  • The Election of 1912 represents one of the most consequential elections in American history, and certainly one of the most unique. Four candidates received a significant portion of the popular vote, including Socialist candidate Eugene Debs, and three men who had already served, or would serve as president: Theodore Roosevelt, William Taft, and Woodrow Wilson.
This event examines the campaign and election of 1912 under the guidance of three outstanding scholars: Thomas Knock (SMU), Crista Deluzio (SMU), and Kenyon Zimmer (UT-Arlington). Brian Franklin (SMU Center for Presidential History) will moderate the discussion. These guests will illuminate the history and significance of 1912: the campaigns, major political issues, the women’s suffrage movement, income inequality, the Socialist Party, and more.
