Only one Atlanta Hawk player fits the criteria that year. Joe Smith. Could be wrong, but he was in the news in 2018 for blowing through $61 million and is now broke.
Joe Smith was not a journeyman who made the NBA minimum. Also, while the setting is Atlanta, Ed doesn't say it was a member of the Hawks, simply an ex-NBA player.

And probably there was a sit down with an account on several occasions who told him and he just ignored it. He could have had a stunning life with nice cars if he had of been more responsible.

I'm in sales at a mainstream dealer here in Canada, and I can vouch for your statement on "days off" during the week. Having said that, I'd be pretty choked if I missed out on a deal with one of my customers THE NEXT DAY just because I didn't happen to be there that day. Thanks for the stories, I love how similar the exotic car business is to mainstream car sales!
As entertaining as Rabbit, Doug, Rob, or the valet guys stories are, Ed’s story’s are the ones I tend to look for or gravitate to. His word play is amazing. He’s the best story teller by far. The sense of humor and his sarcasm is unmatched
I sold cars when I was 19 at a crappy secondary financing lot. A guy traded my boss a pedigree English bulldog for his down payment. Took 2 days and I only made $100. Let’s say I stopped working there soon after.
The police in these stories are 100% useless, it's hard for me to understand why in the law knowing exactly who has has your car is a detriment to recovery.
It's more or less the same police force and most of these stories are from the same time period. To have the cops constantly fail to provide what we see as capable help isn't really that strange given the circumstances. I'm sure they had other priorities during the years Ed started his rental company and the time at the dealers. If the case isn't clear cut you might have to seek legal council just to produce it to the police, it's not the way policing should work but if they can't be nudged in the correct direction from the get go, they won't bother. The AD's office should also take some blame for this as well as civilian over sight comities.

Rip the porter. They made us clean a women’s bathroom because the thought someone threw up but it was just ice cream all over everything so the 3 of us got all the signs and dramatically closed every thing and got the chemical mixing suit we have for some reason and then we cleaned it in 2 minutes then just hung out for like an hour

Same goes for NFL players, only in their case they'll whine to the media about how the league "didn't do enough" to "teach" them how to be financially responsible as if its the league commissioner's fault thet they're too stupid to save money and not be criminals.

Every time I am finally relaxed at home i get that call from a GM or manager saying I should come in for a test drive or I already have something scheduled for that day. no days off but it is a very fun profession you meet a lot of very nice people but also some of the worst I do have to say myself

Because it's not a theft. At least not entirely by legal definition. And the law has many loopholes.
