Thank you so much for your video! It was very helpful. We took our truck to the diesel mechanic and they were giving us options on the transmission replace/rebuild...but the transmission place has a backlog. Our budget is stretched right now. We sent your video to them and asked them to clean connections and add the ground wire...if it doesn't work then we have to do plan B. The mechanic did the work and happy to say that the sound of the struggling at 40mph and 60mph is not there anymore. Fingers crossed it will be fine for awhile.
Dude I was on my way to AutoZone to get a shift changer solenoid pressure solenoid watched your video went out and tightened up my grounds and that took care of everything thanks so much man
Thanks for video. Although my 02 Dodge Ram has the 5.9L gas engine in her, I'm experiencing the same issue. I'll try your method before having my mechanic look into the issue. Thanks again.
Nice video... my 2nd gear wont shift properly on my 97 dodge ram 2500 cummins hopefully by cleaning all the ground cables would fix the problem.. thx for the vid
You really need to use the proper fitting for all wiring fixes. Using the wire itself will again break as the wire was not designed to be bolted directly to.
i do have this issue, I changed the map sensor, throttle sensor, neutral switch, the truck went through many different shops/mecanics and it still doing that thing. the last shop, the told me it might come from my fan clutch.. witch im about ab out to changed it. will see if is that... very desperate..
I have been having an issue I have two Good batteries that I have checked so far alternator seems to be good I don't know when the last time it was replaced I bought the trick three years ago it's a 96 Ram 2500 12 valve 5.9 Cummins diesel I've done a lot to the truck since I've had it so far new turbo new air filters new fittings and I've had a couple diesels not a 5 9 Cummins but I've had other 73 and 69 IDI and powerstrokes Fords but anyhow but having an issue last couple weeks and it always seems like when I got the truck even when I get on the freeway I was having issues originally with the drivability of it it would Shake really super bad like the death wobble I mean it was terrible I wind up putting brand new tires had to balance tires and rims a few times all new ball joints upper lower wheel bearings I have the stabilizer Rough Country dual stabilizers I have the other bracket that supposed to hold the steering more straight have had an alignment on it twice camber caster adjustment all that stuff but anyhow long story short it always felt like when it gets into overdrive that so the last couple weeks about the last month we have a lot of rain where I live here in Michigan and start having an issue with the truck first wouldn't start and I do have the electronic actuated thing that pulls in this magnetized that is for the fuel light believe I don't know the exact words of it so I thought okay well it's going bad well I wind up holding that thing in and then fire the truck up no problem it did that for a few days after we had a lot of rain then I was moving some wires around that led up to it seeing looking at the plug and everything else that connects to it and everything looked to be good mind you're not when I got this truck three years ago I'm very anal about electrical components I went over every single electric opponent that I can see underneath the engine compartment on this truck and re-taped everything with 3M tape electrical heavy-duty tape and checked all my wires and fittings and used dialectical grease on every single fitting that I could find going to the transmission transfer case rear end and everything that I could see up underneath the engine compartment I've done this about a year ago after I start replacing things because I wanted to last and the work that I've done when I start replacing batteries and brand new terminals I want them to last and I really like this truck I really do I didn't think that I would like it as much as I do once I got driving it and fixing everything and really start to get to enjoy it after fixing all the ball joints and all the other garbage that comes along with it on the second generation dodges I'm really starting to care for the truck but my issue is now when I was pushing around them wires to that electronic fuel shut off solenoid it seemed like when I was moving them around I would get to wear my overdrive light would work and wouldn't work could have been just a coincidence maybe it's something robbing or not grounded properly in a certain spot around their up next to the firewall or two that electronic fuel shut off solenoid don't know well after a few times I shut the truck off turned it back on I pushed the overdrive light it would work then shortly after can we do it again to where the overdrive like wouldn't work so I shut the truck off let it sit for a few minutes turn it back on I was fine and another issue I was having when this was going on was it be like it was starting off in 2nd gear so I did a bunch of research and I know that the crank sensor can make it do that cuz I had to happen one time when I was doing some work up front and somehow disconnected the crankshaft position sensor and it takes away your RPM gauge mph gauge everything you'll have a battery light on everything and it won't shift proper so I wind up replacing the crank sensor wind up doing the throttle position sensor with an aftermarket one from AutoZone several months back on the throttle position sensor and just like a week ago on the crankshaft position sensor so it seemed like now I'm not getting where I'm starting off and second it's really dog is but I'm getting quite a bit which I was getting it with the starting off and second gear feel like it had no power I'm getting this transmission lock up to where it's going in and out in and out right at about 50 miles an hour and if I hold the gas down like I'm really giving it gas and going to speed up to get on the freeway it doesn't do it while I'm in acceleration mode it only does it when I let off the gas like if I get up to 70 mph and let off the gas and try to hold it steady at 70 mph you'll see the RPM gauge kind of boost up around close to 2,000 RPM when it should be at about 1500 if I give it more gas and you'll feel it kind of kick in a little bit the overdrive and I have a professional Snap-on scan tool a verdict D7 and it has a 2-channel lab scope from all the research I've done I put it on a 2 position lab scope with the key on engine off and then with the engine running while I'm driving at all different speeds everything is working how was supposed to the Miller voltage on the throttle position sensor is that about 14 and then it fluctuates if you hold it wide open back and forth is showing the response I'll put transmission speed sensor showing a response the rear differential speed sensor showing a response and working as a speed up and speed down one thing I did notice that makes me think that it is in the trans inductor is that from all the research I've done on the governor solenoid or the transmission inductor solenoid supposably from the research I've done has to be within 140 Fahrenheit to 185 degrees Fahrenheit for the PCM to recognize it and open up in the vale body to send a signal back to get overdrive to work that has is thinking in my head if my scan tool shows I'm at -83 Celsius and stays at -83 which is extremely bitter crazily cold to me that's a non-working trans inductor solenoid within the trans because if I turn the truck on I am still at -83 degrees C or if I drive it for 3 hours I'm still at -83 Celsius and it never changes and I just start paying attention is today cuz I made this video so while I'm up underneath there I would probably change the trans Overdrive solenoid which are only like 70 bucks the trans inducer solenoid which controls the Celsius and Fahrenheit to send a signal back to the PCM and I don't know which one sends a signal to each one first to the PCM I don't know the Theology of it I just know they all work it within coherence of each other now that's what I believe is going wrong is within their trance inducer because if I don't see a Fahrenheit or Celsius while the truck is running or driving and it's always at the same that means that somehow it's staying stuck adapt degrees of a position but anyhow I want to try the simplest thing first I see everybody talkin about this wire that they run it aground that goes by the alternator what exactly am I looking for to splice into to reroute it and reground it I'm not going to do the BD diesel right now I want to run it directly from where the sources and make its whole separate ground away from the alternator can somebody please help me out here I know this is a long post but I want to try to make this as simple as possible and easy as possible please point me in the right direction of color or schematics of my specific truck because I know that a Cummins 24-valve is a 59 also but there's a lot more wires on a 24-valve because it's all electronic versus a mechanical 12 valve P pump truck or Vee thank you for your help it's very appreciated

Did you change the solenoid? I’m think of that I’ve cleaned grounds and all.
My 2001 dodge ram 2500 will only go 50mp not getting the 4th gear any help?
@@jdlawncare5582did you ever find the issue having the same problem
Glad you guys got it fixed! Saved a few grand their!
Yes indeed 👍🏻👍🏻
Also adding a ground from the passenger battery to the firewall ground on the passenger side helps out!
That is exactly what my truck just started doing, I will give it a try. THANK YOU!!.
Did it help
Praying this solves my problem!!!

Did you figure it out?
Yep, The torque converter went bad. Had it replaced. Now, she shifts just fine.
Nice video... my 2nd gear wont shift properly on my 97 dodge ram 2500 cummins hopefully by cleaning all the ground cables would fix the problem.. thx for the vid

BEAUTIFUL RAMZ
wow, very nice... great info

Why I didn't find this video before, I already spent 5k 😢
5k on what? New transmission??
thankyou good man 😊

Have a 2001 dodge 1500 gonna try this, trouble shifting. I thought I was the trans, will update.
Was it the grouds??
What was it? I got the same but it’s a Laramie slt
Never pick grounds. Clean all!
I was told that my shifting issue was because the anti-lock brakes, can this be true? and how do you fix it?
I believe the ABS system isn't part of the transmission, it shouldn't effect the shifting
My transmission struggles to pull to 2nd
Mi e does that then locks itself from D to 4 and have to turn truck off n on to reset.

Mine does that when I turn left
Thanku
Lift pump ground i will bet I had it cleaned up Got rid of the wire redid the wiring to the lift pump put a new lift pump and problem solve
