hi,how does one go about finding a career in a hatchery? I would like to learn more about it.can u guide me into the right direction? do I need biology courses to excel into this marvelous field of study and work? thankyou.
so what are you checking them for and what are the different tiers of gating for? i can see they're scooped out of one but what determines which one they end up in after inspection?
The males and females are separated into different raceways(ponds). Females are crowded to top of raceway, scooped out and placed in the baskets so the technicians can grasp them and feel the fish's belly to tell if the eggs are ready to be taken out. If they are soft and ready then they are dropped in the pen just in front of the techs, if not they go behind to be checked again in a day or two .

No, at this hatchery we used them for a couple of seasons before stocking them out.
