    A coworkers mother painted rocks and coworker "discreetly" put them on our desks at work. She placed the best rock on my desk that has a flower with the word " WELCOME " on it. I flipped the rock over and it had a bible verse. It touched my heart completely, I really enjoy having this rock on my desk as a paper weight! Looking for an idea for my son to give his 2nd grade teacher as school is ending

    I just saw a post on someone picking up a painted rock and thought what a way to enjoy painting and making someone’s day. I must have been living under a rock because I did not know how people leave them around as gifts to others they do not know. Thank you for a starting place.

      @@RockPainting101 The only time I did something similar was at the school I taught at. Teachers always need a bit of motivation. We were given a rock that had the base color painted on it and a name. We wrote a motivating saying or Picture on it. We snuck it to the teacher. We also dropped them little gifts as the year went on like a Secret pal.

    I'm a nanny for a 2 year old and her 7 years old half brother when he visits for the summer. I've wanted to paint rocks with them all summer, finally did it now that the older kids are back in school. 2 days ago, we collected our rocks on a walk. Afterwards, I had the kids scrub them, and line them up like little soldiers to dry. Today is painting day! I'm more excited than they are only because I know what we're doing, they've forgotten. lol

      Wonderful! welcome to the hobby! There are a few options to get stones. Landscape supply shops will sometimes let you buy a bucket full. Home Depot/Lowes sometimes have bags (make sure there is no wax on them). Hobby Lobby has some in their "mosaic" department. They are nice flat slices. Then you can always order online. Amazon has quite a few options amzn.to/2ZKiOYj or this Etsy shop has some really nice ones too - tidd.ly/3AfE7Tg

      I like an extra fine tip paint pen for writing I have Posca and Artistro brand and am happy with both. I have used quite a few different sprays over the years. Mainly just search for one that is non-yellowing AND weather resistant. Then pick the finish you want (matte or glossy) Krylon makes a few Rustoleum does too :) You can see rocks finished with them here - rockpainting101.com/best-sealer-painted-rocks/

    Hi there!
    Thanks for posting. Two questions.
    1. I'm thinking of using paint pens for a program. Will the rocks mess up the paint pens if multiple kids use them several times over? Or will they be fine?
    2. Do the rocks need to have a sealer? Or do you think they would be ✨okay✨ without?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  6 місяців тому +1

      Over time it does wear down the tips a bit so they wont be as pointed, but they still work. With the 3M & 5M Posca paint pens you can actually take the tips out and flip them over to get a fresh tip again. As far as sealing, if they are just taking them home to keep them if you use a nice pen like Posca they will last a long time without sealer. For outdoors I suggest to use a sealer because they can fade in the sun over time.

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  4 роки тому +4

      Sharpies have a tendency to bleed when you seal them. If that is all you have just make sure you do a VERY light first coat of spray sealer. Just a mist. Maybe even twice. Then follow up with a thicker coat. If you plant to paint a lot of rocks you can invest in some paint pens (even just black for writing) Let me know if you want any recommendations :)

      Really that is the only kind that doesn't work. The waxy surface just doesn't let the paint stick. There are a few options to get them. You can check local landscape supply shops. "river rock" comes in all sizes sometime they will let you get a 5 gallon bucket full. Some craft store have them. Like Hobby Lobby has some good "slices" they carry now. OR even online and shipped to your home. If you want to go that route I have some linked that I like in this post. rockpainting101.com/rocks-for-crafts/

    Thanks for the video! I am going to purchase rocks from my local landscaping store. Which type of large rocks do you recommend? Thank you.

      Start in the river rock area... they usually are pretty smooth. They should have them in a few different sizes and by different colors.

    Have the rocks to be smooth? Or it's ok anyway?

      Not all my rocks are smooth. It really depends on the design/style and how much details you are adding.

    What paint can I use to color big rocks outdoors?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  2 роки тому

      You could use acrylics just make sure to seal it well. They do make outdoor paints as well. Might hold up better for long term exposure to the elements.

    Can i buff my rocks after painted?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  4 роки тому +1

      It could rub off the paint. Maybe once it is sealed you can. Why would you want to buff it? To get a shine? If that is the case you can get a gloss clear coat to add on top to achieve that look :)

    Can you tell me what the difference is between resin and acrylic sealant?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  3 роки тому

      Resin is thicker and you have to mix it before you use it. We have more information about it in this post. rockpainting101.com/resin-painted-rocks/ There are lot of spray on and even brush on sealers you can use as well.

      @RockPainting101  3 роки тому

      You can honestly use just about any medium for rock painting. As long as you seal it before placing outdoors :)

    Any Suggestions, I would live to make a Memorial Rock and leave at grave site. Using a Photograph. Something like decoupage a photo to a rock and sealing it so that it can sit at the grave site?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  2 роки тому

      If it is going to be exposed to elements protecting it will be the hardest part. Maybe Resin to seal? As far as adding a photo to get a really good bond you will want a nice large flat tone. Santorini can be found pretty large.

      Really I just have a bunch of random ones I have purchased over the years. One multi-pack I bought is in our shop that has a lot of good sizes for rock painting - amzn.to/2UNZ6v5

    My mom suggested to use transparent nail polish to keep the painting permanent

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  3 роки тому

      Im not sure if that would be UV protectant, however if you were going to keep them indoors I’m sure this would work well. Might get a little expensive.
