  • VINTAGE Book + PAPERBACK Pickups - March 2024 - What An Amazing Month - Vintage SF - ASMR, Maybe!
In this video I take a look through my pickups of vintage paperbacks that came my way in March 2024. London Paperback Show goodies, more of virtually mint books from Dorset Bob, some eBay purchases book hauls from Liverpool, Dorset and Newton Abbot. An incredible month! Some beauties in here!
These all needed cleaning and making good. It took awhile but the results were great and these will make a worthy additions to my collection.

As the Jaws title suggests ‘You’re going to need a bigger boat’…all that in one month! 😊

Just ridiculous tbh Simon. However, some of this was from job lots and they are doubles so not quite as bad as it looks 🙂

Great to see you picked up that copy of Time Out Of Joint... ISFDB does indeed confirm that the SFBC edition is the UK first edition (if you exclude the 1959 serialisation in New Worlds Science Fiction which doesn't count!). What a great month you had 🙂

Thanks my friend. It was a bit overwhelming tbh and I'm trying not to buy anything at all in April! Delighted with the PKD. Those earlier SFBC titles are proving quite tough to track down with decent dust wrappers.

34:10 I tend to leave previous owners inscriptions because it reflects the history of the book

It's a personal choice but unless it's an association copy I generally remove them.

This is the first I’m hearing about “Digit” books? How about a dedicated video to them? They look very cool, like paperback pulp magazines!

I once helped a friend clean out an attic full of comics and paperbacks he had purchased. Turned out to be 120k comics and 40k paperbacks. The paperbacks were all genre fiction, horror, western, mystery, detective, and more. I didn't get paid for helping so I took what I wanted, pk dick, ellison, pyramid shadows, a complete set, and so much more. Some were new and unread, some beat. 1940s through 1970s. Took some photos but misplaced them since.

Some day I'll tell you about the ABC books and magazine service. I like your channel, very low key on a site full of people who holler cause they love the sound of their own voice, but have nothing to say

Interesting that you’re moving away from Apple. I found their M chips combined with their software to really fly when processing heavy stuff.

At 14:37 you see that it is a first print.. is there a way to tell first print if it doesn’t state it on the inside?? For example if it just shows the publishing date can I assume it’s a first print?? Any tricks of the trade sorry Im new to collecting paperbacks..

    • @JulesBurt

It's just something you learn over time but that one clearly is a 1st Pan with no mention of any reprint evident.

Can I ask do you actually read any of these many books you buy or just buy to collect as a hobby.

    • @JulesBurt
      @JulesBurt  4 місяці тому +1

I read every day but I collect vintage books as I enjoy the designs. I collect different cover artists, publishers and of course authors. Some books I might own five or six different editions of the same book. I have over twenty different editions of Day of the Triffids, my favourite book of all.

      Thanks for reply.
I'm pretty sure I read a school library copy of Day of the Triffids in my teens. Recently found a second hand copy so I think I'll give it another go.
      Cheers
