      There are so many different ways it's kind of hard to answer that question. Do you have a theme in mind? Colors, flowers, word rocks?

    Good ideas! The only rock painting I've done so far has been using nail polish that I don't use on my nails anymore. I'm actually very happy with them although adding some of these techniques will be fun. ☮️💞🙏🏼

    I love your videos! I have a question about using your Posca pens on rocks. Do you base coat all rocks with a clear sealer like Mod Podge before using the pens or acrylic paint?

    Hi, there are so many different kinds of spray paint! Which is best? I have purchased a Rust-oleum Satin white for a base coat but now wondering if the acrylic paint won’t adhere to it? Thank you!

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  3 роки тому +2

      A matte paint is best. Some satins will work, but as you stated above it can cause issues. Sometimes paint pens will go on ok.

    I just wash my rocks. I don't really put coats on my rocks. But MAYBE I might try it.

    Thank you so much for these ideas!!! I definitely want to try that last one, the sponge fading/gradient look! And the string idea is really fun! Might try both, thanks again!!!

    I'm not seeing an actual video of how to spray paint a base coat. Is there one you can share?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  Рік тому

      I have not filmed one. I will try to film on next spring… but you can come from different angles with different colors if you want to use more than one color. For white just apply light even coats. If it has primer in it you usually won’t need more than one or two coats. Make sure the paint is matte finish. Not glossy.

    I’m just starting out rock painting and found your channel, now I’m binge watching. My problem is I’m enthusiastic and I end up buy so much stuff! I’d be grateful if you could point me in the right direction for inexpensive pens so I can decide if I like it or not. Unfortunately I live in the uk so the products you recommend might not be available to me 🇬🇧😘

      Are you able to order on Amazon? If you already have acrylic paints and brushes perhaps just an extra fine tip black paint pen for lining would be a good place to start.

    Hi there, I am new to the Rock Painting but can't wait to get started! I was wondering if I should seal my base coat before painting on top?

  • @patElfpat

    I’m a beginner and all of these backgrounds/base coats looked wonderful. I can’t find a tutorial on the one used on many of the mandalas I see. They are often black and they look like the paint is textured. Any ideas?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  3 роки тому +1

      I don't think they would have too much texture only because it might mess up their dots. You may just see the rock texture showing through. They might just be painting black acrylic on their stones first.

    Me over here almost done painting this rock and wondering what a base coat was…..and also wondering why I needed to hurry and do a bunch at once. I’m trying to lower my blood pressure…if I tried to do tons at once I would stress 😂. Slow and steady wins the race ❤

    do the clear primers/base coats make the rocks shiny? They look so pretty after, but different. Thanks so much, excited I found you, excited to get started!

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  Рік тому +2

      You don't want to have a glossy coat down before painting. Your paint won't stick as well. I never seal my rocks until I am finished painting them. You can choose a glossy finish or a matte finish. That depends on the sealer you use.

    How long does it take base coat to dry before being able to paint designs?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  Рік тому

      Good question! It really depends on the paint and the rock. If you are using acrylic paints once it is dry to the touch you can move on with your design. They dry pretty quick or you can speed this up with a blow dryer on cool heat. I do like to let my rocks dry at least overnight before sealing if I can.

    On a base coat pour, do you thin your paint?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  10 місяців тому

      I do! You can get away with adding a little bit of water to thinner paints. Or a pour medium if you need for thicker paints (like floetrol)

    Used Kilz 3 and gave rocks 2 coats of white, now they are still sticky?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  3 роки тому

      With any spray you want to build up the paint. Should use thin layers. If it has a primer built in it should still only need 2 coats at the most. Allow the paint to dry between layers well.

    Im painting rocks into cacti...why do I need a base coat of paint on it? Is it more durable as a result or ?

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  2 роки тому

      You never NEED one :) If your design doesn't need it you don't need it :) Sometimes a white base coat can help the colors pop a bit, but you can do white just under your design too if you want to leave some of the rock natural.

    So do u think i could paint on top of a clear seal coated already on a rock

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  2 роки тому

      If it is a glossy finish you will have a hard time getting the paint to adhere to the rock. You should be painting your rock and then sealing it once it is completely dry.

    This was great! Gave me some new ideas 💡! I usually paint a bunch black and a bunch white for my background. This week I painted a bunch white and a bunch red with spray paint. Although this was easy, some of my paints didn’t mix well with the spray paint and they bubbled a bit. I’m probably going back to my chalk paint. Happy painting!!!

    • @RockPainting101
      @RockPainting101  Рік тому +1

      It has to be a matte finish. The glossy paints to take the paint on top as well.. They do make chalk spray paints too :)

    • @LS-xp4or
      @LS-xp4or 4 роки тому +2

      Yes usually exterior masonry house paint (free from your local dump), enamel acrylic paints work best for outdoor. I use a clear coat spray for shine and weather. Clear coat is about the same as polyurethane but less expensive and much less time consuming. Hope this helps!
