video mate
I'm so proud to do your watch justice, Tim. If I had the money on me, this would be the watch I'd splurge on tomorrow ;) Thank you for the comment, brother
The new root beer is my favorite watch of all time. Both the two tone and the all gold. It's amazing
I wear one and I enjoy it so much. I could not understand why this one was so much ignored compared with the Pepsi and Batman. Thanks ID Guy, great video like always :-)
What's not to like? I adore the watch and would happily be at the front of the line for one if the money was in my pocket ;) Thank you for the comment, Angel and keep wearing your gem in good health!
Just grabbed my Rootbeer this weekend - stunner of a watch. Couldn’t be happier
Superb………and I grabbed mine just 2 weeks ago. What a sensational looking watch. We are both very fortunate I feel…..
This is the most beautiful GMT in my opinion.
The vintage ones are definitely not for me but the new model is uniquely superb. It’s like a unicorn in the usual line up of “must haves”.
CHNR is gorgeous wrist candy, great video as always.
Best looking modern steel rolex period
I have a 16753 black and gold non-nipple. I’d love a root beer, but they are already quite expensive and collectible and firmly in the “classic” category. One thing that isn’t mentioned enough is how much the gold center links of the matched bracelet (whether jubilee or oyster) age these two tone watches. I’ve swapped out the bracelet to a Hermes style textured tan calf strap and it takes the watch from Miami Vice to Amalfi coast immediately and gives it the “aimless summer on a yacht feel” which I think is so suitable for a luxury sports timepiece.
Great video love the modern version of the Watch but it should be on a jubilee..
Guaranteed we'll see the new pieces on jubilees in a year or two (if we look at what Rolex has been doing with their other lines of GMT pieces) Thank you for the comment, Terry. It was an awesome video to put together
The GMT style is my favorite kind of watch. Cheers
They have a charm to them, no doubt. Thank you for the comments as always, Derek!
That 16753 on a jubilee is old school 70s/80s P-funk. And I dig it!! That would look so good with my Dad's early 70's vest that I pimp around town. Do want!!
I have never seen one in the wild, so all the more reason to own one! Another great vid IDGuy!
Man I love these two-tone Steel Rolex. I have to have them all. All the super heroes and now the root beer.
Future classic - I want it now.
Never appreciated the GMT or root beer
Thanks for summing this up succinctly.
👍🏻
I find the stainless steel in the two-tone a little jarring. The all rose gold model seems "warmer" and more "harmonious", although I must say that this is a very subjective matter.
I used the exact word "warmer" in an email and never mentioned it in the video... and I'll add! This is the first time I have ever read subjunctive in a sentence. Thank you for that, Pierre!
@@ID-Guy Sorry - too quick with the auto-type! I of course meant "subjective". No conjugation intended :-)
@@PierreMullin Oh I looked up and subjunctive is a real word and also the meaning fits your sentence inadvertently!
My dad gifted me his 1969 era 1675 Root Beer on jubilee in 1989, he was the original owner. Still have it and still wear it, even as I watched this excellent review. Long live the “ Clint Eastwood”.
Nice video, and not a single mention of the Rolex Pepsi. I really appreciate that!
IMHO, the Rootbeer and millgaus represent what Rolex used to be. Even though they brought it back, the root beer is imo THE best looking GMT ever. The recent pepsi is way to overhyped, just because its easy to make for other watchmakers and it caught on very quick.
I agree Dave. Of all GMT references, this one grabs me the most then the Batman (the Blue / Black combination with the day and night sky is charming) but the Pepsi is my least favourite. Maybe a video like this shouldn't go mainstream just to keep Root Beer's underrated for longer ;) Thank you for the comment as always!
@@ID-Guy great video as always btw glad someone who thinks for themselves has a voice on here! And yes the rootbeer is the only one my local AD puts on display for me to drool at XD
DAVE is it just for display or can we buy it ?
Of course you can buy it haha!
It doesn't get any better than This.
Would love to see your take on the new fascinating yacht master 42
Great video. Love this watch, agree with all your comments. Torn on oyster vs jubilee. I’m inclined Rolex have this one perfectly balanced as is, with the colour profile, and materials. Definitely my favourite GMT2 and best everyday wear modern Rolex.
Excellent analysis man! I really appreciate your work and wish you all the best my friend 👍🏻. The new two tone GMT MASTER 2 126711 CHNR truly is a very understated yet beautiful watch 👌🏻. Everyone was going crazy over the release of the “Pepsi” GMT MASTER 2 126710 BLRO, this beauty never got the attention it deserved.
Very well played sir👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Warmest regards,
Hisham.
What an absolute pleasure it is to have you here, Hisham. I feel the same way about the new Root Beer (and roll my eyes at the hype over the Pepsi that arrived alongside it) Of all of us here I'm sure you could get your hands on one next week (which I'm completely pushing you to do) ;) Thank you so much for watching my channel, man. It is such a privilege to be in a position to have such an audience. Have a fantastic weekend, brother!
IDGuy Your channel is a treat to watch buddy!😃
Thank you for everything and keep rolling out those vids😉. I can assure you, I’ll be watching 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Your fan 😊
Hisham.
I love the root beer models! In particular the one that Che Guevara was wearing, it looked stunning. I think it was called the rolex gmt espresso. Its kind of a pity that rose gold wasn't available in earlier time periods. Imagine how mesmerizing the rose gold would look after years of oxidation...
It's also interesting to consider that most of the gold GMT's of the time used 18k gold. I read that 18K was always aimed towards the european market and with other models they sometimes opted to use 14k gold (aiming them at the american market) the 14k gold pieces have oxidised beautifully over the years. But true rose gold does add something else. Thank you for the comment, man!
I didn't knew about the oxidation of the 14k versions, definetly something I might consider, if I ever going to buy a vintage gold watch.
I also have to thank you for your insightful content about watches. A few videos even helped me to give my bachelor thesis a special touch, especially your video about the Flieger watches.
You could maybe make a video about the different materials of watches (gold, steel, platinum and ceramic) and how they play as an design element. I like to look at different Audemars piguet models and observe how the different versions play with aesthetic of the watches.
Cheers
I can listen to you all day!
I am not a fan of 2 tone colour rolexs. However this is different and i would buy to add to my collection. If it had a brown dial and a jubilee bracelet, i would be straight down to see my AD in a heartbeat.
I just got this watch as a wedding present from my wife, it is fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.
Another fantastic video ID Guy. Love the GMT’s especially on a jubilee. While I’m not a huge Rose gold fan, I really do like the Root Beer.
the 126715CHNR will become a classic... once discontinued (and it will be), it will hit $100K inside 10 years.
I liked the old Root Beer with the serti dial. I forgot the reference number. I’ve seen some on Chrono24.
I am here thinking the photos don't do it justice, but I think there's too much going on with too little contrast. I think keeping the dial one colour would have made things a little easier on the eye, but alas. I do agree with more brown should be used for watches!
Agree it should be on jubilee. I kind of think Rolex got the bracelet choice back to front with the GMT's. The steel models should be on oyster and the precious metal should be on jubilee
This watch is incredible in the flesh . Blows away the all rose gold version because it has contrast the all rose gold version doesn’t
Great video. I enjoy your design commentary videos the most. I could not agree more that the Root Beer should have a Jubilee bracelet option. I think your comments of the old style being more vintage are right on. Now to more controversial idea. Do you think Rolex should offer some of their watches without the second hand as an option. I am thinking the Datejust and Day-Date in particular.
Karl, thank you! I'm going to be starting a segment next week (hopefully) that completely focuses on the designs of watches (avoiding the history and development as much as possible) Your question about removing seconds hands! I think some models would benefit a lot from it (especially from a cleanliness standpoint) I think the main reason why they have remained for the most part is to indicate that they are running. But on a model like the Day-date...wow...it would look superb. It adds extra emphasis on the "dress" aspect of the watch and I'm all for that! It's a subject that does deserve a video in the future. Thank you again for the comment and suggestion!
What a great idea for a video all of its own Karl. Well done! ✊
@@ID-Guy Thank for replying. I am not a designer but I have been interested in design for a long time. It does not matter whether it be architecture or cutlery or technology and even software, where I have lived for 40 years.
@@ID-Guy A comment/question from your video on the design of the Sky-Dweller.
I agree with your sentiment that a Sky-Dweller type watch back in the 70s would have been a great platform for a next generation Rolex GMT type watch with more elegance than the sports watch platform. At the time, Rolex was only a few years into larger cases for their sport watches. But the Datejust was still a small watch and most likely did not have the size to accommodate a GMT complication. Hence the GMT as a sports watch. It took until 2012 for Rolex design a new platform and size for the Sky-Dweller.
Now to my comment/question. I find the complications on Sky-Dweller very compelling with day/month and second time zone being shown on a rotating bezel. However, I find several elements of the design "clunky", mainly due to Rolex's brand and style elements. For me, the cyclops crowds the rotating dial. Imagine the watch with no cyclops lens and the date window moved below words Sky-Dweller just above the rotating dial. Yes, 3 lines of text would have be eliminated. I think that would be a more balanced look.
I would be interested in you comments on the Sky-Dweller design.
Were I ever to consider purchasing a Rolex; I would opt for a model with the Rolex crown used as the 12 o'clock marker. The jubilee bracelet is an absolute beauty. And the fluted bezel is stunning as well.
Just picked my CHNR up from the AD a few days ago. Loving it!
Have the new one and its absolutely gorgeous! A stunner!
I’ve been offered two of the latest Root Beer in recent months by my local AD....sadly, building a house means funds are not available for this but I’m still on their waiting list so maybe I’ll add it to the collection yet..... tried it on, liked it a lot....did I love it? Not completely sure yet....
I grabbed one recently. Love it
I personally love the rose gold GMT Rootbeer. Rose gold and brown are two fantastic colors to pair, just look at the Everose Chocolate dial Day Date 40. I Speaking of which, have you considered doing a video on the Day Date?
Chocolate brown and Rose gold as a combo is just amazing. And yes! I've just confirmed that I will make a video on the Sky Dweller in the future, but the Day Date also needs its time in the limelight! Thank you as always for the comment, Chi-Town (and for the suggestion!)
Waiting to get mine soon I agree brown blends well with rose gold it’s fantastic looking watch
Now I want to buy a rootbeer!!!
Love the rootbeer - especially vintage, I'm not so enamored with the GMT Master II versions, I like the colors of the vintage pieces.
Love your way with words. I agree. A standout watch amongst the common sports.
I just love that brown😍 we need more brown watches
Another great video IDGuy! Keep up the great work
The two tone isn’t bad, but the Rootbeer GMT looks so gorgeous in full rose gold regalia.
The root beer is without a doubt, my favorite sport model Rolex made. They are stunning.
The best looking Rolex to be sure. I also like the fact that nobody else likes it!👍🏻
Well, you would be surprised! Everybody is starting to fall in love with it
A vintage root beer has been on my wish list for a while now . Great video
The new Root Beer is simply gorgeous. The use of rose gold was brilliant!
Absolutely love my Rolex GMT Master ll, Root Beer and couldn't be any happier. With that being said I couldn't agree more, this beauty is extremely underrated and will only become more collectible as time passes. Keep up the amazing content and thanks for sharing this point of view.
What a coincidence. Just picked up my 126711CHNR today
From Spain ?
From San SBT
Beautiful pieces.
I prefer the oyster for the GMTs. I used to own a DateJust two tone and the jubilee bracelet reminds me of that watch and ladies watches
I hate you, I had moved pass my regret of having taken the Black,Black Black GMT last May and passed on the Root Beer. I would have had to wait for the Root Beer probably a month or two and The Black was there in my hands. The Price difference naturally also played a part. The Black being much less. The added factors were that the Root Beer wasn't there in the flesh she to speak and the Blacks instant price appreciation when I walked out of the store with it. Then lastly the stigma of being a two tone. I still fight that one as I ponder my next watch. I want one but do I dare. The big test for me will come I think this spring, I just think the Daytona will be offered in two tone Rose Gold and I love Chronographs. Sorry to ramble, bottom line your spot on in your evaluation of the Root Beer. So I'll gaze at my Black and at my Bank Book that has 6K more in it because of my decision. Hell I had actually set out wanting an Explorer II Polar so I am a mess.
I'm sorry for your loss, Rob ;) But! Have you considered selling your Black, black, black, black, black, GMT for more than retail and putting that money into a new Root Beer possibly? It's not completely impossible to do and it might bring you a lot more happiness out of the whole ordeal. Then again, you could diversify with an Explorer. Maybe picking up a 214270...the options are endless! Thank you for the comment as always, man! We can chat about this more if you'd like to shoot me an email!
@@ID-Guy all the options you mentioned are very much on the table. But I'm waiting to see what Rolex has in store for us at next springs Basel World. Owning a GMT Master II Black complaining about it is a bit silly it's a great piece. Truth be told I have been more focused on a Blancpain 50. I loved your review of that one back a few month's ago. So you see my eye wanders all over. Thank goodness my wallet keeps things rooted in reality.
My precious!! But seriously, the only Rolex worth buying, and I hope one day to have saved enough to be able to afford one, love your channel and keep up the amazingly thought provoking content
A great piece for whowvwer purashed 3 years ago
Perfect.... I own the rosegold and the 2-tone.... one is a daily wear.
I'm so glad I did your watch justice, Roger. I adore it. Keep wearing it in good health and thank you for the comment!
IDGuy you made my day sir. Thank you
my 1675 has a 'swiss only' tiger's eye dial, as in it just says 'swiss' instead of 't swiss t', is it a service dial? Watch is from 1979. Thanks
Amazing Content Keep Up the Great Thing
Thank you so much, Altamash! I really appreciate it, man.
my wishlist watch
Classic-to-be, yeah. Already pretty astronomic prices.
Or it’s an instant classic and a beautiful watch!
Excellent video as always, not a fan of the watch tho.Be good to hear your opinion on Christopher Ward C65 diver- thanks👍👍
Thank you for the comments as always, Inkitatus! I will be looking at CW in future (my schedule is always brimming with upcoming videos haha!)
IDGuy excellent, I enjoy all your content . Cheers 👍👍
Traded in my "pepsi" for a 16753 Root beer when I was in Dubai back in 98(?). Wear it most every day.
Just had it overhauled and cleaned. I forgot just how nice it looks!
could not be happier with the watch. Now who do I leave it to in my will? LOL
Wish i had the funds for one looks amazing! Love it!
What a beautifully narrated review this is. 👍🏼
Definitely a very elegant sportswatch.
not sure if i am in the minority here, but i think the new root beer and the yachtmaster 2 are rolex most best looking and beautiful watches and the oyster bracelet for me
Yes and 116613lb submariner ! Best rolex imo its daytona oysterflex rose gold chocolat bezel and platona blue ice , chocolat bezel👌🥇
I agree that the Jubilee would dress it up too much. Here the dressiest of the GMT's gets a dash of sport that makes it at home in jeans and a black tee or peeping out from the cuff of your suit jacket. Stellar piece. I went for it.
I have the solid/full rose gold version. I am naturally tan and rose gold suits my skin. 2 tone would be more versatile for skin colours, not a fan of 2 tone, if I had to choose, the 2 root beer would be high on my list
The Root Beer full everose is fantastic one of the most beautiful Rolex the Diet Root beer is ok
You have to try a Rootbeer to appreciate it. Surprisingly it's quite a wearable piece although I think a 2 tone Jubilee would have worked better than the Oyster bracelet. The polished rose gold centre links are quite blingy as well as being scratch magnets.
edit - just got to that part of the video. Totally agree about the Jubilee. Not sure if you've seen one in real life but the bezel isn't brown - it's more of a burgundy or oxblood. I don't think a matching dial would work in this colour.
If they werent going to have the same colours i would not have called it the rootbeer. Really hate the ceramic process cannot do the two colours.
not keen on the vintage root beer at all, but the latest version is stunning, i may add one to my collection, dont agree on adding brown face to new one, the black face gives it a sharp clean feel against the stainless steel. Would look flat with brown face
Just had a re-run of your superb Root Beer flick it helped me with my choice & was popped onto the waiting list...just picked up the beauty today from our local AD a stones throw from the Pier during lockdown. It was a non entry front door service. Wow wee just sitting back munching the popcorn & sipping a dark beer named "Old Peculier" it's very apt indeed but very very nice.
yachtmaster2 and the new root beer are rolex best looking watches
116613 lb submariner witj sunburst blue dial too bro that 3 are amazing
