Omg, your comments about the influencers and the plague they have become could not have been more brutally succinct and accurate. They do not care at all about the history and legacy behind these brands and their most iconic products. It's "gimme, gimme, gimme".

I've been done with Chanel beauty for a while. The colors are terrible- all that red and pink eye makeup. Final straw was the several hundred dollars I spent on a new bottle of No. 5...it's yellow water. Lasts about 20 minutes. Bath and Body Works lasts for hours but Chanel doesn't?
Our Local Chanel store is closing. Apparently Chanel want to focus on Online and larger stores.

I totally agree ! I have been a devoted Chanel make up and skin care user for decades . You are right , their colors and even the textures , for example their lipsticks , is not on par with other newer make up lines .
Dacob , you are right - something is wrong at Chanel . So v v disappointed.
I think what Chanel is doing at this point is what I would liken to a borderline defense; they no longer seek to find themselves in the minds of their customers. It's not about having a mutually beneficial relationship and sharing something cultural/historic, it's about psychopathically getting one over and coming out on top, regardless of how the other feels in the process. If I owned a brand, I wouldn't want my clientele to feel dissonant, disgusted or exploited by being overcharged for a product that everyone knows isn't worth the escalation. I would want them to feel like the price was fair and that their loyalty, interest and attachment was respected. Call me old-fashioned.

I’ve been so disappointed in the Chanel extraits - gorgeous, but the bottles are so constitutionally bad that I’m rapidly losing all of them to evaporation (having stored them *pristinely* in the boxes, in the dark, cool, etc, etc….). Even if I wanted the perfume I would never, ever waste my money again. There’s such contempt for the consumer from this brand….

So sad for the extraits but so happy the EDP are staying.

Oh no Dacob, I cannot believe it :(Went to Selfridges Birmingham on my birthday for a Chanel perfume ( my treat each year). I smelled again practically all Les Exclusives: Le Lion, Misa, Cuir de Russie, Number 22, Jersey etc but decided to buy Chanel Number 5 Eau de Toilette as I think Les Exclusives are a bit too expensive: £ 300......
Whoever that person is at Guerlain saying fragrance is now second rate in importance to the house is highly disrespectful to the brand's history. People like that should not be in these positions and also this influencer worship needs to stop, it's pathetic and unworthy of such historical companies. Thank you as always Dacoub.

Today I went to buy a bottle of comete and suddenly I remember this video
They where indeed almost all gone.
But they still had one bottle of my favorite bois des iles .. I had to by it 😂 an expensive impulse 😂 but no regrets !! Love it
They also did the most disgusting thing with the recent price increase. Increasing everything to 325 and 500 for my favorites Le Lion and Coramondel ugh 🤦🏾
bought my les exclusifs 200ml for £230 from harrods bought 3 bottles, now they are £350 perhaps heading towards 380-400 very soon

Do you think it could be related to the exponentially-increasing prices and competition for sourcing raw natural materials? Is the minimum concentration of raw oils more regulated for “extrait/parfum” than for EdP’s? Maybe it’s becoming too difficult to source the materials for the parfum concentrations, but there is more “wiggle room” for adjusting the concentration in EdP’s. This leaves me wondering if the current EdP’s will be reformulated with even lower concentrations of oils… 😟

I just love how Chanel is discontinuing many of their parfum iterations yet similar brands are releasing not only parfums but elixirs as well. Chanel has become a shadow of itself
Oh...how sad!! Thanks for keeping us informed. I haven't bought a parfum concentration yet, but I was hoping to, in the future. I remember asking at the Beauty Boutique, back in October, and they didn't have the Chance parfum or Allure parfum. I was bummed!!

Hi Dacob! I couldn't help but think the same thing/ CHANEL is trying to appeal ONLY to the super Elite and weed out the rest. After I saw today, that the new denim FLAP bag is priced at $9.800.00, I figured they are really trying to be so snobbish, that we mere mortals will not be able to shell out this massive amount for denim? OMG! Also, I visited SAKS outside Cleveland, OH, 2 weeks ago and went to purchase CHANEL boots and....the department is GONE! SA told me that CHANEL decided to pull the whole line because they do not carry Ready to Wear

Hello Dacob. I ran to my local Chanel Beauty boutique on Sunday. I asked the SA but she wasn't aware of the discontinuation. No matter... I immediately purchased the Chanel Beige parfum, 15 ml. Thanks for the heads up.
I just successfully added a bottle of the Cuir de Russie parfum to my cart on their US website but can't afford the current $305 price so will just have to make my current bottle (and 19) last. So sad and so unfair 😢. Something's not right here 🤔
I'm so invested in this, and was so horrified by the title! I agree with you on all points made. It's just devestating that they would get rid of these scent jewels. The audacity to only produce them in stupidly large quantity. I'm so with you on getting the 'original 4' while you can.
Dior has still the Miss Dior Extrait on its website. It is an Emond Roudnitska creation I think.
I hope they don't discontinue the eau de pafums I would be devastated

This is a sad loss, real extraits like the ones produced by Chanel (where it meant an emphasis in the base notes and better materials) were so rare on the market. That being said, I will try to remain hopeful because perfumes we lose sometimes come back. Mitsouko was never discontinued but it was in terrible shape around the 2010s and has recently been restored to its former glory. Also Vent Vert of Balmain was discontinued in the 90s and it should be coming back this year with Balmain's perfume launch in September, though I have no info on the reformulation.
Let me end on this: Beaux's creations are over 100 years old. There's a reason they've survived that long and they're bigger creations than any self-important twat working at Chanel today. I am sure they will see the light of day again.
Selfridges has pic of Gardenia parfum but the description for edp. Harrods only has Beige in parfum. Not even no.5 parfum on either site. US Chanel site still lists several parfums.
Well this is a really sad occurence, which extrait do you recommend I buy from the Les Exclusif extraits before they disappear
I kept my chanel number 5, 15ml extrait cool, dark and well tight but disintegrated on me over 3 years after I'd opened it and used twice only 😢

Chanel is definitely trying to make itself look enticing to big beauty conglomerates like LVMH. Raising prices, cutting spending by discontinuing least profitable products, etc. These are classic “look at me, I would make a great investment” actions. TF, MFK, etc. You raise prices and cut production costs so that your
P/E (price to earnings ratio) looks good to potential investors 😢. Chanel, at least in America, imo, is getting ready to sell it’s business and cash out.

I think we need to reconsider the sourcing issue again. Given the current political climate, I believe Chanel knows that we are not headed to a simpler and easier means of acquiring primary materials for perfume making. I see it in other brands as well, so many have been missing from the shelves where I live (perhaps chain of production has not yet affected countries like USA or European nations, but here it is more common every day to have a perfume gone missing for months even years since the pandemic and the Ukraine war). I think it has to do with sourcing too. Although we already know they will make it so to make the most money with whatever choices they have to make do with their perfume lines from now on.

The only Chanel extrait I buy is the number 5 on a rare occasion. I like to wear it with the edt or edp for protection. I only buy the 7 ml. and that size is still available. But honestly I feel like the Parfum’s are poor projection for what you pay. The EDP has much better projection.
I totally agree with you on everything. I worked for Chanel Beaute in the 90"s when #22 was still a soft powdery fragrance. I was not a fan when they made 22 a Les Exclusive because they took away the softness of the fragrance. I get the whole revamping to make it more modern, but I thought Chanel would never alter one of the originals. Maybe one less Chance flanker and keep the extraits in the line so EVERYONE can afford them!

Heartbreaking. To lose the 2007 Exclusifs extraits is one thing, but to cut the original Rue Cambon four is tantamount to negligence.
Honestly though, I am still holding on hope that they will somehow at least keep the Cambon four in production in 15ml but thus far no confirmation…

What will happen, and is ALREADY happening!! - is companies will buy the larger bottles and decant small amounts. Resale will continue under other companies. Sample sizes and other small amounts.
I think majority don’t buy the extrait… but it’s true that Chanel is on its way to pursue exclusivity - however, with the current economic situation- I don’t see how that strategy will work in the long run
Part of it is probably changing IFRA regulations. Constantly updating fragrance regulations forcing companies to constantly have to reformulate fragrances.

I fear that this may be just the beginning. I wouldn't be surprised if Chanel discontinued the Les Exclusifs body cream and body oil in the next year or two. I also think that a few of the EDPs might get the axe to make room for new additions to the range.

I went to chanel in paris last week to buy bois des iles, cuir de russie and n22 extrait, because they were not available on their website, even here in France. Also in the boutique it becomes rare to find them, lucky me i was able to find and buy them
I asked if Chanel was discontinuing their Parfum, and they told me « of course not! Our heritage cannot be stopped!» They have issues with the bottle supplier, chanel find the quality of the bottle really bad, so they stopped for now the production of parfum.
They will have new bottles and new design maybe in december, and they told me that they will provide for the purchase of the parfum like a little stick to apply the parfum 🤫

Thank you for the intel… but they already offer the ceramic applicator stick for their perfumes. I have a bunch of them. And if they are not happy with the subpar glass bottles for their parfums, then why did they increase the prices of said extraits despite the low quality bottles? Something isn’t right here… and in case they bring the bottles back again, I think they will cost a lot more than they do already. If they want to bring back the extraits, then I recommend bringing hem back as sprays, just like No5 parfum in its current 7.5ml refillable spray… thoughts?
I know i have their ceramic applicator too, but apparently it will be something different.
I totally agree, the price is becoming beyond ridiculous.. but when they up the price at the beggining of the year there was no problem with the bottle.. they justify it by the lack of raw material, and because all of the taxes we pay here in France.

Just a thought, this might be due to the farming/framers protest in France and the European Union. Extraits have come and gone over the years but the current issue may stem from a lack of product, even though Chanel has its own fields.
Wouldn’t the product in a large bottle change over time after being opened? Darker? Thicker? Scent change? I don’t know what brand it was, but I remember my mother having a beautiful glass bottle of something that eventually turned dark brown and thick like syrup…whatever it was no longer smelled good!
At least they’re not totally discontinuing Extraits, just in expensive larger bottles… $3000 for 225ml not sure I can afford it though

No22 used to be part of the main line for many decades and in the US it was part of the mainline for much longer than in Europe but that all changed in the early 00’s.

There are a lot of amazing niche options to replace Chanel. They are cheaper and are actually more exclusive. You have to make an effort to discover them.

They didn’t sell so good ..very old fashioned !In a world where sweet parfumes like libre ,jpg,la vie est belle etc rules the fragrance world on sales ,only fragrances lovers can appreciate the old fashion fragrances ! The new generation is not impressed by No 5 or a shalimar ,Opium etc (just my opinion )
My thought too. The influencers and the fast-fashion fragrance is certainly a choice and turning point. Chances are, if they go the influencer route, Chanel will trend on TikTok and elsewhere and this might help with the new direction they seem to be going - but at what cost?
